Is there anyone else carrying a sign, like "i am the other way" or even "i am the wrong way"? I think "the third way" is already spoken for..

Measures taken by Japan have been consistent with how the U.S. would handle a similar crisis, he said.

Sorry to hear that, and I wonder if the talk radio shows will be repeating this little soundbite.

and less J "Talents" on the show!

I agree. The style doesn't fit, and not that many of those talents are talented.

I agree the older crowd and most Japanese would love an over the top - Kabuki style get up. But it needs to be artsy and aesthetic otherwise it will probably not translate

I'm rethinking my position on this. If she would pick a traditional enka song, and do it straight, as traditionally as the most traditional folks on the show, it would surprise everyone, and it might fly.

It's not about being PC, it's about having some class, and acting like a world leader. The US statement was fine. It was a message of condolence, whether they called it that or not.

They've already moved the show away from their customer base by moving away from enka and heading toward j-pop. Lady Gaga would be the final nail in the coffin. Nothing against her, but it's totally the wong direction for the show to take.

Farmboy - You don't offer condolences if your Uncle Godfrey killed thousands if not millions of his countrymen. >

Sure i do. The condolences are for my aunt for having had to live with him, or for the pain she feels at his loss despite his misdeeds. Condolences are for the relatives, not for the person who died, who is beyond caring. I see that my view is not popular, but to me, not to offer condolences to someone who is grieving is small- minded and petty.

    CVHuan,

The South Koreans ARE still technically at war with the North Koreans, but even so, many in the South would like to reunite with the North. Many of them have family in the North.

But none of that is my point, really. I think there is a way of acting that is responsible and polite, and the USA should be big enough to act that way. We don't have to agree with the North Korean way of government, nor its actions, to behave properly. Condolences should be offered. The North Koreans certainly know we don't like some of their actions.

Small things lead to bigger things, and if we believe there is hope for world peace without blowing everything and everybody up (Isn't that our message to the North Koreans?), we should be willing to lead others in acting correctly.

    CVHuan,

I don't think that is a good comparison. We are not at war with the North Korean people nor with Kim's family.

Is the person in the picture eating a calorie-restricted diet? Tons of roast beef on a bed of lettuce?

Another problem is huge volume of radioactive waste and debris that will come out of the plant during its dismantling process. Officials said they have not decided what to do with them and that part is not covered by the 40-year roadmap.

Sounds like an 80 year roadmap, then, the way things usually go.

I think it’s justified” not to offer condolences over Kim Jong-Il, Snyder said.

I disagree. You offer condolences to people who will miss him. Offering condolences is what civilized people and countries do.

If your Uncle Godfrey dies, and you never liked your uncle, you still offer condolences to your aunt. It's polite. She might actually miss the old geezer.

Personally, I don't want my friends to know what I'm reading, or if I did, I'd tell them directly. The Facebook connection is just annoying.

What is "soaring" about the yen?

Well, here's a ten year chart and you can see. Hit "invert" to see dollars from a yen perspective.

    P_$$ing into the wind ....

Maybe, but if they hadn't done it, the yen would be 50 to the dollar by now. They're hoping to stall until Europe recovers or the US dollar gets some strength back, neither of which seems likely anytime soon.

My recommendation is for the Japanese to just buy the USA and move there. The first thing they would do is to fix the post office and start having home deliveries for reasonable prices. That would cause online sales to rise for all the stores that they would also own. The US economy, which would no longer be the US economy, would recover, and the dollar, owned by the Japanese, would rise. As a bonus, the Japanese would own Disneyland.

"They live in the inner world of cuteness and immaturity, as if they are refusing to grow into an adult,” he said. “They seem to rebel against the styles of certain age groups imposed by society.”

Yeah, okay, but when they turn forty it's really time to move on.

Don't blame the good people of Nashville for this. They didn't have a problem with the two men. This is all on the pilot.

Well, it's not completely clear. The two men were on board and everything was fine, but then "Shortly after the plane pulled away from the gate, the pilot announced the aircraft was returning to the terminal."

So the question is what happened that made the plane return? My assumption was that there were a bunch of the good people of Nashville complaining, since the pilot would be in the cockpit flying the plane unless somebody said something. I admit that it could be just the pilot's decision as you say, but why would the pilot have started to leave and then turned around?

Now after the plane returned and the pilot refuse these guys entry, THAT was completely the decision of the pilot, but I feel like there is some missing piece of information about the first departure.
