Earlier in the day, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases said in a preliminary report that about 150,000 people are estimated to have become infected with influenza in the week up to last Sunday, considered mostly the new strain of the flu.

    peachy871,

I was looking at the number 150,000,…

If all these numbers about the past week are correct, then Japan has more H1N1 cases than any other country in the world. (http://flutracker.rhizalabs.com/)

    Congratulations!

I foresee Tamiflu parties in the future. The government will sell the flu party kits. There will be small Hello Kitties with masks included. Another marketing sensation to sweep the world.

Yes, there seem to be more and more unfeeling people in the world. It's hard to turn kids like this around, too. I don't know what the answer is after they are this old. I'm sure you can't beat them into being considerate, though. It takes a desire on their…

This virus is a new strain of flu virus and very contagious.

I know it's very contagious, but the number for the cases in the world was 180,000 a couple of weeks ago. It seems more likely that they have an extra zero in this report, and that the number…

It's nice to see people making these kinds of changes. It will take a while to work out the problems, but this is the kind of thing that needs to happen.

150,000 in a week? That seems high...is it correct? From the first case in Japan until the 24th of July, there were just a bit over 5000 cases total, and now we hear a number thirty times as large happened in a week?

There has just been a worldwide recession, and it's probably not over yet, though there are positive signs. Japan will get better when everybody else gets better. Neither party is going to fix this, though I'm sure one party will get blamed and another will take credit for any improvement.

The problem is with leaving babies in hot cars. Where the mother went is irrelevant, and this kind of poor parenting occurs everywhere. It doesn't take long for a baby left in a hot car to die, whether the parent is shopping for groceries, playing pachinko, or doing charity work.

I can't believe so many parents are clueless about the danger...amazing. I'm sure the mom is feeling awful about this, but it's hard to be sympathetic.
