This kind of law is not good for Japan. It puts more restriction in a society that already lacks freedom.

Japan will never be a creative country if this kind of restriction keep being applied.

At the moment, Japan doesnt need creativity, because it is easy to copy everything from its closest ally, the USA, or from the European.

But The question is... is this kind of japanese behaviour sustainable? Is it really a progress?

I like Noda! He is a good politician. I hope he and his cabinet will modernize politics in Japan.

They way I see it Japan has an outdated political system that need to be changed if Japan wants to keep progressing.

I liked it, very clear words from Noda. Now everybody know what the japanese think about these islands and nobody have to imagine/guess/suppose/misunderstand it anymore.

It's good to hear Panetta's words. That's the kind of foreign policy that Asia misses.

I was worried about japanese government not giving any pronnunciation about the case.

It was like Japan was waiting for China to come and start a war. This is defenitely not good foreign policy.

Japan have to learn a lot about politics.

chucky, America is bound to support Japan by treaty. If they do not honor this treaty other countries will see their treaties with the USA as worthless. So if China attacks then they will be bound to help Japan resist invasion.

America will support any country being attacked, without the need of any treaty.

And for God's sake, this conflict is not good for both Japan and China. Total trade between the two countries in 2011 was $345 billion.

Japanese foreign policy must positionate itself around the conflict trying to calm down things.

This silence from J-government is not good and may be very imature. I hope the silence is because J-government has complete control of the situation, and not the opposite.

I was reading China's point of view in chinese newspaper (in english) and I have to say chinese media and politicians are doing a very good Job.

I don't know who is right or who is wrong anymore, but the quality of chinese foreign policy is much much better than the japanese.

tokyo-star, my point of view and i'm sure also the rest of the world thinks like this, is that "silent gives consent".

One can be totally right, but if he himself keeps silent, he will be agreeing.

I'm a japanese descendant and since the beginning I was at Japan's side.

But now I thing China got a really strong point. They claim the islands are China's, from ancient times.

At the same time, I don't see any japanese reaction to this. Where is Noda? While China makes it clear what are its position, Japan doesn't positionate itself. And it is very bad.

I think the current situation is very dangerous.

Look at what China and Russia said in the beggining of current year:

China: "China Will Not Hesitate To Protect Iran Even With A Third World War"

Russia: "Should Anything Happen to Iran … This Will Be a Direct Threat to Our National Security"

I feel this crisis is escalating.

What Japan needs now is to ensure that the chinese people living in Japan are well threated and respected, build a plan for self defense and make it clear that Japan will cooperate with China so everything ends well.

China is going totally nuts. They yet didnt forget what happened in WW2 and it does not make sense because today Japan is a big country and majority of its people are very very sane.

Japanese people have to observe it wisely and try to understand what is really happening, because everything, all this misunderstanding could've be avoided.

In the past Japan was wrong and the US helped the country opening its eyes to the truth. Now, maybe, Japan needs to help China.

Japan will be glorious when the country becomes self-sufficient, a real democracy, a free country, with freedom of speech, when people get together to build a country ruled by the people.

In the current Japan, people get together to respect laws and rules that are questionable.

What Japan really needs is to look forward and adapt the country to the current and future situation.

A lightning never strikes twice in the same place. Glorious Japan also may not work as it worked in the past.

When I play Civilization and create a new game, I always wish the game map generator doesn't put my nation near agressive countries. If it happens, I just start a new game.

Being near agressive countries makes it impossible to develop culture, technology, science and religion in the pace required by the game. So you loose it because the other countries will develop faster. The reason is that while you are fighting/defending with your neighbour, the other countries are focused and working to get bigger.

It is the same case now. I don't know if it is really happening. But if Japan and China are really fighting for these islands, I can assure, neither will benefit from it.

When at war or in a state of fight you always loose focus on the important matters. You also spend lots of money on the military that could be used to invest in education, entertainment, sports, art, culture...

Bad for Japan, it is real life and not possible to start a new game....

I was reading the comments from everybody and I got very surprised. Almost everyone thinks the system needs to be more strict and there need to be more laws, punishment, vigilance, oppression....

To me Japan needs more freedom, less laws, less rules, more education, more good culture and things like happiness and good sense.

People should conversate more and should understand each other more. People should learn how to solve their own problems. Life is an art and everyone must learn how to deal with it. If you are getting bullied, well go there and make it stop. You have voice and education right? Human being is an incredible machine capable of changing the natural course of things. Every bullied children, if they had education, they would be able to stop it. The problem is that japanese are too submissive and they accept everything. They relly on all kind of laws to solve problems.

My view is that the parents should stop working like crazy and start educating their children. Teachers should only transfer knowledge. Education comes from parents. Teachers duty should stop in the knowledge level.

Strict laws, rules and regulations are no good. It is required only in rebellious societies. Educated societies tends to be more free.

Pardon me, but the way I think it is that this problem is not a governments problem, neither a teachers problem. This problem is from the japanese culture and education that needs more sophistication. Japanese society appears to be sick.

I am a japanese descendant living in the western, I lived in Japan 3 years and a half some time ago, and my heart is filled with sadness when I read this kind of news.

Japanese society have to teach its citizens how to protect against bullying. That's the best way to solutionate this problem. In other words, all these bullying is being caused by lack of education from who is doing and/or from who is receiving the bullying.

Bullying is wrong, but it doesn't happen if any of the person involved is well educated.

My way of seeing it is that the ordinary japanese is too innocent and japanese society values and beliefs are too primitive.

Now is the right time to take advantage on these three countries. While China, Korea and Japan is playing like kindergarden, the USA should take advantage selling the things that the countries will not buy from each other anymore.

Common guys, nobody gain anything fighting like this. Asian nations should grow up.

Im a graduate of the University of Tokyo, and they hired me to count banknotes? he asked incredulously. His resignation letter was submitted within a month of his joining. During training, he was annoyed by the simplistic and repetitive tasks, and felt his superior was a buffoon. Finally, while being taught how to count banknotes, he blew up.

For me both are wrong. A graduate of University of Tokyo should have never been hired to count banknotes... And the guy also could have been more patient.

    Hello A+b/a=a/b.

Well, difficult to understand number #6? I help you...

Just think in Japan. Every day you read the news you see people getting murdered by.... knifes. Does Japan need to restrict the use of knifes?

My opinion (that can be wrong) is that you can use the same logic to answer for guns.

The US will never restrict the use of guns for countless reasons.

    1) You only have to restrict something when there is lack of education and good sense. And it is not the case yet for the US.

    2) It is considered more civilized the country with citizens that can live with guns than a society that restrict it. No one never knows what could be of Japan, for example, if you make it free. People should start shooting each other in every corner or a new world war can begin.

    3) I won't want to be in the US if I want to use a gun to make a crime. Because there, I will expect greater resistence from everyone.

    4) Restricting it only takes out the rights of honest citizens. Criminals will use illegal guns.

    5) A country will never be sovereign, will never have supreme authority, if its citizens don't know how to use a gun. If the US restricts it, another country will not. And this country will be sovereign. And imagine if this country is a evil one? It already happened in the past (ex.: German and Japan in WWII).

    6) If you think on restriction. Why don't restrict the use of knifes, cars, planes? All these things can kill. Even going out of home put your life at risk. So, why to restrict the use of guns?

    7) It is very ingenuous of a country to restrict the use of a thing that can either protect or give the opportunity to fight for your rights in case of necessity. This could make this country an easy target for domination.

    8) There is lot of important researches involved with guns and with the military. You could never develop a country without this researches.

There are lots of reasons. Much more than what was listed.
