As if anybody would take Nigel serious...lol. Comparing Merkel to Hitler however is going too far.
Britain's plans to eradicate its budget deficit by 2015 is "utopian". The situation on the island is more dramatic than in parts of the continent. The UK is the most disruptive of the countries in the EU. A legacy of our empire mentality and grandeur posturing, backward and old-fashioned - 'island thinking'.
Unfortunately the British public has been so brainwashed with anti european propaganda since the seventies ,and if you negatively continually lay the blame for all ill's on the EU , this is the result !
Of course another huge problem is that the majority of Islanders cannot speak any other languages so the British public only consume what the English speaking media vomits at them !
Once you can speak a little German, French, Italian , Spanish ,Dutch and read their newspapers a completely different picture appears !

WilliB: I don't think you really understand how powerful MA can be. Agree with It'sMe on everything there. I did karate for years but that was just for the masses. The real techniques for attacking are kept secret. I was fortunate to learn them from an ex-special force guy and you can master those very quickly without even knowing any MA.

Nicky, that was really funny. I must say that I love reading these funny, strange translations too on products. Try walking into a 'Hot Bakery'. Without those, life would be so boring here. I constantly find something that makes me laugh here. Japan is such a great comedy.

That abyss sounds great, I love diving around them too and seeing the blue emptiness. Never tried it in a lake though, would love to do that with you. I also love those 5 ponds around lake Towada and the amzing variety of mushrooms you can find there. Japan is really blessed with great nature and you can have it all by yourself mostly. Thanks God for shopping malls. It takes me 1 minute to go to the forest and 15 to the beach.

ElBuda, they are afraid of being on the street with their kids living in poor conditions. I know a woman like that, husband is a pilot. He is hitting her badly, she had a few rips broken not so long ago. Now she has another illness but is afraid of telling him. I told her many times to just leave but she said she doesn't want to go through the shame and she wants to give her kids a good life (?) which means food on the table and a nice place to live. She begged me once to teach her English secretly because he called her baka all the time when they were in Hawaii and she felt very ignorant. Not sure either what these hot lines can do except for listening to someone's pain which may be a lot at times when you have nobody. I always thought hospitals would report DV but it seesms they don't. I don't know how this works, does anybody? The only thing they did when she was pregnant and had bruises all over her, was to leave her in hospital for 2 months. I wonder what they told her husband really.Poor thing, I wished I could be of more help but he got transferred to Osaka unfortunately where she knows absolutely nobody.

lucabrasi: Bhutan is also a multi-party democracy and a constitutional monarchy. Since when is Japan no constitutional monarchy then?
Article 23 defines the Constitutional requirements for elections in Bhutan. The Constitution calls for universal suffrage by secret ballot of all citizens over age 18 who have been registered in the civil registry of their constituency for at least one year and not "otherwise disqualified from voting under any law in force in Bhutan." In order to vote, Bhutanese citizens must furnish their Citizenship Card.

Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy, just like Japan. You must find it hard living here too.
Ever heard of Gross National Happiness? We have been misguided in dismissing what people say about how happy they are and simply assuming that if they are consuming more apples and buying more cars they are better off. Happiness to me is satisfaction with personal relationships, employment, and meaning and purpose in life. Bhutan values sustainable development, cultural integrity, ecosystem conservation, and good governance.
If technology makes you so happy, fine with me. I have lived on and of without it and I have to say I am more happy without all this modern equipment.
I spent my entire childhood in Spain during the 60's and 70's and believe me I had a very happy childhood. Also, many of my friends coming from Ex-Communist countries, told me that they were way happier in those days than nowadays. I can only take their word for it since I never lived that life.
Maybe democracy works for you but don't insult people who believe in other systems.

This is an official state visit and is meant to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Japanese-Bhutan diplomatic ties.
State visits involve some or all the following components:
A welcoming ceremony consisting of a review of military honor guards, parades, and the playing of national anthems by a military band. A 21-gun salute fired for foreign heads of state and a 19-gun salute fired for foreign heads of government. An exchange of gifts between the foreign head of state and the head of state from the nation hosting the state visit. State dinners, either white tie or black tie, hosted by a head of state, with the foreign head of state being the guest of honor. A visit to a national legislature, often with a formal address by the foreign head of state being delivered to the legislative bodies assembled. High-profile visits by foreign heads of state to national landmarks such as laying a wreath at a military shrine or cemetery. Cultural events celebrating links between the two nations, which are held in conjunction with a state visit.

It is all about tradition. A long time ago when Defense Ministers were called War Ministers, it would have been unthinkable not to attend. It doesn't matter to me whether someone is a king or not and it is not about what he's done since being in Japan (that is basically a mere official state visit) but what he has done for his country as this particular country's Head of State. There are many kings and queens in this world but how many are doing the things he is doing? Now then, he has achieved a lot coming here because everybody is talking about him and he is the living proof of what a young leader is capable of doing. He has become an inspiration to Japan with that.

Well, he got my respect. Respect is something you earn from your deeds. This king truly is fulfilling his role. He has done many reforms in Bhutan. The King has also been giving away land to landless farmers around the country and strives for greater standards in education, business, civil service and the need for people of a small country to work harder than those of others. He also is very close to his people and gives out hope. No wonder Bhutan is such a happy country. Do you see any other leaders going out of their way like he does?
I truly hope travelling within his country will be eased soon as I really want to go there.
I hope to read more articles about his visit here.

For causing such an insult, he should be stepping down. The King studied in the US and in England, that's why his speech was so good. I hope he won't be taking this incident to heart and enjoy his rest of his trip here without the strict protocol.

If the Euro is at the end, then the Dollar experiment must be??? The inflation in the Euro-Zone from June 2010 to 2011 was 2.7% compare that to the 3.6% of the Dollar. The Euro is stabler than the Dollar. Nobody seems to talk about Germany's debt which at 81.7% is much higher than that of the 69.6% of Spain.

Nessie, send me a pic then I will decide if I marry you...Actually, last summer I went snorkelling in the lake because there was a sign there that said it was forbidden to swim there. When the ojiiisan came to tell me that I wasn't allowed to swim there, I told him that I wasn't swimming but snorkelling. He didn't know what to say and just went away.
I think people are afraid of Nessie monsters and many can't swim, I have rescued many over the years.
Rockclimbing is also cheap, the rope is a bit expensive but I have been using mine for many years.
Yes ski season is starting and with that overpriced ski lifts etc. I bought myself some cross country skies, last year's model with binding, shoes and stocks for a mere Yen 2,000 - yes, you heard right, I couldn't believe that price either, brand new and from a major sports shop. Now me and him, we make our own course through the forest - we can actually go there on our skies directly from the house - and we take some picnic too.

No, but honestly Starbucks...I can already see all those cute Japanese girls going to Hawaii for Xmas and saying to everybody 'Let's Merry' which will be completely misunderstood by the local blokes and the crime rate, which is already at 27.5%, will be skyrocketing this season. Please stop that campaign for the safety of everybody.
