What a heartbreaking story! I am so glad that girl found her family back and the one that adopted her should go to jail.

The monk came all the way from Mt Koya, no wonder he walks slowly, he must be so tired from this long pilgrimage.

Arthur, I love Western Russia and its great food. Please send us a Russian baker over here. Hokkaido is Siberia anyway, they just named it Japan for some reason.

Thanks Elbuda. Yes the snow was no laughing matter. I had to take out my Antarctica boots to shovel the snow.

The good thing is that it became much warmer, from -28C to -2C. Good thing I am still well stocked up with ouzo. Merry Christmas to you too and everybody on JT.

And all the other times that strandings had no connection to seismic activity, many more than the former

Don't spoil all our well researched theories now....

On August 20 2010, one month before the 7.0 Mag hit Christ Church 58 Pilot whales stranded in northern NZ

Then on the weekend before the 6.3 Mag hit NZ February 22 there were more than 100 Whales stranded in the south of NZ.

The only problem with these theories is the timespan.

About 50 whales (melon headed) were stranded in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture on March 6, 2011. Five days later, the magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck Japan. This is not without precedent. Maybe the whales can sense something humans can't.

Those whales got stranded on November 16th. Here is ElBuda's comment: This mass suicide of whales happens every time before a major earthquake!! The Kiwis better get ready for another major quake!!

Bonding - I think it is a good choice too. After the tsunami, I was really happy to have JT. We all posted many comments and we all cared about each other a lot more. I remember that I got really worried not reading cleo's posts for a while. I think she didn't have electricity for a while. It might have been a one-sided bond but it was there, in my heart, the same way I felt about the experiences of many people on JT or in Tohoku. At that time, JT posted a photo of a little girl handing out food in a shelter with the most beautiful smile, it would be the perfect picture to go with kizuna. Anyway, let's hope for a better 2012 and Merry Christmas to all JT posters.

Ironically, the term "genocide" did not even exist before 1944. It is a very specific term, referring to violent crimes committed against groups with the intent to destroy the existence of the group. Human rights, as laid out in the U.S. Bill of Rights or the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, concern the rights of individuals. In other words, Turkey cannot be responsible for something which did not even exist in 1915.

Sure, that genocide was horrible. Nobody denies that. The problem here is that FRANCE wants to put sanctions on Turkey for a crime it committed itself and never acknowledged it either.

The Algerian Genocide refers to the deliberate and systematic destruction of the Algerian Muslim Arab population of the French Algeria in 1945 and during the Algerian War (1954-1962) by French Army. It was implemented through massacres, mass murder and torture. The total number of resulting deaths is generally held to have been between 350,000 to 1,5 million.

Algeria called on France to apologise in 2005 for crimes committed during the colonial era. Bouteflika also urged Paris to admit its part in the massacres of 45,000 Algerians who took to the streets to demand independence as Europe celebrated victory over Nazi Germany in 1945. French authorities then responded by playing down the comments, urging "mutual respect".

I think France has no right to put those sanctions on Turkey. Maybe Turkey should also put sanctions on France for the Algerian genocide. Just leave the past in the past and get on in the present. I am really getting tired with this problem.

NK's in Japan follow orders not to intergrate withthe local culture

Gurukun: Never heard about that from them personally, it might just be fabricated propaganda. And they all went to NK school. Do you have any proof of this?

Has anybody noticed that although we see so many people crying, I haven't seen one real tear yet except from his son and the mistery woman standing behind him who are showing watery eyes.

even if I did talk with them, you think they would give true answers or hold an honest conversation?

I can't speak for all of them but I do have several friends from NK and we do have honest conversations. I guess after 20 years I would know whether someone is honest or not. It is only natural that one loves his mother country, people tend to look at the good things in general. I also have many NK friends that got displaced by Stalin to central Russia. They have the same feelings than the ones here, they had it much harder there than the ones who came here. 100% integration into a country is not feasable, people like to protect their roots and it is completely understandable. Why do foreigners here send their kids to Tokyo International school? Why do they talk to them in 2 languages? Why do they keep their culture alive? Why is it ok for those foreigners to do it but not for NKs? We are foreigners here and so are they. Japan is not a colony from Britain, so immigration and integration are a completely different problem and it is very natural that people form groups just as they do when immigrating to non-British colony countries.

Gurukun, Maybe you should do an effort and speak to some of the NKs here. You would get a very different attitude.

Grieving is done in silence worldwide, why can't that be respected?
