I guess when people live in foreign country, they would be happy when they hear their motther tongue. That's my friend who lives in Italy said.

Thank you for the reply FightingViking,
Right we should be very careful when speaking Japanese in a foreign country.

Let's see, if I lived in English speaking country and talked to local in excellent English and they talked to me in very bad Japanese, I would feel he/she was learning Japanese and wanted to practice. I wouldn't be offend but I might ask him/her to please say in English if I didn't understand.

Usually Japanese workers are diligent and careful so they check something to avoid mistakes. Then why they are lenient to this matter?
My friend Michiko (Japanese) pointed out that it is triggered by the direct translation from Japanese to English. I agree with her but still we get lazy not even checking the spelling. So we made stupid mistakes like "Lamb-raisin flavored ice-cream" "flesh juice".
Here are some examples of silly English signs. Enjoy!

I'm a JTE at an elementary school. So I'm curious to know your opinions. At elementary schools, we don't prioritize grammar but we teach speaking and listening only no writing and reading. I think we should teach all 4 skills together. Some students want to learn reading and writing but under curriculum, we are not supposed to teach those. I think it's the right time when they want to learn something. I want to know the effective way to teach English as a foreign language.

I was surprised to see unsympathetic comments towards this woman. We may not get used to the lay judge system but I feel sorry for this woman.

I remember watching a similar survey was conducted in Tantei Knight Scoop. Where should we draw the line between Onecyan and Obacyan and asked several boys whether they thought these women were Onecyan or Obacyan. It seems that we can't draw the line merely by their ages but their appearances.

Summers in Japan is becoming intorelable for me who was born in Showa era. When I was a child, it was hot in summer but it's not high as or above our body temperatures. I often suffer from headaches and nausia during summer.

I feel pity for kids and teachers. They need at least 2 days off. They are too busy. They don't have enough free time even in current system. They shouldn't make them more busier.

I understand she needed to do something to prevent spreading germs but what she did was not acceptable. She should have asked if other students had masks or forbid student to serve the food on that day.

Yes, I hitted my sons several times. I couldn't control my feeling. I knew I shouldn't do that and I felt terrible after I did that. But at those days, no one understood how frustrating raising unruly kids. I was on the verge of becoming neurotic.

The thing that I don't want anyone to see when something happen to me is my diary. So I write it in English, almost illegible letters so that my husband would not find out what I feel about him.

Actually, my husband works at post office. Yes, the story of Mr. Mori is true. My hubby is a regular worker and his quota is 8000 post cards. No matter how we struggle to sell our relatives, friends, neighbors and my co-workers to ask to buy them, he can’t meet his quota. So he ended up buy some of them by himself to meet his quota. And not only Nengajyo, employees have to sell Kamomail(mid-summer greeting cards), various kinds of goods all year round or if he/she can’t do that they have to buy themselves. We just had 3rd box of mandarin oranges this month. If post office expects employees to sell or buy so many unwanted products, they should raise their salaries. Apparently, these cost to cover the quota is a huge burden for us. We have to send our son to a private college.
