Have to admit I enjoy the Rove bashing here, but also feel a little sorry for the little guy. Whatever you think of him, he is a true believer in American "conservatism" (whatever that is), but now he has got himself done over by the red state cheerleader crowd (and in Delaware!!!). Just when he thought he was going up for the slam dunk against Team Obama (and yes I know he is now just a pundit, yeah right), he gets this O'Donnell woman screwing things up. And he is in between a rock and a hard place here. He can't say why he is so ticked off, but he can't not be seen to be ticked off.

In other words, he has seen The Producers. He knows how much money there is to be made and siphoned off in a sure-to-lose but populist political campaign. But he can't come out and say that is what happened because it would damage his party if people realized the amount of fraud going on. He got out-sleazed by a woman with a 6000 dollar a year income and her "backers".

Although I am sure that 6000 dollar income report was just because of a radical left wing bias in the media, and that she is really an independently wealthy witch.

no one's got a free pass in this day and age with the media

Well put Smith. But claiming media bias against yourself or in favor of your opponent is one the oldest public relations tricks in the book and effective, so it won't be stopping anytime soon.

And that is one badly written opening sentence by AP. Some weekend intern doing the editing? At least I hope a 40 something woman wasn't still in high school a decade ago!

I see the predictable comment here about "Keynesian" economics. There is no Keynesian economics happening in the USA, just a lot of nonsense from people who have no idea what he wrote and said. If he were alive today he would think what a bunch of idiots Americans are for doing what they have done the last 30 years.

Also, a corporation has no existence without government permission to exist. It is a creation of government and the legal system, to say that it has a right to exist on the same level as the people who gave it that right is insane.

And about "the failure of Obamas Porkulus Maximus bill". Guess they don't teach the concept of negative numbers in the USA anymore. Government spending is there because that is what keeps the money from disappearing and going to money heaven, as that scumbag Icelandic banker put it. It is not "Keysianism", it is "saving rich guys buttism". At it will continue. Because it is in the interest of the Federal Reserve for it to continue. And the Treasury Department, and whichever party is in power, and Goldman Sachs, and JP Morgan, and every bank, hedge fund, and private equity fund in America. They will let Rand Paul and Palin and the Tea Party ramble on about it as that is good for giving the impression that America is a democracy, and keeping various wings of the Republican party happy and excited. But if any of those politicians ever gets close enough to power to make spending reduction and a balanced budget a reality, they will be dealt with, and it will be nasty and quick. Guaranteed.

In contrast, the Supreme Court ruling “protects the First Amendment rights of organizations across the political spectrum

That Supreme Court ruling has to be one of the biggest loads of #$#%$ in decades. Corporations exist only because they are given special legal protection by government to exist. They are a creation of government, and as such have no basis for attempting to turn around and influence it. If the corporation's owners, or more likely management want to influence government then they had that right as private citizens already. Also, if corporations have the same rights as people, then why don't people get the same rights as corporations. I'm sure lots of people would like to enjoy the benefits of claiming to be "domiciled" In the Grand Caymens or some other island paradise tax shelter. But no surprise to see the ideological fools at the Chamber of Commerce take that position.

And somebody should tell Mr. Josten and all the other deficit "hawks" to chill it a little. While it would be nice to live in a perfect world where governments balance their budgets it ain't going to happen in this one. Balanced budgets are things for politician to talk about, not to do anything about. Reality is a balanced budget would smash the US economy and send it into a deflationary spiral. Lots of powerful folks in the US know that very clearly. If the Hawks keep acting like they are serious, somebody may be given a little talking to, and if that fails they might have a little "accident" or a little scandal like Elliot Spitzer had.

Actually I don't think Fox News brainwashes people, I think they are just filling a market niche that they identified. I just chose Uncle Rupert because he is an easy target, I admit to that. But what Fox News does is the same as what all corporate media does, influence the way the issues are framed to suit the corporate interests, and if they are really good at it, send people off on wild goose chases about things that are of no importance.

Fact is that the only issue that matters is a verbotten topic in the corporate media, but everywhere on the internet. Ponzi America is dead. The moronic idea that started under Nixon, was the basis of Reaganomics, and was copied around the world - that economies can grow forever on the basis of an infinitely expanding supply of credit, and by definition expansion of the money supply, was surprise surprise a fraud. Guess what, they can't. Now things have gone into reverse and somebody's money has to disappear. Will it be the fake Ponzi rich, who got that way by having their noses in the credit trough and their mouths on the credit teat the last 40 years, or will it be the clueless masses who spent the last 40 years foolishly getting up in the morning and going to work.

Which side do you think Rupert and all the corporate media is on? Why do you think they work so hard to promote the idea that the issues are ideological and it matters which party is in power? Because they want the clueless masses to stay clueless. The USA and other countries have a simple choice. Return to fundamental democratic and capitalist principles (ie. banks that lose all their money go out of business) deflate the bubble and hit restart, letting the fake, Ponzi rich take the hit. Or let the "rich" keep control and power, in the end sinking the ship and taking everybody else down with them, either drip, drip, drip Japanese style, or in a sudden collapse.

Both the Republicans and Democrats chose option B. Murdoch chose B. They are all fully paid members of the fake Ponzi rich class. All of them are just trying to protect their interests and their money. Just don't expect them to tell you that.

Basically an argument here over whether orangutans or chimpanzees make better house guests. Pretty clear that the Republicans would trash the house really quickly, while the Democrats would take their time and trash it slowly.

But both parties run on a see no evil, hear no evil, say no evil platform. There is only one issue in America that matters, and that is the same one as in all industrial countries, and no politician has the answers, most of them don't even understand the question yet and the few that do pretend they don't because they don' want to freak everybody out. Uncle Rupert is certainly not going to let anybody talk about it on his comedy channel, and that right wing corporatist front man in the White House isn't going to either (that would be "radical left-wing socialist" to those who speak American). A quick skim of the comments here show that except for maybe one poster, nobody understands what the issue is either or even that it exists.

Maybe it really would be better to vote in the Tea Party and then Palin in '12 and get it over with quickly.

    But that never happens here

Not 100% the case. Akiko Wada is open about her Korean background. Don't know of other examples though.

Your support for mercantilism, brute imperialism and centrally planned economies has been noted though.

Your outstanding selective reading skills and ability to make 2 plus 2 not equal 4 has been noted. Boarding boats illegally and throwing 342 chest of tea is an act of vandalism, I make no judgment as to whether it was justified or not.

And the motivation is exactly the same. They didn't want to pay the taxes, and believed their interests were not being represented by the political power structure. Exactly the same thing.

Sorry Molenir, but I really don't get at all how and why any comment that someone is a few bricks short becomes a sign, in the internet world, that the person making the comment is somehow "threatened" or making "pejorative" comments about said nutjob.

I am a middle age geezer with years and years of life experience. When I see someone who is a loon, crazy, a space cadet, etc., I am able to recognize that they are such a person based on that experience, and Christine O'Donnell is such a person. Has nothing to do with politics or an attempt to attack the person. I make the call because I have the ability to make the call, and no doubt Klein2 is the same.

If you want to pretend that you don't have that ability because that suits your political agenda, then that is your business. Just stop pretending that other people have an agenda when all they are doing is making an obvious, no-brainer, slam dunk statement.

Amusing how nobody ever mentions that the original Boston Tea Party was an act of vandalism by an out of control mob. Whether it was justified or not is not important, that is what it was.

Now that the Stalinist purges have started with people even attacking Karl Rove, maybe the puppeteers who dreamed this thing up are starting to notice the similarities.

I cannot let my nation be insulted

Then stop being an idiot. They have been around for hundreds of years, and the idea that gypsys have suddenly become some kind of urgent problem that must be addressed (with big publicity) is obviously a political show to create a scapegoat for the real problems that Nicky doesn't have the guts to deal with.

A suicidal nomination of an unelectable space cadet. Great stuff.

I'd say Major Nelson and Major Healy (aka John and Mitch) and their friends have less than two months to get their genie back in the bottle. And then two more years trying to keep it there. The best laid plans of mice and men....

These new capital reserve requirements are still less than the actual amount of capital reserves held by Lehman Brothers and other banks when they went under. So not much of a solution.

they may dampen the recovery by forcing them to reduce the lending that fuels economic growth.

I have read that seventy percent of all bank lending in the USA and UK has been for real estate. If true, it means that most bank lending has zero to do with fueling economic growth, it is just bubble creation. Bankers get rich for giving people money to buy and sell houses and property to and from each other. Nice work if you can get it.

I think that is just an Australia related inside joke, not referring to Americans or any left wing/right wing attitudes. I got it, and look forward to angry posts from sensitive Queenslanders.

It makes no difference if the Tea Party is spontaneous or if there are fat cat puppets pulling the strings. It also makes no difference what people's motivation is for joining the movement, whether they are legitimately concerned citizens or angry, white crackpots. What matters is that they mistake the symptoms for the disease. They see the government is too big and say "hey, the government is too big". They see their taxes and say "hey my taxes are too high". And they never ask WHY??? They think the solution to excessive government is to vote for the same party that brought them the excessive government in the first place. How do you think that is going to work out?

The disease is simple - the ending of the gold standard and the deregulation of the banking system enabled the creation of a banking and corporate class (not only in the USA) that used their wealth to gain power and control over the system. A huge government/banking/corporate complex. A plutocracy. A Corpocracy. A Kleptocracy. An Oligarchy. Whatever. Everything that happens is because it suits their interests.

You have big, out of control, excessive government because it is in the banks' and corporations interests to have one. You have wars because it is in their interests. You have the right-left, red state vs. blue state divide because it is their interests. Everything. Especially promoting the idea that by changing political parties (AKA the hired help) things will change.

So even if you buy into the idea that the Tea Party is a legitimate movement that is what they are up against. They have no hope. And if you don't believe it is legitimate, they exist because it suits the money elite's interests for them to.

A lot of confused people out there. They think government has grown too large and spends too much. Obviously in a country where 30,000 people are paid to listen to phone calls looking for terrorists they are right. But if they don't like it why did they and their parents spend the last 30 years voting for it?

And the American dream is dieing, so that is a reason to cut taxes? Perhaps they should have a look at tax rates back in the Eisenhower / Nixon America of their fantasies.

America is broke (actually a country that issues its own currency can never go broke but the bankers will not tell you that) because of the deregulation of the banking industry, and the misallocated "investment" (including wars) and the massive opportunities for control fraud that resulted from that. The problem is not the "government", the problem is that the government, the banks, corporate America, and the media are all the same thing, and they are sucking the country dry. People who ignore that fact and stand there shouting about government, taxes, and the "social fabric" deserve what they have coming.

Who said anything about "forcing" companies to go green? The point is to change to a productive economy from one based on consumption and credit. He just said that the production should be based on green development.

Good advice for any country to take. Economic "growth" based on the fraudulent and criminal expansion of credit and the money supply (ie. the US / rich world economic policy since 1980) is what is unsustainable. The countries that understand that will come out ok in the end, the ones who try to deny reality will just crash and stay crashed.

Should the Taliban be there? Should the Taliban be allowed to terrorize that nation?

"In mid-May, 2001, Secretary of State Colin Powell announced a $43 million grant to Afghanistan...there was little doubt that the new stipend was a reward for Kabul's anti-drug efforts." http://www.cato.org/pubdisplay.php?pubid=3556

The Taliban had American funding and support prior to 9/11. Nobody cared then if they were terrorizing the nation. I don't see any logical connection as to why the Al-Quada attacks should make people start caring and start claiming deep concern for the people of Afghanistan now.

Just trying to justify a failed policy and a lost war.
