Unless I missed something in the article, there is nothing here about the people and companies that hire illegals. I have no problem with the general public being upset about the situation, but it looks like somebody is trying to have their cake and eat it too. Try and look like you are doing something, but don't tick off the people making a buck off the situation.

A lot going on here. Blair meets with Gadaffi, big contracts are signed, guy with terminal cancer doesn't die, Blair and Gadaffi continue meeting.
Interesting way to put it. The question is really was Scotland's decision influenced by the British government, working on behalf of BP and also for the British government's own objectives. If Cameron is saying BP didn't directly pressure Scotland he is probably technically telling the truth. There is also the question of who personally profited.
If Scotland refuses to play the scapegoat role, this stuff could really blow up in somebody's face.

I'm with "thepro" here. Mikitani is not talking about his staff having proficiency in English, he is talking about running the company in English. Completely different thing, where you need communication to be clear and things done quickly. All as part of what looks like an extremely ambitious plan for world-wide expansion, I won't be surprised to see them in serious financial trouble a few years down the line.
Now maybe this is just a PR exercise to brand them as an "international" company, and they aren't really that serious. But they sound like they are. I just don't buy the idea that just because you can order your lunch in a second language, that means you can operate an international corporation in a second language. And I am very suspicious of anybody who thinks having menus in English is something to publicize. So you took the low hanging fruit, so what, now it gets much harder.

From what I have been told, the "ore ore" scammers don't operate in Osaka, as Kansai people are more willing to confront the caller. The problem is mainly in the Kanto area, with Nerima ward being the worst for some reason. People are hesitant to cause any offense by being assertive, and so for cultural reasons they are easy marks.
True or not, that is what Osaka people claim.

Greece did not receive any aid package. The French and German banks that lent money to Greece received the massive aid package.
Greece is still on the hook, just to a different lender.

Well golly gee, why is that? Because Obama, like almost every other American politician, represents and is put in power by the Banking and Corporate welfare state that is the cause of the fiscal insanity in the first place. You really think he is allowed to make "difficult choices"? The last president who tried to was Carter and look what happened to him. The guy still has the attack dogs coming after him 30 years later.
So get ready for "Austerity", America. All you parents paying for your kids college education, all you unemployed, all you evil public sector workers. Somebody has to sacrifice to keep the welfare checks rolling in. On the other hand, you could try waking up.

Real lack of class by van Marwijk at the end taking off his medal, and Van Bommell and De Jong were jokes, especially when van Bommell kicked the ball out of play. Both should have been red carded, Vb for the stomp on Iniesta and De Jong for the kick to the chest. And Sneijder rolling around after fouling the Spanish player and pretending to be injured was a bit much too.
Nothing against Holland, but next time they should have a plan B in case they luck out and make it to the late rounds. Kicking people only gets you so far.

The corner / goal kick call was a bad miss, but Holland can't really complain about the refereeing as they were lucky to not be down to 9 or 10 men even before extra time. How exactly does Van Bommel stay on the field game after game anyways?
Myself, I didn't think it was such a boring game as many people are saying, but then I missed the first 35 minutes. The second half and extra time were at least interesting, miles better than the Italy-Brazil game in '94. But if people think it was boring they can blame Brazil and Dunga for messing up in the quarter-final and imploding. Holland came close to winning the game, but between that game and their overall play all tournament, they shouldn't really have been in the final in the first place.

The name change requirement is not "nothing". For the zainichi Koreans I have known, that was their main reason for not changing to Japanese citizenship. If people are willing to do it fair enough, but I wouldn't change my name and have no problem seeing why they won't either.

So allowing a Japanese woman to keep her maiden name after marriage to a Japanese man would wreck family traditions, but allowing a Japanese woman to keep her maiden name after marrying a foreigner does not? What exactly are they saying here? Those families don't matter, or that by marrying a foreigner she has already wrecked things? Or am I the only person who cares about trivial things like logical consistency? And if so, what am I doing in Japan?
And allowing a zainichi Korean to vote would weaken national security, but if you allow the zainichi to assume a Japanese name and identity and hide his Korean ethnicity, he can then vote without that weakening national security? Wow!

Have to give Okada credit for pulling the trigger and making the right changes when it was clear things weren't working. Unlike the much more highly paid and respected managers of Italy, France, and England who didn't.
Agree that Tulio and Nakazawa were excellent, BBC website live commentary last night said "this dude is seriously hard" about Tulio after he came back after getting wiped out by Kawashima. Both of them earned a chance to play in Europe if they are interested. Nobody is usually going to get too excited about signing a Japanese defender, but they were for sure noticed by a lot of people.

CEO's salaries have grown for one reason only - the growth over the last 50 years of institutional investment, and the fact that all corporations are owned by institutions and not wealthy individuals as before. These institutions don't give a damn what happens at the company as long as the stock price goes up and they can sell at a profit.
A real capitalist whose own money was at work and at risk would never pay these suit monkeys these idiotic salaries. He would treat them as what they are, the hired help.

LFRAgain - you hit the nail on the head. Blatter thinks controversy is good for business.
That quote is pretty much an admission that that is the true reason.

Chile was very disappointing against Brazil, considering they were supposed to be an offensive team. Didn't really have much going for them when they got in Brazil's end of the field.
Mexico gave Argentina a much better game.

I'll add that the deficits are also caused by the increased cost to govt. (ie. employment insurance) and lost tax revenue caused by the deflation of the money supply and the fall in GDP that goes with it. That happens whether the government uses stimulus spending or not.
Eccoman, agree with your points. It is a catch-22, and what has been going on in Japan for 20 years. Every time Japan has tried to cut down on the deficit and debt, the economy slowed down so much that they were worse off than where they started. That is what happens in debt deflation, but then mainstream economics doesn't pay any attention to the concept in the first place. Doesn't pay any attention to the ideas of market instability, or the difference between financial and productive wealth either, because if they did it would mean that all post-war economic theory is a fraud, designed to enrich you-know-who.
Anyways, always amazed how few responses these kinds of articles get here and on other general interest websites, compared to economics or business sites. This is the real issue, not shouting about socialism and taxes etc. But it is the general lack of understanding that allows things to continue, most people just can't grasp just how REALLY badly screwed up things are.
Would also be interesting to know how much of the public debt in the USA and other countries is due to the money creation system. All money carries an interest charge, would we even be having this deficit problem if we weren't still using this medieval system in the 21st century.

It is very simple. The world's economic problems are caused by excessive amounts of debt (money) being created by banks, which was then poured into unproductive, unsustainable, and often destructive activities. Was going on at least 25 years until the system broke down and the amount of speculative debt stopped growing and the bubble burst. Government deficits are in large part due to the money spent on attempting to rescue the now bankrupt banks and avoid a collapse of the system, and government spending on programs makes up only a percentage of the deficit. Some of that spending might be wasteful, but that is a separate issue and completely irrelevant to the main problem. "Austerity" is nothing more than a tax on the public used to subsidize banks.
Not sure which is worse, the idea that world leaders are ignorant of all this with their brains full of junk economic theories, or they aren't ignorant and just pretending to be.

There is a theory that the real reason for the refusal to use technology is the idea that a sense of injustice breeds passion in people, and so more bums in seats and eyes on the tube in the future. In other words, it is for business reasons. Pretty cynical, but makes more sense than the official reasons.

Actually it mattered a lot. One goal lead and both teams play differently than if the game is level. I was cheering for Germany, but can still see that.
