Obviously the Dubai debt problem was caused by Barney Frank and the American far-left forcing banks to lend money to poor Arabs who can't pay it back. Obama and those damn Democrats at it again!

Nobody is leading anybody into an abyss. They are getting sucked into it. The debt deflation spiral has started and there is nothing Obama or the Republicans can do to stop it.

Is this a competition to see who can squeeze the most buzzwords, cliches, and talking points into their posts? All I see is a lot of anti-zealot zealotry going on. I have no idea whether or not man-made global warming is actually happening, but I do know the deniers don't either.

The Left does not want to let the science speak for itself because it doesn't say what they want it to say - and that is there is no man-made global warming crisis.

Uh, no that isn't what science says. "There is no man-made global warning crisis" is a scientifically unprovable statement, as there is no way to measure what the climate would be if there had been no human activity. So science doesn't say it. People who call global warming a religion that other people want to believe in, they are who says it. Even though they have no way to prove their statement, and it is just something they want to believe. Nothing wrong with being skeptical, the problem is when you make stuff up.

Anyways, if you look at climate change as a risk management issue, it doesn't really matter if it is happening or not. But if you don't care about the possibility of returning to a life of subsistence agriculture don't worry about it. You can stand out in the cotton fields and continue your ridiculous "Left"/"Right" arguments there.

For all the talk about McChrystal's new strategy, the extra troops are still way below what the US Army's own counter-insurgency manual says are needed, even if they figure don't have to cover the whole country and just focus on the Pashtun area. So they still need NATO and the Afghans to make up the difference, and it still comes down to the old "Afghans will provide for their own security" plan. So what exactly has changed - it is still the same old "we will stay until we don't have to stay", just with more troops staying there.

“It is my intention to finish the job,”

Then he better change the constitution so he can serve more than two terms.

Ghosn seems to be a guy who knows what he is doing and what he is talking about. Probably this statement is a case of "under-promising and over-delivering", which is what a competent company boss (as opposed to the huckster con-man type) tries to do.

“We must better understand why law enforcement, intelligence agencies and our military personnel system may have failed in this case,” Collins said.

They should start by looking at the obvious possibility that people were more concerned with preventing him from worming out of his military commitment than the chance of him actually being a threat.

Oh my God!!! Some people are making money off climate change and new technology. What a boondoggle!!!! So what - the whole American economy is nothing but boondoggles, accounting fraud, and corruption. But all of a sudden that becomes BAD when it comes to climate change, and everybody must now be pure and honest. Right.

Not sure how forcing a guy who wanted a discharge to stay in the army qualifies as "political correctness". Looks more like they thought he was putting on a show to try and get out, and they couldn't set that kind of precedent where guys can get out of the military by claiming sympathy with the enemy. But the fact is that when he joined the army the Soviets were the evil empire, Islamic extremists were called "freedom fighters", and Al Queda was a CIA backed organization. That such a guy might really go nuts because of the changed situation and be a real threat, that probably just never occurred to anybody.

I only know about all this because of an old guy in my brother-in-law's family. From what I was told, he had a really hard time as a child (ie. sexual and physical abuse), a hard time dealing with it all as an adult, and is still extremely bitter about it all. If the apologies help him and people like him deal with their pasts, then they should be made.

Radical Muslims are causing chaos throught the West, be afraid, be very afraid.

Strangely, the American military and security forces were not afraid enough to notice the nutcase extremist in their own army. When you are looking for imaginary threats (like Dick Cheney/Morris) it gets much harder to see the real ones when they are there.

The continued lack of background information on Mayumi Heene seems a bit odd. She appears to be a Japanese citizen with no apparent hometown, family, or history in Japan other than being a "Japanese citizen". Maybe it is just that all that is not relevant to the case, or maybe there is something else going on.

You guys have been there for eight years and now you start worrying about dithering. Looks like the dithering started long ago. You've had eight years to figure out what you are doing in Afghanistan and still have no clue.

The concept of debt deflation is not difficult to grasp if you take the time. Any junior high school student could get it if it was explained to them. Unfortunately, the leaders of the USA, like the leaders of Japan before them, either don't get it, or worse, they do. In either case they did the same thing. They either naively think they can fix the problem, or they know they can't, but also know that they can't afford to not pretend to try to fix it. Because it will be a long way down.

Geithner has his chickens and eggs mixed up. The imbalances didn't cause the recession, they are the effect of the underlying problem. The imbalances exist because the USA needs the rest of the world to have money to lend to them and subsidize their economy. The idea that Americans had to borrow money because those damn foreigners were offering to lend it to them is a joke. They had to borrow the money because they had screwed up their real economy so badly that it was the only way to maintain their standard of living.

Myself, I think Japanese commercials are often creative and funny, and Japanese shows are (obviously) not. And I know a Japanese TV producer who has the same opinion.
