Of course it should have been. But then why would you expect the terror-industrial complex to waste their time on an insane Islamic extremist army psychologist. No money in that. They are too busy fingerprinting and searching old ladies, examining Canadian passports, and rounding up AWOL grunts so they can sent back for their fourth or fifth tour and be housed, fed and clothed by the friendly neighborhood government contractor. In fact they won't be unhappy about this incident at all. Reminds everybody that the Muslim bogeyman is everywhere and is coming to get you. Great for business.

Watched this on cable last night, some crazy riding which almost cost him the title, but hats off to him for trying to win the race and not just playing it safe. Also he did his post-race interview in English without an interpreter, unlike what a few high profile baseball and soccer players would do post-game. Too bad the bikes get so little coverage in Japan, he seems like a guy who deserves more attention and credit for what he accomplished.

Reports now say the shooter is alive, so should get some answers as to motive. Have a feeling some people might be disappointed.

Guess he didn't entertain them with the story of just how he became a part-owner of the Rangers with 500 grand of borrowed money and got an given an extra 10% ownership stake as a gift for free. No silver spoon for this boy!!!! Or how his baseball "career" was designed by his puppeteers to give him an appearance of a legitimate businessman, seeing as it would have been a little difficult to become governor of Texas with a resume of drunken fratboy and bankrupt oilman.
No he probably didn't mention any of that!

It's in politics because it is politics. The head of Yomiuri, Tsuneo Watanabe, has been a big cheese in the LDP for a long time.
Just another reason to cheer for the Fighters.

Makes no difference if Japanese men have always been selfish, immature, and emotionally underdeveloped. The point of the article is that they are now acting and behaving differently. They are now listless, wary, anxiety-ridden and insecure, selfish, immature and emotionally underdeveloped young men instead of confident, aggressive, selfish, immature and emotionally underdeveloped young men. Look at it that way if you want.

Surprise, surprise, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan are not on the list. But they are profitable banks and in no way have been saved and subsidized by the American taxpayer and government (har har!!!). And they have paid back their TARP bailout money! Of course they were able to do that by having their legal status changed, which allowed them to borrow money from the FED at zero interest, invest it anything that paid more than 0%, and then pay it back before the new compensation rules took effect (which of course ignore all other subsidies besides the TARP). Pure corruption, something you'd expect in early 90's Russia. Welcome to the 21st century USA!!!

Romeo romeo, you couldn't prove the point better if you tried. Overweight black women in t-shirts sitting around in community centers might be news in Uncle Rupert's fantasy land, but in the real world they are just overweight black women in t-shirts sitting around in community centers.
But then the real news would be, as they say in Japan, "muzukashii", and wouldn't put as much coin in Uncle Rupert's pocket.

Shocking news that, Fox News is not news. The little Aussie battlaa Uncle Rupert spotted a market and saw a way to throw a few more shrimp on the barbie and tinnies in the eskie. If the USA had a large number of free-loving, nude polygamist vegans you would get a lot of stories on the evils of cheese and monogamy too. And Glenn Beck would do his show in the raw. But keep handing over your Yankee-pesos if it makes you happy.

@chuckers- Who pays the pension premiums is not the issue. It's a gaijin tax because foreigners don't receive the benefits (except in very rare cases) and receive only partial or no refunds on their payments, while Japanese payers will (hopefully) be able to receive the benefits when they are pensionable age. Paying into a benefit plan when you can't receive the benefits is a tax, not a pension plan.

He could start by not letting the big banks steal all the money. Until he does that there is no point in trying anything else.

Good article and comments here, but I think the statement "Pension and health insurance payments are made at the same time, and cannot be paid separately" applies only to shakai hoken and not to kokumin hokin (the article reads that it is true for both). Kokumin health and pension are separate programs and administered by different bodies, and (correct me if I am wrong) a person can be in one and not the other.
Anyways, two separate main issues here. One is the pension payments in shakai hoken if somebody has to go on it, and the other is the back payments for kokumin health if you have to enter that. Obviously the pension, or "gaijin tax" system, is ridiculous and should be fixed. About the back payments, if people are going to have to enter the system then the government really should think about having some kind of amnesty, for example with some kind of formula for how much extra you pay if you actually use the insurance over say the first two years. They would probably end up collecting more that way than if they dinged people with a huge bill all at once, and caused people to decide it is time to leave.
And while they are at it they could clear up all the legal gray areas. For one it is not unreasonable for people to think it is acceptable to take out private insurance when the companies operate and advertise openly (another reason for an amnesty too). And clear up the definition of "resident" while they are at it. If I am not the head of my own household because I am not a "resident/juumin" in the legal definition, I don't get why I have to have national health insurance because I am one.

Well he did have a good reason to be ticked off if the looking bored explanation is right. Half of Japanese prime time TV seems to be a bunch of "tarento" sitting around in a studio pretending what they are doing is interesting and funny. If they don't pretend then the whole ridiculous show will fall apart, and he knows that.

Lobbyists do not sit on either side of the fence. They and the people they work for own the fence. Why would anybody think lobbyists care about political orientation or be surprised that Democrats were the biggest recipient??? Their job is very simple - remove money from your pocket and put it into theirs and their clients.

I heard this talk on Saturday afternoon, that Tokyo had the superior bid and so there must have been something underhanded going on, so I assume this must have been promoted in some of the media even before Ishihara said it. But it is just spin, trying to cover up the fact that a few hundred million was spent on a bid that had zero chance of winning. There was no way the IOC would come back to East Asia eight years after Beijing, and everybody knew that. All three Asian summer Olympics have had some kind of political statement behind them, and without one there was no reason for them to come to Tokyo. Issues of time difference and European and American TV rights were always more important. The bid was a complete waste of money, and Ishihara is just trying to divert attention from that.
