Well, as I said earlier the mrs and I are good, largely because we dont have kids, touch wood. Though I often wish I did & I can see the potential for Japan to be a great place to raise them but like so many aspects of life I find most Japanese settle for so little & have no interest in making their lives better sadly.
And like PSmash I have sometimes dreamed/day dreamed about being divorced but then I suspect eveyone who is married worldwide has those haha just not as often as we do in Japan.
To those above in bad situations I hope you figure something out for you & your kids.
NOW, for you guys, young & old who are thinking about marrying a Japanese woman, this thread shud be food for a LOT OF THOUGHT, seriously you ignore at your own peril. Much as I wish it all werent so, its true, think hard how your girlfriend wud be as a MOTHER of your kids, and its essential you know A LOT about her family, seriously.
I know when I was younger, my hormones had me all fooled, I lucked out so far & I am almost at the 1/2century mark, in hind sight as I said above, I wud have either remained single or got hitched & tried living some where OTHER than Japan. But even that is a gamble we only have to look at all the child abductions by Japanese to see that outside Japan risk remains.
I really hate writing this I really do, I know so many nice ladies in Japan of all ages when I am out & about it makes me wonder how they change so much when at home, this jekl/hyde syndrome, I wish the J-ladies could beat this monster!

My advice for those marrying Japanese women, do one thing & you will vastly increase yr chances of future happyness, HAVE NO KIDS.
Thats how the mrs & I turned out, wasnt our plan initially but with all that happened & especially they way the future looks we are both glad we dont have kids & we enjoy each others company I wud say more so that the majority we see around us.
Now, if I went back in time to when I was single I wud do one of two things, one STAY SINGLE or two get married & then leave Japan to increase your odds at happiniess, the odds are stacked against you in Japan, I am pretty lucky but when I look around I dont see many others like us.

Man oh man I cant believe how many gaijin on this thread have been fooled by the yakuza, embarassing!
While this is very old news, its common knowledge yakuza supply cheap labour all over Japan to all kinds of industry, especially to nuke plants & they skim TON & TONS of YEN from my ^%&&^%% wallet!
People on here need to realize that they are skimming likely around 10-20% of the re-construction budget & this dont include the KB the politicians are going to snag, we have ahd what 4 supplementary budgets in the trillions of yen, it pisses me off bigtime to know how much of this is wasted & outright stolen, truly sickening.
This is only more evidence that not only olympus but the entire country is rotten to the core, it is way beyond fixing folks, I am a long termer here with family but I aint going to friggin grow old & croak here, the future here is dark as hell.
Again, man I cant believe how some of you have fallen for yakuza charm, pull back the veil & see whats really happened & happening, it aint good & bods very bad for the future here!

illsayit,
what fascilities, there arent many old folks homes, there are these stupid day care centres that waste $$$$ like crazy, there isnt much choice & value for money for what there is is extremely low, thats why most old folks end up stuck in old decrepid housing often living in crappy conditions & its going to get much much worse

China, explode, implode or perhaps both, time will tell, clearly China isnt going to be goin down slow, the commies simply cant control the situation for the long term, nor can anyone else, it will hit the fan one way or another, question is simply trying to predict when.

folks,
there is a lot of pent up frustration in many aspects of life for many in Japan, sometimes things come to a head & explode, especially if they are being held to old age, we are going to hear a lot more about seniors going postal I am afraid.
A lot of this is because of how people live, as I have said here a few times, do you all wanna grow old & die in Japan.........I am not sure I do, looks like a sad way to go

an impossible question to answer now really..............
As a generalization I wud say parents are responsible 100% to about 14, from 14-19,20 its about 50:50, after about 20 its 10000% the kids responsibility.
But even there there are shades of gray

Some Chinese are starting to get outta hand, will be intersting to see how the china govt responds to this, looks pretty bad, pretty flagrant, hell these yahoos have even moded their boats to make it hard for anyone to board, so they are leaving port in full knowledge of going poaching.
As China continues to kill itself with pollution everywhere, food shortages, look out, we may not be too far away from having to seriously look at making sure china is contained, that place like I have said for years cud either explode and/or implode in short order, looks certian to get nasty at some point
