    tmarie,

there are organic farmers, the guy I rent a bit of land to grow my personal veggies is organic, took him 7-8yrs just to be certified as such, he sells his stuff fairly locally though, dont think any of his stuff reaches big cities.

If you want organic produce maybe you shud ask your grocer to BUY the stuff, it does exist, but I suspect most grocers just dont want to bother with it, thats why you never see much of it.

As for spraying yeah some stuff gets doused pretty good, one thing one of my farmer friends told me was to avoid japanese pears, nashi, they can be sprayed up to 40times in a single season, so I avoid that. And by growing a bunch of my own I also know how they were grown.

Lot of folks here seem to think the price of veggies in the city is based on being fleeced by farmers in the country, nothing cud be farther from the truth, JA, trucking, distribution, markups all add to the costs.

Many farms are small but they cant expand due to stupid rules & admin & stubborn familes that wont sell the ancestors land etc.

And whoever it was who wanted proof on the plague that is JA, come on if you live in Japan it shud be obvious, JA strong arms farmers BIGTIME, they have to buy, seed & supplies from designated sellers, JA controls the prices, JA runs gas stations, funeral homes & even BANKS for christ sake. JA have a vice like grip on local farmers, try to get around JA & your name is quickly mud, its dirty as hell & I aint talking about frolicking in a ricefield!

Unless a lot of things change farmers will continue to just get by, I know lots of these people & its a select few in rural communities who reap rich rewards, most just get by.

There is a whole lot that shud have been done over the years that hasnt happened but the farmers for the most part a stuck in & screwed by the same system just as the customers in Japan are.

And this kind of crap is systemic in many other industries as well, thats why Japan is heading south fast these days, the olds ways stopped working in the 80s but too many havent figured that out yet!

    Nicky,

I agree the J-population is at a disadvantage due to language & their lieing govts over the decades, but really the history books here just whitewash the war, the scale & the brutality that Japan rained in the region is descibed as " happenings" or " incidents", so the locals dont really have an idea of the scale of what Japan did.

This imo is done ON PURPOSE by the govts since the end of WWII to present, bottom line is its blatant dumbing down of what happened & this has & continues to cause many problems for Japan out there in the world & its not going away & now Japan is fading so other countries are less lilely to just let it slide anymore.

As for any war crimes committed by US forces, it is that we don't mention them rather than they did not happen, for there are war crimes in all wars by all nations. In war there are no good guys, only bad guys and worse.

    CBlackwell,

This line of thought is often trotted out & its true to an entent, war clearly isnt nice, but when comparing the allies to Germany, Japan, Italy & what was happening thats a pretty damned good case fo GOOD vs EVIL if ever there was one.

Just answer this do you think the world would have been a better place if Germany,Japan,Italy had won WWII. Clearly the answer is a GIANT NO, that would have absolutely hellish, pretty simple this one!

Almost every Hollywood movie about WW2 portrays Allies as good guys fighting the "good war". And the truth is they were no better or worse than their enemy.

    oldsanno,

what the.............you've got to be kidding, Japan is in a league of its own with the mass murder, slaughter they rained in the 1930-40's generally believed to be 20-30million dead, never mind the brutalized & savaged, none of the allies can compare with that for pete sake!

What really gets me is many Japanese readily understand the maddness of what Hitler's Germany did yet are boderline clueless as to what Japan did & that is why Japan has so much trouble putting its past in the past, because they have NEVER acknowledged it!

Wow, the mrs & I visited LA a month ago & of course we spent some time in Hollywood, pretty nutso that this kind of thing happens. On that black friday sale day they have in the US I read somewhere a record number of handguns were sold in a single day, something like 100,000+ guns sold in a single day! And that it was likely much higher because some likely purchased multiple firearms, I think the number was based on background check applications, thats some seriously scary S&^T!

another day another dirt bag, bring the a-hole back to MOF to work in a basement corner checking 10yr old statistics or something, its sad how Japan very clearly TOLERATES these degenerates. Reminds of the jerk who ran the Vancouver consulate who publically announced it was ok for him to beat his wife, what the hell is wrong with these low lifes!

I told you all back when they were hauling that big tank from shizuoka that it wasnt going to be enough & that tepco wud be dumping into the ocean.

I bet they have been dumping here & there pretty much constantly, just let those leaks keep leaking, and as I said way back they wont have any choice but to dump into the pacific as there is simply too much waste water to have a hope in hell of containing onshore

Little late, Japan killed almost 40% of the 2000 there & many died premature after the war, pretty much sums up how Japan operated back in those days, wud like to see this supposed apology especially given the "apologies " Japan has handed out over the years.
