That said buying way way in advance can be a game of roulette, good luck!

I work in the freight biz & fuel surcharges for cargo are around Y70-95/kg for nearby destinations, going to LON or NYC wud be around Y100-130/kg roughly, these surcharges are updated every 2wks, but have been in these ranges for a while.
So lets say we all weighed 100kgs(obviously thats high) for costing purposes, at the highest rate that wud be a fuel charge of around Y13,000.............. not that big of a deal.
While cargo & passengers require different handling prior to flying away, once airborne weight is weight.........clearly the worlds airlines are playing with fares to try to entice us on board, a substantial portion of our fares are now being called fuel surcharges, its flat out lieing!
Govts need to kick some airline arses. While I understand the need & rational for fuel surcharges, the airlines have corrupted that need & mixing it around with their damned marketing etc, its wrong, its highly decieving & shud be outlawed plain & simple!

As many have pointed out, lots of realtionships seem cool in Japan as opposed to warm, its the reason I often point out how cold people can be here.
When the mrs & I end up at some family restaurant, the sights of many families around us is depressing as hell, Japan imo wud be a better place if people were a little warmer, but hey if they dont wanna be, its their life, just glad it AINT mine!

come on, its been obvious yakuza are involved as I said earlier, its simple!
20yrs ago olympus lost a ton on investments, which clearly a lot were held by yakuza, so instead of just writing it off & moving on, olympus has been trying to repay the yakuza losses(while covering them up), which they did with the gyrus & other deals of late, have olympus paid it all off or not who knows, but clearly the yakuza DIDNT let olympus write off the losses over the years, THAT is why we are seeing what we are these days.
As for how many other companies are doing the same, who knows, but you can bet this isnt just an olympus problem by a long shot!

Sail,
All that is the same thing ANYONE starting up in the last 100yrs has & will continue to face. Some of that stuff you can answer or reasonably so, others yeah its a damn whats it going to be next yr or the year after that...........ie same as its always been.
Hell I have a lot of those concerns here, now in Japan because its all as clear as mud on these isles.
As an outsider looking at the US here is what I see, 2parties that are behaving like kids in a sandbox(just like Japan yeah!). I see the US debt getting outta control, largely due to Afghanistan & Iraq. While Iraq was a 100% mistake, Afghanistan less so, but the US changed its gameplan imo, it shudda just stuck with nailing bin laden etc, shudnt have tried its hand at nation building.
I see the distribution of wealth shift obscenely towards the wealthy side, this imo is clearly stupid stupid stupid, how on earth do the rich expect to keep making $$$$ if they are DESTROYING the markets wealth & ability to survive, it isnt sustainable & now finally people are seeing that this isnt all just numbers, it actually affects people, hence the recent protests, which were easy to predict. Now, if the wealthy dont start cluing in to what they have caused, its going to get worse, note I dont condone this but I predict it will happen(violence that is) unless those who have vacumned up all the wealth since the 80s start changing their ways.
To summarise yes Govt is a huge part of the problem, but even more so its the wealthy, now what are you all going to do?
You both need to start getting your acts together before this gets REAL NASTY, and yes I know its bigger than the US but if the US starts mending its ways, the other will start falling in line!

Folks,
The J-govt keeps booz & cigs cheap so the masses can indulge & forget about the crap in their lives, believe me booz/cigs ARE THE OPIATES FOR THE MASSES HERE! Japan wudnt "work" the way it does if booz/cigs were too expensive, think about it

The 3large bottles are almost 6 six cans of the 355ml variety, not a lot but if yr quaffing around 6/day its likely too much, certainly once yr youth is in the past for sure.

gogogo,
I think the tsunami demonstrated that seawall type protection is pretty much useless, wud be foolish in the extreme to re-build & build new ones, they dont work for the most part.
There is a place up north that had a lot of scattered small islands off shore that faired pretty well, maybe there is something we can learn from, perhaps instead of walls a series of staggered offshore piles, manmade reef like structures, cud some of the debris to make some perhaps........

This falls are nice but a lot are cluttered up tourist traps, been to lots you usually need a telephoto to keep out all the daft chicks walking aound in high heels dressed like they were in ginza instead of trying to enjoy the outdoors LOL.
If its one of those definitely avoid on a weekend, you have been warned & these places are not places where one can relax & enjoy the fresh air etc, if you wan that hike a bit & stick to spots that arent "famous" haha
