Japan Inc & govt have been censoring news in Japan since forever, the kisha clubs are a real sick joke & shud be dismantled.
Thing is they wont because can you imagine if govt & Japan Inc had to actually face a REAL FREE PRESS, they wud be slaughtered, and in some cases rightfully so!

issa1, hahahaha, you have got to be kidding LOL! So pls dont keep any secrets, give us a few REAL Japanese interests.
News flash, Japan can no longer operate like it did back prior to the 90s when language & ritual were enough to keep the world at bay, those days are long gone, the rest of the world has long figured out how Japan "works".
NOW its Japan that is going to have to figure out how to deal with the rest of the world in a more head on way, that or Japan will need to opt out of the global economy for the most part, so whats it going to be?

pawatan,
back in the early/mid 90s Japan had a crap rice harvest nation wide, the govt then opened the flood gates importing LOTS of foreign rice, which the locals then mostly left on the shelves unbought, that shud answer yr question.
Japan has had 3+decades to improve efficiency wrt agriculture but has basically done NOTHING when it shud have been improving its lot. farmers are pretty much stuck in a system they have no control, cant change other than trying to lease nearby unused fields.
Its long past due that Japan shud be acting on this irregardless of TPP or any FTA, but the neandrathals in JA & govt have done either nothing or fought against any meaningful changes, Japan simply cannot ignore this any longer.
If Japan doesnt jump on the TPP & get other FTA's going there is going to be massive job losses which have already been occuring for some time now. The likes of Canon & Toyota simply wont be able to afford to stay in Japan if this keep on as they are.

Agriculture has done nothing for itself really in the last 30yrs when it shud have been morphing into larger more efficient/productive farms. JA has blocked any and all reforms, controls so much with regards to farming, runs gas stations, banks, funeral homes & ALL KINDS OF CRAP!
JA is a plague, needs to be torn apart for J-agriculture to have a chance at improving, this shud have been happening even if the TPP didnt exist, but no, the goofballs at JA have let farmers rot.
Clearly change is long overdue, cant let the 1.5% run the damned country into the ground any longer!

Really, so basically what your saying is that if there is little global trade thats good, well guess what then Japan wud be like NKorea not what it is today because guess what, no exports means Japan cant buy any oil etc
Japan has massively benefited from trade but due to internal brainwashing allow only the minimum to enter, basically they have been pulling a fast one since the 60s, well the times they are a changing & unless Japan does too its going to be in for a world of hurt, lets see who envys Japan the way its headed now!

Japanese are largely brainwashed into buying Japanese, its hammered into them day in day out, thats the biggest non-tariff barrier in Japan.
Cars are imported dutyfree into Japan, its after the ports that the problems crop up.

Japan is fine with importing what it needs or doeasnt really produce much of domestically like corn & soy, or grains. BUT when it comes to rice beef apples etc then its a combination of tariff & LOTS of non-tariff barriers that come into play.
The world has been very nice to Japan all these decades, Japan is way past reciprocating, how about Japan.
Bottom line is unless Japan gets with the TPP or gets some FTAs in place its going to be at a huge disadvantage with its major export industries & its already happening in a big way, the more jobs Japan loses means more & more of its consumers will have less to spend, & we continue to decline, choice is Japans but just ignoring the TPP will have some very real consequences, people need to realize this, not just pretend things will go on as they are today
