Perhaps to better get Japans attention, rather than pushing the TPP, just put tarriffs on Japanese imports if Japan continues to use tarrif & especially non-tarriff barriers to keep foreign goods/services out of Japan, clearly all these years Japan has been extremely jozu at keeping foreign stuff outta Japan all the will growing very prosperous due to the freer markets outside Japan.
Just slap on tarriffs, make Japan feel it, otherwise Japan will never change, but then again the way Japan is headed in 10ys time no one may give a damn & any J-company worth its salt will have left these isles

how bloody embarassing! This is pathetic & oh so wrong. My mother just left for home yesterday after spending a month with us here & she was totally baffled the way Japan dumbs everything down, the cutesy stuff drove her nuts.
So I say ya Japan is an infantile place & the way everyone acts, commercials etc makes General McArthur's old quote ring truer today than back in the 1940s, Japan is a nation of 12yr olds! But that number is likley lower now. And now these twits on stamps, WTF!

gyiuza, do you know that cars imported into Japan are dutyfree, they are, they just get hit with import consumption tax, which ALL imports get hit with, so look elsewhere for your cost differences, it isnt at the port or airport

Govt needs to attempt some decent zoning & quick otherwise we will end up with new chaos communities that will soon be void & empty as the eldery pass on & others(ie tax payers) will have to pay the debt except for the few rich to pay the full shot, highly unlikely for most affected.
People need to realize that some areas simply shud not be re-built, while other need to be re-built but with some decent planning otherwise its going to be another disaster in the making.
Sadly it doesnt seem much thought much less hard decisions are going to be made, hope I am wrong tho at least in some places

I kinda understand what they are getting at but imports get hit the same.
I have been saying for yrs on JT that govt & its beaurocracy are hugely parasitic on the country, it is killing Japan & has been bigtime since the end of the 80s. Why the hell everyone in the 80s was saying the beaurocrates in Jpn were great was always totally baffling to me, they were then & are now digging the countries collective grave, the amount of waste & outright theft is collosal in scale.
Sadly 3/11 wasnt big enough to change their ways & they look set to dig us down even faster.
Now if you want to save on yr shaken just go to these city shaken centres, I recently did my estima there for just under Y70,000(all taxes & forced insurance), if I did it at my dealers garage it wud have been Y150,000 at least. Its still highway robbery but you can cut it some if yr willing.

JA as others have correctly pointed out is a PLAGUE on Japan, JA doesnt let farmers evolve to become more efficient, Japan has enjoyed over 30yrs of protection & hasnt done didly to improve their lot, this needs to happen otherwise the hollowing of Jpn will just get worse & then many Japanese simply wont be able to afford J-rice.
Bottom line is Jpn can no longer let JA call the shots, this organization needs to be dismantled before Japan incurs even more damage caused by JA!

I bet if the J-media really went at they cud find LOTS of big J-companies that have over paid for small companies unrelated to their core industry, it seems to be the new way yaks extort $$$, before they just bought shares & threatened to show up at stock holder meetings & ask questions, we are seeing a new spin on a very old bad habit of Jpn Inc!

wrt US bases I have no problems with the men/women in the various forces, with US politicians sometimes yes, but not the people on the ground so to speak, they all get my respect for starters then its theirs to keep or lose over time.
Thing is folks if the US left, something wud fill the gap, likely J-forces, but for how long, if the US left it wud be the beginning of the end of my presence here, point blank Japan just cant stand on its own feet.
While the US gets a lot of flack around the world you can bet pretty much EVERWHERE the yanks are that if they left, what replaces them will leave those places worse off. So like a few others I wud rather have a few US bases around than whatever alternative, it is that simple, John Lennon's ghost isnt going to come back & take care of things

glad you both made it thru all the crap, seems marriage like health insurance in Japan have a few pieces of paper we all deal with then the crazy part may kick in & many have VASTLY different experiences in procedures, costs, time frames etc.
Pretty insane, just fight the good fights haha
