Tom Demicke,
I suspect many Japanese have the same problem, likely less than your average foreign type, ie hand them a pen & paper & start writing & I bet many cant remember LOTS of kanji, but on the computer as it spits out the options they can nail it. I think many older Japanese dont like that computer use now leaves the young ones with difficulty putting pen to paper so to speak

I expect years & years of bickering when common sense shud be employed & changes made, its going to get nasty & they will want Tokyo to pay for it all.
Its sucks for sure but quick compromise & inplement plans & get started, otherwise its going to be many many years, lots of bitching, collosal amounts of $$$ wasted & it will drag on forever & a lot of people feeling they are intitled to anything they want, hope I am wrong, we shall see.

while I hear you, it AINT that simple, you conveniently FORGET how many companies blatantly rip off others BIGTIME, and we are supposed to just bend over..............
I still buy my CDs, buy my software if I need it, but sometimes I feel like I am being violated in the process, it DONT FEEL GOOD!
I dont want to see anyone lose jobs etc, but if the higher ups try to fleece us, they may just be getting their due.

Yadbits,
It sounds to me like I wouldnt think your ripping people off, the key word you mentioned above was imo VALUE, for me to be more specific, Value For Money Paid.
Its when you feel your being fleeced rather than buying something useful, valuable that the bad feelings come creeping in.
Somewhat off topic but worldwide the way the top end is more & more fleecing the lower 80% end of the market is past the frustration, ticked off point, I think people are MERE workers are starting to get angry, mad. I really hope the rich see this & instead of MAXING THEIR income all the time, they need to share the spoils more with those lower down or we are going to start seeing you know what hit the fan, kind of like it did in the UK recently.

These 2 shud sue their companies, thing is even if they win it would take YEARS to come to a judgement & then the court would say, you WIN, here is your Y100,000!

Yadbits,
I think my thinking is much along the lines of what LFRagain said a couple posts up.
My opinions are based more on Business/Consumer than Business/Business. Microsoft is the real poster child for what ticks off most. The products are often over priced & buyers too overly restricted in use.
As for your model, you dont mention any or how much notice you would require to end the relationship..........but if you can clearly show it should work & does, it doesnt seem out of line to me. Now if MS could show it users how much $$ they will save instead of how many $$$ they are going to rip me off for, then they wouldnt be so reviled by the average user
Having said that I think its getting better these days & not worse, if thats anything positive.

Appreciate yr point of view, but the fact cram school here EVEN EXISTS, shows there is a lot thats wrong.
Ask yrself this question. If you could change your past, would you go back in time & change the schools you went to as a kid to schools in Japan?
I will start, NO WAY. Your turn.

Lots of good thought out commets/opinions above, hope those with kids make as good a choices as they can.
Personally, I am glad the wife & I dont have kids here, seeing what your run of the mill kid has to go through frankly I wouldnt wish it on anyone except my worst enemies, I know there is no way I would have wanted to go through J-schools, I would have likley gone insane & likely would have caused the same for some teachers & classmates.
While it kinda works for the locals, the utter waste of childhood for J-kids alone leaves me thankful I never went through it, add in all the stupid testing to get into ALL the levels of schools & how its done, all I see is a lot of wasted youth for next to nothing tangible. I find it all rather sad.

I have ZERO sympathy with the software industry, they are ALLOWED to screw us with single use licenses, screw us on upgrades, they figure out ways to fleece us & then they WONDER why some pirate the stuff, WELL DUH!
These companies have a lot of nerve limiting our use of s/ware, maxing their profits in every changing ways. Well I dont condone stealing, when I see companies are LEGALLY allowed to steal the people, then screw them, reap what they sow the SOBs.
Some of their small print needs to revised, ie cut the crap allowing them to STEAL from us & then maybe we can talk, untill then I have no sympathy for s/ware peddlers

ueno, as bugs bunny wud say, you sir are a maruun!
It really is starting to piss me off how utterly idiotic some of these "leaders" are, your town is finished, I hate to have to say this, but it shud be patently obvious by now. Spending $$$ for decontamination for places close to the nukes is just plain stupid, idiotic, YOU need to face reality, as well as a lot of residents, time to realize you arent going back except to pick up some belongings at best.
Yes I know its awefull but people have to start facing reality, move out, save your kids, etc. THE GOVT DOES NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT ANY OF YOU!
Posted in: Unless half of the town's population can go back to the town, we will not be able to restore its functions. It is crucial that government-led decontamination work should be conducted to put us in a position to allow the return of townspeople.

This whole thing is getting dumber & dumber as time goes on, the govt & people have to realize there WILL be an area where people shud NEVER live again, it needs to determined & implemented already, DOH!
And all this talk of digging areas to decontaminate, WTH! They wud have to determine what depth to dig to & then have to remove EVERTHING above that & toss some where, this is beyond stupid, digging up a couple school yards & the like & hosing stuff down is meaningless for christs sake!
If I had lived within 100km of those nukes I wud have long ago started moving some where FAR away. I wud only go back if allowed to retrive some stuff & then it wud be sayonara!!
Why do so many people have trouble understanding this is beyond me, we are well past the initial shock phase, PEOPLE USE YR BRAINS, please!

This is PATHETIC, but it does remind of my good ole days in the sandbox fighting over tonka trucks & the like!!
Damn if I had been in Japan during my single digit years I could have been a minister or even prime minister here in Japan, but damn, I was never going to qualify once I reached the ripe old age of 10!!

Godan,
Really beggars belief some of this stuff.
I have often tried to explain to people in both social, work circles that while Star Wars has the FORCE, Japan has THE WAY LOL!!! You can sense around you, its everywhere BUT there isnt a damned thing you can do about it!
Way too much in Japan is controlled by THE WAY, free thinking, discussing alternatives, brain storming IS NOT ALLOWED
I too love Japan but the last decade has been brutal & I too was hoping that 3/11 wud bring MUCH needed change to Japan, allow it to re-invent itself, but sadly looks like its going to be an excuse to mess things up even worse.
It saddens me but if I knew 20yrs ago what I know know I wud have never stayed longer than a year here, but now the roots run deep making it hard financially as well as emotionally to get out, but I do dream about it.
I really hate being proven right over & over again about the rot we all face, i would love to be proven wrong, but its unlikely

I kinda agree with this but the reality is govt & beaurocrates arent just making it hard for mere plebs, they are thwarting us.
Just this past Monday I sent an equiry to the Ministry of Finance(MOF) beacause the Japan Commercial Aribitration Association(like a Chamber of Commerce) told me they were not at liberty to discuss my inquiry, they understood it & agreed a change would be benficial to exports from Japan, but their hands were tied & said this stuff policy wise is handled by the MOF.
Well last night the MOF replied( I deleted the topic only), frustrating beyond belief:
Thank you for your access to our web-site. Unfortunately, we do not have any legal/administrative authority to discuss XXXXXX policy with any parties.
So they politely told me to F-off & at the same time confirm they are just doing nothing for Japan!
The rot continues & the enemy is the govt, bureaucrates, we are screwed!
JT you need to fix the quote, bold etc functions they often just dont work.

Japan & China, h'mmm one is as bad as the other, this see sawing will continue, China will keep poking Japan here & there.
If the yanks ever start downsizing or out & out departing the pokes will become probes, skirmishes, etc etc
Both countries have a LOT of historical baggage, the way Japan has delt with hers is being reaped more & more & I predict it will continue as Japans influence continues to peter out

Ah here we are again, think I have read about this before haha LOL!
Gaijin, I am happily one of those, gives me more freedom in Japan than the natives, great reason to enjoy being one.
The word as some have correctly figured out is ALL about context & tone, certainly the writer a jazz player shud know how tone affects everything LOL!
Gaijin, what does it mean, h'm while most Japanese & non-Japanese say it means foreigner & it does to an extent, the fuller meaning again which a few have figured out is it means non/not-Japanese is closer to the all elusive truth, but like infinity we will NEVER GET THERE LOL.
