As for this k-pop explosion, the stuff is fluff crap just like in Japan but at least they dont seem to push the pre-pubecent image like in Japan.
J-pop cud have done this yrs ago, must be a real kick in the stones to see they have been left in the dust.
Personally its all utter crap

Exactly as I said in the other thread, the US has come to realize the Futenma issue isnt going to budge so they are looking at going ahead with Guam transfer & will simply just continue to use Futenma as is.
But yeah this conclusion shud have been obvious at least a decade ago.
So this will effectively take US base issues out of the hands of local politicians, until they can somewho make the issue NEW again.

my 1132am post I SHUD have said ** SOME **spouses, having re-read my post it seems like I meant all & thats not the case.
But I do think far too many are willing to continue living way to close to the nukes & its a bit bewildering, especially when you kids are in the family.
And personally I often find myself thinking if the govt hadnt of lied to us so much early on after 3/11 wud I even still be here, & even now I wonder if I shud be, I mean if the reporting & announcements had been truthful I bet the exodus of locals & gaijin wud have been much higher, especially early on, wud that have been right or not is for each of us to say, BUT suffice to say I am pretty furious at having been so blatantly lied to by the Govt of Jpn, SOBs!

Kamikaze & salary drones arent very good examples of loyalty, the former were often boozed up & on drugs & weren't exactly volunteers & one didnt have much choice back in those scary days, Mokoto-san it wud be good to remember how "loyalty" to the emperor was enforced on the people, & there were those nasty kempetai types to ensure the people were "loyal", those days insanity ruled not loyalty, maybe one day most Japanese will come learn that
And life time employment really only pertained to a few who worked at the larger companies & its only in the last 20yrs that some have come to realize they have been used big time!

I like it! Yes there shud be considerations for a SIN-TAX on junk foods, brilliant idea, too much of this crap is being consumed & costs to health & countries is getting huge, clearly something needs to be done.
When I look back to when I was a kid & the junk I ate compared to today, well no comparison, the crap is pervasive now, consumption is MASSIVE compared to when I was a wee gaffer!

Folks this is all about $$$, the US is trying to make better use of its $$, so they want to proceed along the lines of moving some marines to Guam at Japans expense, which will also score some brownie points, then the US will just continue to use Futenma as is because they have come realize the Japan is simply paralyzed when it comes to Okinawa, so rather that continue down a path that will continue to take more decades & likelyhood of any results being low they are sticking with the status quo.
So in summary a few marines will be moved out & Funtenma will continue to be ised as is for the time being & $$$ will be saved, end of story

likely true about foreign & J-spouses & kids, when you compare the paranoia when the tainted chinese made gyouza to whats going on with the nukes there SHUD be wide spread terror about whats happening, but while there is clearly concerns its mostly head in the sand shoganai thats prevailing & kids will be paying the price.

I find it sad how so many seem to want to bend over backwards defering to BIG BIZ while demonizing the little guy.
First of all if BIG BIZ wasnt so full of BS in their ads & crap I cud understand perhaps, this crap where some say they arte publishing figures fro the stupid lab type tests they have to take totally FAIL to see that the same BIG BIZ proudly parades & embelish this BS tot he extreme, pls due tell why said BIG BIZ dont do something like the following:
While lab tests show 50mpg on the street you can expect 30-40mpg..................due pray tell us, I am waiting
Bottom line is BIG BIZ milks the BS lab tests in their marketing & they shud be called on it plain & SIMPLE!

One thing is to survive the Tokyo bigone, but if you did, then what, the damage to infrastructure is likely to be so great that the city cant possibly work in any sense & the economic impact wud make Tohoku look like insignificant incident.
If tokyo gets hammered by a big one if you survive your life is very likely to be over as you knew it, and the ripple effects wud put most people in Japan out of work, I wud not want to stick around long if I survive the big one, sorry to say but it wud definitely be sayonara assuming I cud depart

3 cheers to the winner, clearly an appropriate judgement!!
I dont want to slag Honda here, its ALL car manufacturers who have lied or misleading ads etc that are a real problem, hopefully it gets dealt with as it shud!
Here in Japan it always ticks me off when shopping for a new fridge or AC, washer etc, the bloodly lies about energy savings are obscene & the pwers that be let them get away with it.
I also hate frivolous lawsuits but CLEARLY this case isnt one of those, Honda shud get HAMMERED if they appeal & I thought the court this was being heard in the judgement was final, no appeals, did they use a higher court than planned, anyway 2 cheers for a deserved WIN!!

I have often spouted, do you want to grow old in Japan, well here is another example to consider, so do you still want to grow old here............... not a nice thing to have to contemplate
AND its going to get worse MUCH MUCH worse every year here on in. This is just an observation, I am not going to blame any one or group, except the govt for once again doing diddly.
In the old days, we didnt live so long, modern medicine/drugs are both a blessing & a curse, I am thinking its going to be more of the later here on in. People dont seem to realize that the people who get saved may well come back to haunt later one, well its going to be a major issue all over, but here in Jpn as usual the powers that be are going to try to pretend a long as possible its not an issue, meanwhile old folks will live in worse & worse conditions, families who try to help will find burdens immense & unsustainable, we will see more people snap & violence rain.
Maybe it was better when predators took out the weak/ill way back in time, in our so called civilization is what we have created actually better.......... its a question that will be asked more often I predict. Man I am not sure I wanna get old....

tmarie,
No dont work in education, not up to the task I wudnt make a good teacher, I merely pointed out what I have seen for 20+yrs here & that streams of drones coming out of schools, Uni's etc.
I didnt lay any blame just pointed out what I observe is all

cleo,
pls note i did say SOMETIMES, and yes one can always find a school to go to.
But schools compete with each other for students & that leaves schools seen as good & others ok or not good even bad. I think its a mistake to be able to choose schools for elementary, junior, senior schools, you live at XXX so you go to these 3schools then Uni etc if yr game. But the current situation has created a system where schools either have it or they dont to at least an extent.
Your last sentence has created what I describe above, a very bad situation imo, where I used to live in Katsuhika-ku long time ago was a great area but the schools were known for being poor schools so were filled with kids that mostly didnt have much of a future to look forward to & thats CRIMINAL in my opinion.
Bottom line is a lot of room for improvement but it aint happening much if at all & it contributes to Japans decline sadly

As a fellow canuck be glad you went to school there rather than here, its totally messed up here. Japan school/uni is designed to produce worker drones which kinda worked in the past but is wildly out of date now for a few decades.
Students have to pass test(s) to get into kindergartens, junior & senior schools sometimes & then the Uni's where the most "important" tests happen. Its a collosal waste of time & energy. If you make it to Uni then you dont have to study much to pass, totally messed up & yeah students spend lots of time of supposed job hunts, its all rather farce more than substance.
Trust me you wudnt want to go through what Japanese kids have to put up with

All I can say thank goodness I didnt grow up here & go to Uni here, what a colossal waste of time, money & a life.
Like so many many things in Japan a MASSIVE overhaul is needed
