The actual rate is about double whatever they announce, the govt LIES, oh big surprise I know but yeah the unemployed percentage doesnt include people who have given up looking for work or I think those who benefits expire, bottom line like with so many figures the govt feeds the general populace they are usually off by at least an order of magnitude.

My guess is the real # is between 9-10% & YES if you were to include all those who get paid by doing "work" that NEVER shud be done in the first place we cud add another 5-10% perhaps.

I think young Japanese of late see their parents & they just dont want to become like them, they have front row seats watching how Japan Inc lied to the fathers, they see working for companies SUCKS most of the time, add in crappy wages, no job security, looking at the math of their situations how on earth could one NOT be depressed. So so surprise fewer marry & even fewer want kids & those that do have kids more & more are the type that are raising kids they never wanted & we read about the kids suffering on a daily basis.

Unless Japan wholesle re-invents this country top to bottom, bottom to top, I predict the decline will increase & at some point the birth rate will drop by a HUGE margin that will excelerate the de-population like nowhere ever seen on the planet. The resulting decline in quality of life will at some point get so bad that the average age of men & women will start to decrease.

I hope this stuff never happens but unless things change I can see at least some of it happening, heck some is already been happening for 10+yrs or more

    nz2011,godan,, some good posts there!

I have been harping for yrs about the piss poor quality of life for the majority in Japan, the decline in birthrate shud be no surprise what so ever. But of course the morons who run the show here are utterly clueless & are inclined to simply let the rot continue as is. Unless this changes the rot will start to increase & things will get nasty rather quick.

IMO if Japan doesnt WHOLESALE re-invent itself its in for major major pain & quality of life will decline quickly.

Land is pardon the pun dirt cheap outside the cities for a few million yen you can easily find plots around 15x40m, there are already 10s of thousands of unused homes ALL over Japan that quickly rot & values turn NEGATIVE due to the cost of cleaning up the decrepid buildings

10yrs ago my goal was to pay off my mortgage quickly as I could, about 5yrs ago I started saving cash instead, tghe future is looking grim here

Nice! Too bad these kind of investigations dont really happen in Japan often enough.

This is the 3rd or 4th group of J-companies that got nailed in NAmerica, bit of a pattern I'd say

Clearly the govt/beaurocrats have messed up big time in LOTS of areas relating to 3/11.

I think this blurbs point is to TRY to learn from the mistakes, for the J-side thats unlikely. For those foreign firms, they missed out this time but there will be many more natural disasters in Japan, so I wud suggest they get hooked into the market here on their own or thru a local distributor or whatever.

But this is a good example of how Japan puts up non-tarrif barriers that are very effective, even to the detriment of their own people, again & again & again & the locals dont seem to care one way or the other sadly

Some good stories, Mabo you really nailed it with the way $$ is exchanged & goods, its totally WRONG LOL!!

I find service is good but too robotic or stale.

What I dream about having is better value for $$ & some common sense!

Last Nov went to LA for a bit & it was great, even tho I had to tip I totally enjoyed the banter with real people, and even around the street or almost getting creamed by a skate border on venice beach LOL, was very refreshing & really made Japan look so bland in that regard.

Japan, loosen up & be more real, the robots will be taking over soon enough!

good article, I have often commented on how poor the lives of many in Japan are & I had hoped the 3/11 tradgedies wud have sparked some serious change, but its not to be.

I have long given up on caring how most spend their lives in Japan, concentrate on my own which is pretty good, nothing special just trying to balance work with home life, enjoying a few hobbies etc, doing stuff, hell just going for a walk or pulling weeds in my yard I have probaby 80% of the country beat...........

The Japanese are as a whole a VERY fatalistic bunch, 3/11 clearly wasnt big enough to bump start these isles, I am afraid its going to take something MUCH larger to induce any chance of change here, not sure if I want to be here for that!

    oginome,

yr post at 0640am has gone from just talking about the highest tech to ALL manufacturing, bit disingenious, of yr 20% as a whole my guess is the very hi-tech stuff you have been talking about since the start of this thread wud account for a few percent of Japans economy.

Bottom line is this overall manufacturing in on the decline & unless Japan can devalue its YEN to 3rd world levels this is unlikely to change, all this hi-tech stuff is great, I mean it, but its not going to sustain Japan at all, and if things continue I bet some of this primary research etc will even start leaving Japan, companies dont have much alternative sadly

    jonnydesu,

nice try at justifying pedo-pop, totally unconvincing. And you clearly need to learn to know the difference between young girls & women, perhaps thats why you have so much trouble determining right & wrong

    SBlue,

Sorry there NO WAY the kind of hi-tech stuff that Oginome is talking about is 25 or 50% of the J-economy no matter how you wanted to measure it!!

But I wud agree most isnt going to be labour intensive, which also leads me to believe there is no way in hell the cutting edge stuff can keep Japan as a whole a float.

    oginome,

What percentage of business in Japan do you think this hi-tech manufacturing represents?

I dont know but my guess is less than 5%, so with so much of the REST of the economy in Japan declining how on earth is Japan to prevail, surely there is no way these hi-tech industries can keep Japan afloat.

At the pace things are going its only a matter of time before J-companies of this hi-tech either whither & die or leave Japan, my bet is on the later, wish it werent so but I dont think they are going to have any other options unless Japan make HUGE radical changes in how a lot of things are done here

Functionaly appropriate garments for young girls = fine sexualizing you girls = WRONG

for christs sake people I aint no prude & love the female form of WOMEN! .............. NOT YOUNG GIRLS!

Sure sex sells, but why on earth do they have keep pushing the ages down(or use older bodies made to look young)???

I can see how the young fans dont see it as sexual stuff, but come on it plants seeds & younger & younger girls are wanting to get dolled up.

Coclusion, THE PEDOPHILES ARE WINNING & women are losing, especially in Japan, its bad enough J-women have few opportunities in life to advance, do we really need to be doing this to YOUNG GIRLS

NO WE DONT & WE SHOULDN'T!!
