What I wud love to see is those idiot whaling vessels pay their own way instead of having me & the rest of Japan paying for this insanity, meanwhile funds go wanting in Tohoku!

And this from my daily yomiuri today:
""Olympus submission of false statements was a very serious matter, but its impact was limited, the senior TSE official said. The official suggested that, at present, Olympus actions do not warrant delisting"""
WTF, just what does a J-company have to do to get into trouble, be criticized, fined, people jailed...................... now if it had been a company based from Europe or NAmerica I wonder what we wud be seeing now.............unbelieveable

Japan has long long missed the boat where it had a shot at attracting the kind of applicants its point system is after, best Japan can hope is to POACH a few smart people from poor countries & have a few come in who married Japanese. Other than that & they can basically only really get unskilled/low skill labour.
Even though I get along well with most of the people I interact with workwise & personally I am under no illusion, the vast majority of Japanese prefer none of us were in Japan past our 2wk vacations. While the powers that be arent openly hostile, they clearly let us know that we are tolerated, little more than that.
Like others here I have ties that keep me here, lots I really like & tons that really piss me off & its getting worse. Hindsights a bit of a b^%ch but if I knew back in the early days what I do now I wudnt have stayed, my 20+yrs have been awesome but the future is pretty damned bleak

Its that kind of built in blind patriotism Japan is so good at that keep foreign competition in Japan at bay, although not as much as in the past, but the market here has peaked & is in decline so foreign companies dont bitch & complain as much about it as Japan is becoming not worth the bother or they just realize its a market in decline & treat accordingly.
But for J-companies unless they can do well outside Japan many are dead in the water

Sony has been weak for a long time now, I just cant believe how daft J-electronics companies have been the last 15yrs, they come up sometimes with something new & boast how it will lead them blah blah blah, when in reality a lot of consumer products the last 2decades VERY QUICKLY simply become commodity products with slim margins, Korea seems to make do with it but J-companies usually flop, look at Sharp with all its excess production capability for screens they pretty much have no hope in hell of making $$ out of, its become painful to watch

eric,
my little rant isnt targeted at Honda its more at any company that uses BS in marketing & sales & gets away with it, it isnt right.
As for hybrids I realize for most now they dont make economic sense but you have to start somewhere & go from there & hopefully they will turn that corner sooner rather than later.

Well if I had $$$ in large J-companies I wud be seriously unloading those as there are clearly many more olympuses waiting to be discovered, Japan Inc & the govt have circled the wagons & will defend the indefensible to the death now.
Also if I were a gaijin working at a large J-company I wud seriously think about finding work elsewhere, as of NOW J-companies will be extremely reluctant to promote gaijin within their ranks

gyouza,
clearly common sense is involved in all this & everyone knows manufacturers BS & that we need to factor it. Clearly hybrid cars arent worth the $$ but there are lots on the road here in Japan(ie many are buying BS hook line & sinker or have more $$ than brains). What I was surprised about is how many gaijin here seem to be totally ok with the BS systems now in place.
Again I realize most people who use their noodles can figure things out but I dont see a problem with this woman kinda taking it to the man so to speak, wudnt it be nice if she won a small victory & something good came of it, instead I see many here are fine with the crap as it is now, thats why I tossed out the turning Japanese bit, knew that wud raise a few hackles & a few rightfully so imo.

Wow, seems like a lot of posters dont mind being BSed by manufacturers, you all must be turning Japanese & just taking it.
If she thinks she has a case I say go for it, there is far far too much BS & lies in advertising/marketing, why shudnt people make a stand, sounds to me like many here have been in Japan so long they are starting to think like the locals do too much of the time, shouganai, it aint just for the Japanese, ne!
