Since when has Japan truly cared about other's likes and dislikes? They exist because
somewherethere's money to be made...mostly in Akihabara; however, I agree they're not very good.Looks like the bottom right girl is a little slow on recognizing who's actively taking the picture.

It's very clear that the IOC members were nonplussed by the U.S. using Obama star-power or Japan using their New Government Hatoyama star-power. In fact they came in 4th and 3rd place!
It's clear the IOC is about fairness, and not some political body or meeting, trying to promote good sportsmanship, since South America has never hosted the games and it's now their turn.
Chicago had the cards stacked against it in the first place and all Obama and his wife did was show up, like he was 'asked' to and make a speech, so I don't understand why it's a blow specifically to Obama? On the same logic wouldn't it be a blow to Hatoyama, too? It was a fair vote to a continent that has never hosted the games, why all the blows?

Bail it out, but then have the DPJ run it from then on. Fire the senior executives, who are largely responsible, and replace them with fresh, new, business-oriented, uncorrupted minds.
It's given that JAL will need more bailouts in the future, and the special task force will be 99.9% ineffectual.
It's also given Japan won't let another company save or buy JAL, so to save the tax-payer and potentially MAKE money and jobs from changes, the government should take control, if only for awhile until this

Simple. As a business, you're going to have to adapt to a change in the market or suffer.
Posted in: First the bureaucrats go away, then the business leaders, and now the politicians. I hear the DPJ members hardly ever go out drinking to places other than izakaya bars. What's going to happen to us from now on?

Japan has about 30,000 suicides a year. Let's say these miniscule lights are effective at preventing a generous 7,000 people from commiting suicide from the trains.
Japan now has about 23,000 suicides a year. It's still the size of a small town each year. It's still among the highest in industrialized nations.

Solution: drastically decrease the price of/remove road tolls.
More people will drive because it's cheaper, less people packed into trains, fewer incidents of groping on trains.

Sure, dolphin hunting is fine with most of the posters, but I'd bet they'd be singing a different tune once these dolphins become threatened or endangered, hunted to near extinction.
In fact, these hunters sometimes catch endangered animals, like Killer whales, which have all died in the process because they weren't released, but sold, which is simply unacceptable.
Until then enjoy your mercury steaks.

OLympic = Office Lady Olympics!? I'd watch that.
If international superstar Obama plans to attend, I'd imagine the chances Chicago gets it will skyrocket, despite what Rogge says.

It's quite naive to think this is only about the dolphins, culture, and being simply uncomfortable.
Other endangered species get caught as well. I remember the fishermen caught 5 or so killer whales and other species in the past and sold them for about $1mil each. They all died of course, but I guess that's part of their
culturetoo right? Many cases of food safety have been exposed, but these fishermen and co. have spent millions of yen trying to encourage Japan to eat toxic meat. They were giving it to children, the one's most at risk!
O'Barry was, according to the article, harassed by the residents instead of reassured that it's all just a culture thing. Aggression is never the answer and it only raised suspicions for the reporters, like poking a bees nest of paparazzi. They should at least be able to buy water in peace.
Other places less economically stable have outlawed their culture of dolphin (and whale) hunts years ago, and that's w/o "western pressure", like Peru and Taiwan. The town of Taiji's still in the Bubble, and we know what the Bubble was about...money.

The initial title is a marketing ploy. Isn't the entire title of this supposed to be "Why the Japanese are Superior People: The Advantages of Using Both Sides of Your Brain!" I already dislike this author for using a title suggesting racial superiority, circa 1940.
Why not use just "The Advantages of Using Both Sides of Your Brain: Japanese Style" or something non-inflammatory?
