  Two reasons: a) they said they would shoot it down only if it appeared debris would fall on Japanese soil.

  We can only guess as to the reason for not "shooting" down North Korea's missile. Obviously, it was not for the reason (a) you placed in your comment. because.....

  Most news international news sources, including S. Korea and Japan report the three stage rocket flew over the island of Okinawa and landed near R.P.... sounds like some sort of success and not a failure.

  I've always wondered how safe they were and if they were inspected...

  Japanese tv reporting that this tunnel was inspected recently and passed inspection.

  Thank god you'll never be in a jury in this country.

  While God has nothing to do with it. I have been able to be part of a jury and do my civil duty.

  If he did rape her, I'm more than happy to see him rot in jail for the rest of his life.

  Definition of denial: The action of declaring something to be untrue. The refusal of something requested or desired.

  Do you see the words SAY in the definition? No.

  Yes, it is very clear you are twisting the story to fit your interpretation. I on the other hand, read the story, and see it as it is. She say he denies. Can't get clearer than that. Law 102.

  He's admitted to have consensual sex. She says is wasn't. He said/she said if there ever was a finer example.

  First, as you supposedly teach at uni, you need to learn to choose your words more wisely. This is not a FINE example of anything.

  Secondly, this story clearly states: She made a report, he DENIES it. There is no "he says/she says". It is she says he denies.

  You cannot judge a man until all evidence/court procedings have taken place. It very well may be that he did rape her, but until the jury/judge convicts him, you should not either.

  While I appreciate your effort to give me the credit (as if) I had the power to convict... I clearly do not. Neither do you have the power to be his defense lawyer. Hence, I formulate my opinion based on a simple story with more facts that you purposely overlook.

  however, the charge here is RAPE. NOT infidelity.

  I've learned a few things about Japanese police, during my short tenure here in Japan.

  First, they will rarely arrest a person out of "alleged circumstances". When arrests are made, the evidence has been gathered, as in other nations like the U.S. Police gather evidence, get interviews, do the ground work then issue a warrant, and finally arrest. Secondly, you and many other (including myself) are not going to be assigned as this man's defense attorney -the main reason being that we are not lawyers. I gather you are not a lawyer.

  We all have opinions. But, this is most definitely NOT "a classic he said/she said" -it is a HE ADMITS IT and she has expanded as to what happened. Now, he DENIES it.
