Can someone fix up the translation and explain the pun? It means something like 'If you tie it too tight then what's down there doesn't develop properly'. But the pun is to do with an expression 'shita wa sodatanai' which means that the the kohai (juniors) don't develop successfully.'

It was fairly clear that the woman was his accomplice. He was probably on drugs and potentially could do something stupid though. Fortunately when his keitai battery ran out, his human battery also ran out.

Dumb. There are two versions, the Japanese will probably focus on the one without a speaking component. Neither are / is a good test to begin with. For Japanese students the negative effects are dreadful. Take a look and weep: http://www.ets.org/toefl/pbt/prepare/sample_questions/structure_written_expression_practice_section2

'Arafo' is literally 'around 40' so can be late 30s to early 40s.
The magazine's catchphrase is 「『LOVE40』~30代までは練習です。 40歳からが女の本番!」
Love 40. Through your 30s is just practice. A woman becomes a real woman from 40.
I won't argue with that.

I've always felt that one of the elements in this never-ending type of crime is that the criminals are hoping to find older people who may be losing their marbles. But on top of this there have been cases where the criminals had extra information on the targets which helped to make their story a bit more plausible.
Apparently the woman withdrew 24 million from a bank but the rest of the money she had at home for a real-estate purchase she was going to make. Perhaps in the phone call the 'nephew' made reference to this purchase. He also probably said that the check couldn't be used and she'd get the money back.

The Japanese term is shitai-iki - 死体遺棄 - which is usually translated as 'abandoning a corpse' but should really be translated as 'failing to deal appropriately with a dead body'. There is money to help pay for a funeral for the poor, but people may want to have a 'proper' funeral, with expensive kaimyo, which they can't afford. But that's not the case here I suspect.
