The Western philosophy of usin' lethal force to prevent the use of lethal force is considered moral. I agree with that.

But what happens when third parties start pushing you to escalate the situation, would this really be that big of problem if International community never intervened, never gave either side weapons and said if you two have a beef with each that is your problem, you two deal with it.

Well, Rubber, you still sittin' on the fence and that's easier than makin' a decision.

I did make a decision, I said that both sides are wrong. Call it sitting on a fence if you wish but that is not going to the change the underlaying truth of my statement.

Come down on one side or the other. Any white feather can sit on the fence.

Why choose a side, both Israel and Palestine are in the wrong. This entire war has been prolonged for far to long by the chickenhacks of the international community(supporting both sides), and has turned into a proxy war for many nations at the cost of Israeli and Palestinian lives.

Another approach, which could help understand why the J-statistics are apparently disconnected from reality and (more importantly) not at all comparable with other countries, is the definition of the "unemployed" that is used for collecting the surveys' results.

    Rarely are two countries unemployment rates completely comparable. Mostly for the following reason;

    1) The defining point of when a person is considered to be attactively seeking employment or no longer seeking employment.

    2) What ages are included for entering the workforce and retiring from the workforces.

    3) Seasonal unemployment being included or excluded.

    4) "Everyone thinks they're underemployed . . ." and some people actually are and go by another name "working poor".

    5) Political idealogy causing under or over estimating in stats.

Japan is no different than another Country.

Am I to take it that bad driving can be excused if we all wear seat belts?

It is not an excuse for bad driving, but certianly an act of negligence on the father's behalf.

As for it being a case imposing Western nanny-state mentality, tell me about it, cars should be able to drive at whatever speed they like, not nanny-state imposed speed limits. They should be able to drive on whatever side of the street they choose, not which side nanny-state tells them to drive. They should be able to choose to obey or not to obey nanny-state created signage like a stop sign or a red light. In conclusion, no speed limits, no yellow lines, no stop signs or red light and damn the state for exercising common sense.

BTW, I hate religion. It makes us fight when we probably would not do so if met as kids in a sand pit.

Religion is an excuse for and not a cause of people figthing.

When has the average person ever cared about the Congo? As long as women get their diamond engagements and the blood has been washed the diamond, they could careless about how the diamonds were acquired.

Highlights - My wife got a job in police services(in Canada, not a Cop).

30% increase in my salary, exercised my stock bonus from a previous engagement(Oil & Gas) before gas prices tanked and not currently working in oil & gas.

Stayed healthy and car free for the entire year.

Lowlights - Parents separated for awhile.

Partisan politics blackened both eye's of Canada's political system.

More snow then would have otherwise appreciated.

Big deal. The rest of the world has been looking after the poor, sick, persecuted for eternity. About time these pre-historic sheep jumped on the band wagon.

They could have just paid some else to take them, like the only other country in region that is even close dealing with refugees does. How many refugees has China or Korea taken(A large portion of the rest of world)? The big deal is someone in the Asian region is finally taking refugees.

Materialism, globalist bankers, enslavement, consumerism how much of those are part some grand conspiracy to make the "elite" rich and how much of it is a manifestation of human nature. Do the "elite" make neighbors feel envy over what their other neighbors have and therefore become competitive with each other? Did global bankers cause the 10th commandment to be written? Unless there is paradigm shift not in economic theory but in humanity, there will never be a real change. There will always be people that will exploit the system because humans it seems by their nature covet that which they can not have.

The bailout funds are in the forms of preferred stock. are not required to keep track of which expense paid is from the bailout money.

The bailout was not in the form of preferred stock, it was cash given to banks in exchange for non-participating preferred shares(and not soley) hopefully with call opitions, which have already lost a third of thier value, from the bank. The banks still received cash as a bailout.

so the banks are not required to keep track of which expense paid is from the bailout money.

Which is the point of article.

From what I can see, there will be plenty more write downs in 2009 as the values of real estate continue to slide so most likely that’s where the bailout money would go.

With no accounting measures, your assumption as to where the money going is always going to be just that an assumption.

The bailout funds are but a portion and not the entire capital of the bank (otherwise it would be insolvent already). What you proposed is so easily circumvented that it is totally pointless.

So why have any accouting systems at all, they all work on the same double entry system, throw in some reconciliations, assign a few people to have signing authority and follow-up with a random sampling audit or two and presto accounting systems 101. I used NFPO's as an example because for the most they are amatuers compared to bank when it comes to financial reporting and money management and yet they are easily able to account for how different funds are spent. For someone who berated the author for having no idea about accounting, really?

It is not difficult to claim the bailout funds are going to all the “acceptable” expenses and all others are from the bank’s own capital.

No it wouldn't be difficult, because it would have to be matched to the invoice/bill or the number/coding of the mortgage that was written off, so it can be traced by the auditors, again fundamental basic accouting.

But hey if your fine with the banks being given blank checks to do what the please and never question where 700b is being spent then hey, good on ya.

I am saying these articles are trash because they have been written by someone who knows nothing of the subject of what he/she is writing about and all he/she is trying to do is sensationalize the issues.

Thinking that there should be some sort of accountable and transparency in how the Banks use thier bailout money, is not sensationalizing the issue. Rather it is stating common sense, there should some accounting mechanisms in place to record how the money is spent. If NFPO's can do it, there is absoultely no reason that the banks can not do it.

    It should look more like this;

    General Operations - X Expense 1000.00(D)

    General Operations - Cash 100.00 (D)

Bailout Fund - Tansfer to General Operations 100.00(D)

General Operations - Transfer From Bailout Fund 100.00(C)

    Bailout Fund - Cash 100.00(C)

    General Operations- Cash 100.00(C)

The writer has zero understanding of accounting or how a bank/business operates.

How is it possible to keep track of which dollar is from where?

What heck do you think accountants do? It is quite easy to do and Not For Profits do it all the time, it's called the "Restricted Fund Method". The banks would have General Operations(The bank's Cash) and the bailout fund(Bailout Cash). If bailout money is used for day to day operations, the money is transfered from one account to the other when the money is needed and it only takes a simple a journal entry to record it.

General Operations - X Expense 100.00(D) General Operations - Cash 100.00 (D) Bailout Fund - Tansfer to General Operations 100.00(D) General Operations - Transfer From Bailout Fund 100.00(C) Bailout Fund - Cash 100.00(C) General Operations- Cash 100.00(C)

This leaves an audit trail and accounts for how the Bailout funds are being used and how much of the bailout funding remains.

The rudest thing that ever happened to me in Japan was when someone asked me if I was an English teacher. That's borderline slander, I'd say.

I've experienced this a couple of times and it is boderline slander. I think the rude thing I witnessed(well in Japan) was well eating at an Indian restaurant and there were a bunch a English teachers complaining about how the only job a foreigner could get in Japan was English teaching. The restaurant was owned by an Indian Fellow and the entire staff was Indian(mostly his family) and the waiter heard everything...

I reckon Canada will be where it peters out.If it jumps the pond.

Doubtful Canada hasn't been near as effected by the economic down turn as the US has, due in part to a better regulated banking system and no subprime stupidity. As well the unions at least in Ontario have done a pretty good job at turning off the student body of the whole worker/class solidarity thing.

That being said there was a roit in Montreal early this year, that happened for almost the same reason but didn't grow to this size.
