  I was a JET for five years. I volunteered on my days off to work at 3 kindergartens Helped establish an Australian exchange program Offered my free time to coworkers to grade papers: stay after school and tutor: organize events: participate in clubs: etc.

  JET is really what you make of it. The Japanese teachers do need help and if you offer sincerely they will take you up on it.

  I put in a lot of effort and personal time to make sure that I made a difference. It is a good program with the right participants.

  These people have serious entitlement issues...

  They should be aware that you do start at the bottom of the ladder upon joining a company.

  Once you prove you aren't a complete idiot you can move from tottori "a.k.a. the second most inaka prefecture" to Tokyo.

  @ home I just leave the doors and windows open. @ work I sweat in misery because my boss is too cheap to turn on the a/c. Basically we all sit around saying "atsui" and lie with our faces on our desks being completely unproductive because it's too god damn hot.

  Following the attack, police say Komatani took the victim to hospital in a taxi and gave himself up to the authorities. During police questioning, Komatani was quoted as saying, “I felt like he was making fun of me, so I stabbed him.”

  At least he had the courtesy to drive him to the hospital after stabbing him twice?

  Yeah, an apartment... not a house.

  • An apartment you own the box you live in.
  • You don't own the building.
  • You have to pay monthly building fees
  • And most importantly, you do not own the land.

  Buying an apartment is a horrible investment.
