Oh, there's no benefit for Japan! There's benefit for Marubeni, though. Especially if you register that section of the company overseas and don't have to pay 50% corporate tax in Japan. (How far are the Caymans?) Plus you get to pack on the "costs" (read profits) and pass them along (in triplicate) to Taro and Akiko back in Japan! Ain't it just grand!

Toyota Hi-Ace vans are (or were at least) a favorite of the "traveling people" in Ireland, colloquially referred to as "knackers" . On a business trip there a long time ago I heard Toyota even mention it in a commercial, "Drive a Hi-Ace, 100,000 knackers can't all be wrong!" The ad lasted 3 days, and was pulled for slandering that particular sector of society. Hurt feelings apparently.

Actually I saw a very fashionable pair of bright PVC orange wellington boots go by. THAT guy's overdressed now!

thepro: I blame Mombusho and the industrial grind, both of which have literally beaten the humanity out of too many people here. Couple that with the "Gimme" generations, 3 or 4 now, and LV bags are worth more than babies.

"No nation is going to stomach a seemingly endless number of cases of murder, rape and theft against its citizenry."

There is also a new breed of US service wo/man out there too. The Green Card soldier. Also the stop-loss felony-waiver soldier. I dare say there are lots of these in Japan. That may be part of the problem.

Just what we need, ANOTHER distracted J-chick applying make-up while driving or otherwise in motion. As if they weren't air-headed and scatterbrained enough already!

Yup, all of the above. But the ONE thing that REALLY bugs me is the mouth-breathing middle-aged salary-men, with the bar-code comb-overs, the thick bifocals with the black bars on the top, who have cultivated their pinky-fingernails, and who proceed with nasal and ear cleansing en route, all the while sweating profusely. These are the guys who haven't quite made the promotion for their vintage, always have their trouser-zipper about one-inch open with a shirt tail showing. They have those hideous plastic-like slip-on pointy shoes, size 26cm or so, with Playboy rabbits for garnish, and often reek of whatever they ate at the izakaya the night before. Usually, after their nasal and ear ablutions they proceed to read porn, while scratching their privates. Now, there's a way to start a Monday morning!
