The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the world’s major sources of instability. Americans are directly connected to this conflict, and increasingly imperiled by its devastation. Not to mention being bled dry. "Radical Islam is caused by the unholy Koran and the Imams who relentlessly preach violence, hatred, and intolerance of the Infidel. Try reading it sometime, you might learn something." Really? (I have a copy of the Koran, and yes it is full of war imagery, as is the Old Testament/Torah.) Radical anything, both Zionism and Islam, can twist this for their own purposes. But of course, Judaism and Zionism is full of peace, joy and loving kindness to all, yes? Like this collection of good wishes the Israelis have for the Palestinians... http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/palestinians.html Read them ALL. Then tell me why talking to Hamas isn't better than bombs and bullets. Moderator: Readers, please stay on topic. Your posts should refer to Carter.

Carter is 100% in the right here. Israel has a long history of ignoring UNSC resolutions, protecting even basic human rights, respecting any treaties it signs with the Palestinians, ans willfully targets innocent civilians; women, children, ambulances and the press. See: http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/6461 And, no, I don't support firing rockets into Israel. Nor am I anti-semitic, an enemy of Jewish people or a Nazi. It's the truth. Radical Islam is caused by radical Zionism. Carter is 100% right to speak with Hamas.

“Neanderthal?” I resent that remark! Bush is a cro-magnon. Neanderthals were intelligent! And all the while "Delegates in Paris ...said debate remained lively as to whether this statement should include a specific goal for long-term reductions or instead be confined to vaguer ambitions," the global heating continues unabated. The time to talk was 1960. 'Nuff of the talking, DO something!

Once I would have said Mercedes Benz, and even SMART, (especially SMART for getting about in Japan,) but a buddy of mine is having a heck of a time getting through to them about defects. http://mercedes.benz.japan.co.ltd.googlepages.com/home So, I'll stick with my Toyota. So far, so good.

What I always find remarkable when the topic of "israel", Gaza and palestine is brought up, is the seething hatred that jumps off the screen when anyone dares to criticize "israel". Not supporting, or even criticizing "israel" does not make one anti-semitic, an enemy of the Jewish people, or an extremist supporter of violent acts. So, check out the actual throughts and words of successive generations of "israelis" who, it would appear, have absolutely no intention of establishing a peace with the Palestinians, and are systematically, using weapons of mass destruction, collective punishment and with activities that can only be described as barbaric, implementing an extermination. A true Holocaust. The Palestinian Shoah. Gaza is their living Yad Veshem. See their words here http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/palestinians.html Dismantle "israel" and the first major step to peace in the region will be accomplished. The cause of radical Islam is zio-nazi, fascist Zionism, as evidenced by the current plight of the people in Gaza. The world is watching!

Hillary has silenced more than Bubba. Apparently, "Shut up, you!" is often barked shrilly at her security detail. Bubba must have pretty thick skin to be verbally assaulted by HRC, effectively silenced, and just smile right back, when in public.

mareo2, you said a mouthful there. "Don't risk unnecessary deaths" Unfortunately, I think all of the deaths since March 20 2003 have been unnecessary. Saddam's supposed to have "disappeared" 29,000 people per year. Bush's war has multiplied that x82.6 for a total of 1.2 million+ in 5 years. I doubt anything the fratricidal killings, possible results of withdrawal, would come even close to that. America has strayed from its founders' wisdom: "Peace is our most important interest, and a recovery from debt." --Thomas Jefferson to William Short, 1801. ME 10:287

I'm telling y'all, I have NEVER seen Americans this bitter, uptight and grouchy (even more than I am on an average day in Tokyo, and that's saying something,) and I blame it on the divisiveness with which the Cheney-Bush Administration has blessed America. I also think loss of sovereign power to a vassal state like Israel has been the means by which this has been achieved. The tail is wagging the dog. Paper ballots people, paper ballots, and public counting. That "whop-whop-whop" sound you hear is the sound of the founding fathers turning cartwheels in their graves!

jeancolmar I agree with you wholeheartedly. This war should never have been started in the first place. It was based on lies from the very beginning. On the morning of 9/11 Richard Clark was told by Paul Wolfowitz to "find a way to connect Iraq" to these attacks. "Slam dunk!" according to Tenet. Slam dunk my astrolabe! Sarge I think my key point went over your head like a squadron of F-15s. The extremists in Iraq A R E the Americans. Iraq posed NO THREAT to the US of A on April 19 2003. The 'war' was won in both the Iraqi theatre when Saddam fell, and in Afghanistan when the Taliban ran, respectively. After that it's not a war for the winning or the losing. Nation building was/is for the indigenous populations to do themselves, with the right tools and minimal interference. What you have now is an occupation. Nobody wins an occupation. It either continues with endless bloodshed or it ends. Better it ends. Al Sadr is a lot less extreme than Bush or Cheney, face it. So, the continuing propaganda about winning the war and preventing Iran from having influence is bunkum. 100% bovine excrement. As for the possibility of expanding this illegal war to Iran read: http://www.antiwar.com/prather/?articleid=12681 Iran's nuclear program is legitimate according to the IAEA. The US simply cannot declare the UNSC or the IAEA "irrelevant" and act unilaterally. Iraq has proven this. America and Israel would do so to their peril. And no, I am not an extremist, lefty, pinko commie. I would like to see a just peace in the Middle east region for all parties involved. I would also like to see the dignity of America restored. The world needs America, as a shining light of all that is positive and optimistic about humanity. Not the consumptive over-libidinous trollop she has become under this current hateful administration. You and I are on the same side. I would employ less "bomb"astic means to achieve the goal. And, for the record, Tom Clancy has Pentagon access, concurs with many of the JCS, and characterizes this war of aggression as "Armed Robbery Writ Large." His words, not mine.

Sarge, "Wonder why killing of liberator Americans never sparks outrage?" America is located on the other side of the globe from Iraq, Iran, Syria and anyone else "W" declares he doesn't like, because AIPAC told him to. Given that Iraq is majority Shia, as is al Sadr, that would make him mainstream, and Sunni's "the extremists", along with the invading/occupying forces. Disagreement with America does not make one an extremist. Resisting their occupation does not make one an extremist. Invading another country for oil for Israel is, as Tom Clancy calls it, "Armed Robbery Writ Large." That is the real extremism here. Killing 1.2+ million civilians, displacing 2 million, poisoning their water and air with DU, smashing their economy, infrastructure and anything else to smithereens, well, that is extremism, in the extreme. Related link and interesting comment under the video screen at http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/node/32710 "Wonder why killing of liberator Americans never sparks outrage?" The message is clear, "Go home! And stay there!"

We've been sold a crock on nuclear power. When "OPERATED SAFELY" it's very environmentally friendly. It's the bozos who have a hidden, short-cut ridden, safety-ignoring, manual in daily use that should scare the crap out of us! Building on an active seismic fault doesn't help either!

....interesting, "gunned down by law-abiding, freedom-loving Iraqis"....! By that logic whoever might remove certain elements of the neo-cons in DC would be a "freedom loving American?" Can't wait! Anyway, I did a bit of digging, (no graveyard humor intended) today turned up the fact that Riyadh al-Nouri was Muqtada al-Sadr's brother-in-law. It's getting closer to home, which convinces me that it's a Mossad hit. "Cui bono?"

Regardless of how they kill them, the seals carry worms, which have infected the cod stocks, and almost decimated that fishery. The cod will never recover if the seals are allowed to multiply indefinitely. Like it or not, humans are part of this process, and have been for centuries. Cull, OK. But humanely.
