Remember one thing in all of this; in the Arab world showing someone the soles of your shoes is a serious insult, hitting someone with, or throwing your shoes at them, is a sign of utter contempt. This is why this guy is such a hero in the Arab/Muslim street, his actions meant much more than burning 1000 US flags and chanting Death To America at every opportunity. This is why Bush should at least make the effort to get the guy freed and let the whole thing be quietly dropped.

This is an opportunity for Bush to do something useful and pressure the Iraqis to pardon this guy and let him go, with a warning that the world will be be watching to make sure that he comes to no harm. Maybe a step further and give hima US visa, he would be an instant star over there and would make enough money to support him and his family for years.

Let me get this right; this kid was in the act of throwing a petrol bomb at the police - an act which could easily have killed them - so they shot him, fair enough, what are they expected to do? Die? Then the so-called anarchists hit the streets and riot, joined by the communists and the students. Students have never earned the right to protest about anything, they need to join and contribute to society first. Then it appears that the police cannot enter the universities to make arrests!! What kind of country is this and how the hell did they ever get invited to join the EU?

It's time Yoko Ono was put out to grass. I have never forgiven her for selfishly insisting that John should leave Japan where he was happy to be with her in New York. Had it not been for that John Lennon would be alive today.

I have to agree with him on dropping the formality and wearing whatever he likes but, as for him intoducing a new fragrance and buying a racehorse? Does anyone really care?

"Ditch 'em all. The Olympics is already bloated with far too many games that only appeals to an exclusive niche community".
I agree with Weasel on this one, keep the Olympics to field sports only.

This is a strange one, assuming of course that we have all the facts. Anyway, he is a gang leader so should be arrested, he must be guilty of something.

If what he says is true then he is a very lucky man who really should acquire a taste for rabbit pie! However, we need more information about the second car; was it involved in the same accident, how long has it been there, if a long time then why wasn't the driver reported missing. There must be more to come on this.

Of course it will but maybe more slowly than in some other markets. Given the cost of office accommodation, long commutes, available tax breaks, the available technology etc., it will happen. These days you can work from anywhere if you have a good internet connection; voice, video, file transfer, collaboration on docs etc., hologram video, you can "be" there without "going" there.

Maybe the driver did say that- to the police. The driver cannot make any public comment until the investigations are complete.

Interesting, I didn't know that they did that, seems they have some domestic market spec only models on sale but I can't think why they should do that, after all it is only a small change in the firmware. I looked at some reviews of that camera and they do suggest that is it is at least bi-lingual. I am surprised by the attitude of Panasonic as, like most Japanese tech companies, I have always found them helpful. Anyway, glad to hear that your dealer was sympathetic and sorted it out. What did you buy eventually?

I bought a Lumix L1 SLR in Japan when they were first introduced. I talked to Panasonic to see if they had an English manaul and they apologised and said no but, if I went to the US Panasonic website I could download one, which I did. A couple of weeks later I bought the matching flash unit and again went to the US site to download the manual but it was not available. I sent them an email asking about availability of the manual and by return email I got a pdf copy of the English text manual which they had made especially for me. Great service all round.
...."purposely crippled models"...... being sold in Japan?? Can you explain or back that up in some way?
