Try watching the program before making opinions.

    >He ended the show with the comment that electric cars “are not the future.”

Incidentally, this is completely and utterly incorrect. At the end of this segment they said that the future to petrol cars was hydrogen cars which Honda already have. Perhaps this is the main reason that Nissan were unhappy? But it certainly doesn't excuse the author from lazy journalism.

He finished the program paying tribute to a group of ex servicemen who were injured in the line of duty and are trying to take part in the Dhakar rally.

Top Gear won an Emmy in 2005. Not bad for some unknowns - perhaps they presented the award during the commercial or something.

It's a tv show on cars that takes the p!ss out of everything and everyone. Some like it, some don't. But it has very high ratings.

This time they've slagged off electric cars of which Nissan was one of the cars featured. They also had a Peugeot which was far more expensive than the Nissan.

But the objective of the show wasn't to target Nissan. They concluded the only way for electric cars to work in the UK to have a dodgem style network above all of the roads because there aren't enough electric connections. In the entire county of Lincolnshire there were no electric points to charge the car. Obviously they could have gone to a County with electric connections but what would be the point of that, it was done to be entertaining. And it was.

On the whole it was quite complimentary to Nissan commenting how quiet it is and how they had to make new motors for the windscreen wipers as the previous ones were too noisey. In fact they showed that the Nissan was more powerful than the Peugeot.

Three weeks ago they featured the new Nissan GT and concluded that it was brilliant, or words to that effect. Nissan got excellent coverage from that episode.

It seems that in this case the lawyers have decided that the association with rape has diminished the seriousness of murder too.

Are you suggesting that because he raped her, he got a lesser sentence?

Supporting the right for a person to appeal a sentence is not the same as supporting that person.

He has the right to appeal. And I'm sure that we all hope he loses that appeal.

I think that too many people are caught up on the fact that he could be paroled after ten years. He could also spend the next sixty years in prison. Someone posted that the average sentence that people served for life has gone up to over 20 years and I see no reason to assume that it will be different for Ichihashi. He was found guilty and given the sentence that the prosecution asked for. This should be regarded as a good thing.

    It's not a loophole.

And please explain how Australia's stance is within the spirit of the IWC. * The purpose of the Convention is to provide for the proper conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry.*

The ONLY way for Japan to reduce/stop whaling is when the public puts pressure on the government. This will never happen when Watson etc are out attacking Japanese citizens. Yet Watson has said he is not interested in educating the Japanese public?

I'd be very interested to know why? The SS have had numerous ralllies in other countries. Perhaps they're only interested in preaching to the choir?

    Over cautious nonesense...

Until very recently this board used to get equally flippant when tsunami's weren't as large as predicted. Let's hope we can continue to be so flippant about the typhoon warnings for a very long time to come.

I think Cleopatra said yesterday that all suicides should put their house in order first but I don't think it's that simple. I'm assuming the vast majority are depressed and for whatever reason they reach a point where nough is enough/ they can't cope. They can't go on. And it's time to end the pain. I'm almost certain that they didn't leave their house that morning and think 'this is it' this is when I say goodbye because there are simple and easier options and I think that anyone who thinks about it would go for a less painful option:

I'd imagine there's a trigger for most. Some are obviously copycats but most will have hit their irrational rock bottom on the way to the station. Whether they've had a bad email, discoverd some bad news or something as simple as not been invited to a party or feeling they've been shat on by the world. Whatever.

I'd say the vast majority of suicides are not planned. But a point has been reached where the victims see no option.

    Which is sad.

Congratulations to Japan for making the final. And hope that you go on to win it.

It's just a shame that AP couldn't send a real journalist to report on this. I got halfway through and was convinced and jumped to the bottom expecting to see it was a Kyodo translation. Awful reporting.

The death penalty in Japan is USUALLY requested when a defendant has:

    Committed multiple murders

    OR

Used a gun to commit murder

    OR

    Is a repeat murderer

Whether you like it or not, agree with it or not they were never going to get the death penalty for him.

    Chernobyl was bad

There speaks someone who clearly doesn't know what happened at Chernobyl.

So far, only one person has tried to use facts as to why they think this one is worse. Everyone else has just said it's worse because it is.

It's clear that many people who have an opinion on this have limited understanding as to what happened in Chernobyl. This is bad. It's bad for Fukushima, it may be bad for the Eastern side of Japan. It may even be bad for the whole of Japan.

But it's not comparable to Chernoby because Chernobyl is STILL affecting Western Europe. Gooddonkey and my last posts were rated as bad. I'm assuming that Gooddonkey is old enough to remember Chernobyl and i'm also assuming that whoever rated our posts as bad isn't. I suggest that you read up on that disaster and learn the facts before you start rating posts when you clearly have a lack of kowledge on the subject.

It is localized compared to Chernobyl. Not arrogant. Nor an agenda. But based on studying the effects of Chernobyl.

As I said as of 2003 400 farms in the UK were still directly affected by the Chernobyl disaster and as such Fukushima is a localized issue.

Agree with "cjsavoie". The Chernobyl disaster happened on the soil of our "enemies", the commies, the USSR. America and the rest of the west had a romp in the park pointing out how inferior Soviet technology was back then >

Apart from Western Europe you mean? Which was covered in radioactive particles. Tea from Japan arrived in France and contained high levels of radiation. Compared to Chernobyl where in 2003 there were still 400 farms in the UK where lamb sheep farming couldn't be done because the levels of radiation in the land were too high. That's 17 years after the explosion. Get a map and then try the 'west was having a romp' argument again.

Economically, then Fukushima is almost certainly worse than Chernobyl. However for virtaully any other criteria then Chernobyl is worse. Fukushima has badly affected the local area. But it is mostly a localised issues.

Chernobyl was a massive explosion which sent radiation high into the atmosphere which meant that it could affect a greater area. Parts of the UK were severly affected by it and there is still land which cannot be farmed. The population of Kanto is 30 million? Compare that to the population of Western Europe.

Too many people have an opinion on this, but don't know what happened at Chernobyl.

Anything is better than a gym with hundreds of other people....

People are turning down temporary housing because they lose their right to free food and will have to pay for the utilities etc. When they no longer have jobs, or any other means to earn money they decide that it's better to stay where they are.

So none of the international experts have an idea...

The simple facts are that Chernobyl was an explosion that spread high levels of radiation over most of Western Europe. Still parts of Western Europe are affected and can not be farmed. As bad as Fukushima is, or as bad as it will get, it's a localised issue.
