Interesting. I thought that the Casino Royale was the best film I'd seen for a very long time. Can't ever remember leaving a cinema and hearing such a reaction from the other people there.

Quantum of Solace was disappointing in comparison but I've not met anyone who didn't like the first one.

Half of Japan can transform into Chernobyl? What nonsense!

Punctuated so that it makes sense.

Hmm that link didn't work but google images 'chernobyl radiation map' and you will see how much of Western Europe was affected by Chernobyl. The majority of people on here are worried about food from Fukushima, yet in Europe they're worried about Lamb from Wales or the Lake District.

I think it is now highly probable Fukushima will in future be viewed as worse than Chernobyl - not by Japanese leaders, but all of the rest of the world.

Not until someone produces a map like this one showing how Fukushima affected the rest of the world.

It's pointless trying to explain, again, why this isn't as bad as Chernobyl. It's bad for Fukushima. It's bad for parts of Japan. All produce should be tested. All children should be tested for thyroid cancer. Regularly.

But this isn't Chernobyl. Not even close.

Congratulaitions to New Zealand on winning the world cup. They showed precisely why they have been the best team in the world for the past few years with that wonderful scintillating performance

A couple of other points... Will McCaw get cited for the knee? And why has there been no national condemnation of the French for having the temerity to where an all white kit...

Farmboy, I'm talking about your video which is of a puddle. And taken just above the puddle. It's inaccurate and misleading. I asked someone at safecast if Geiger counters should be used to measure radiation at ground level 'no, absolutely not' was the answer. In short, it distorts the readings.

Radiation particles are carried in rain, where rainwater gathers it will be higher. When that has dried the level of radiation drops dramatically.

No official data is taken at ground level. Around the world. And that's for a reason.

Farmboy, those videos are grossly misleading, they get people all excited. That spot in the puddle is high but I can almost completely guarantee that at one metre above the ground it won't be. And with the same level of certainty it won't be any where near that level once it's stopped raining.

Go back to the same spot, measure one metre above ground on a dry day and if it's still very high then it's a problem.

But as scientific evidence it's the same as saying the world is flat because all I can se is flat land.

use a geiger teller when you buy the rice

Only if you want to know how much background radiation there is in the store.

How about all the pro nuclear energy people eating the Fukushima rice first?

I'll eat it. I'd far rather eat rice which has been tested and is within the limit than say Gunma rice, or market garden vegetables from Setagaya-ku etc...

First you say claim the strontium can be generated outside of a nuclear plant. WRONG, it is the product of nuclear fission reaction

90Sr is a product of nuclear fission. It is present in significant amount in spent nuclear fuel and in radioactive waste from nuclear reactors and in nuclear fallout from nuclear tests.

Which is not to say that this came from anywhere other than Fukushima but it would be incorrect to claim that it can only come from a nuclear reactor.

*Zichi, your numbers are incorrect. The US number is 170 becquerels per kg. Here's the URL for the CDC page:

    http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/csem/csem.asp?csem=23&po=12*

170 becquerels per kg is for Iodine. 1200 becquerels per kg is for Cesium

Money raised to be given to the families of the people who were (or still are) trapped in nuclear plants have many times been refused from the sheer mentality

As someone who has made countless trips to the region, I have never experienced anyone refusing anything. Quite the contrary, what I have seen is hundreds of people queueing calmly in all conditions and gratefully accepting the small donations that we have been able to offer.

    Smith,

I would have thought my final sentence should clearly explain my point of view but in case you missed it, here it is again:

**I don't believe much coming out of Tepco. I believe far less coming from the Western Media.

Remember that no journalists are allowed into the plants at Fukushima to report on the conditions of the sunken reactors-the only info that comes out is from Tepco.

    Can we believe that ?

Well, given the responsible way the Western Media reported the 'facts' after March 11, this is a good thing. Otherwise there'd be reports of trapped British mum keeper whatsherface stumbling around Fukushima etc.

I don't believe much coming out of Tepco. I believe far less coming from the Western Media.

But I am intrigued to know why you have such a negative obsession with England. You continues to have a go on the other thread. It's borderline racist.

But of course you're not jealous of the rugby team. Why would you be jealous of a team that was number one in the world and won the world cup? Or be jealous of a country that's capable of winning the world cup away from home. New Zealand don't seem capable of that. But I forgot, as long as you're number one in your mind you'll be happy.

Ha ha ha. You sir are a comic genius.

been to england twice and was so happy to have its shores at my back on the way out.

    How was England?

    It was awful.

    Wow. What did you do?

    I went back again.

England lost to a better team today. No complaints from me.

Really can't understand you obsession with England. But I've also never really understood jealousy.

I still ask myself how the hell did they play so shite and make it into the last World Cup final against south africa.

Is the answer because we beat the team that beat New Zealand? It's seriously hilarious, even today when we lost to a better team, how bitter and twisted you come across. It is a shame we went out in the QF and didnt have the chance to make our third consecutive semi Must be nice for New Zealand to have made it as far as they usually do.

Funny. Tana Umaga gave England a lot of credit for going for the try when a draw would have been enough. Guess he's not that knowledgable on the game.

I have a bad feeling for England today. France can not continue to be that bad. And we all know that there's no shame losing to France in a quarter final.
