The rush in the 60s to cut out eggs (which has been found to have next to nothing to do with blood cholesterol levels), butter, cream, and all those yummy things our grandparents ate without being obese 'was based on faulty science'
Sorry, cut out part of that by mistake.

Perfect if you're low-carbing and throw the bun away anyway.
Meat and fish are between 18% and 22% protein, tofu 8%, an egg is 6.5 or so, so getting 75 grams protein takes a bit of eating.
Fat is not the big evil it was once considered to be. Margarine and palm oil, once thought to be healthy because they are plant-based, have been found to be pretty artery clogging. Butter is actually better for you. The rush in the 60s to cut out eggs (which has been found to have next to nothing to do with blood cholesterol levels), butter, cream, and all those yummy things our grandparents ate without being obese. Sugar, combined with fat, is deadly. As Americans have cut out the fat in their foods, eaten fewer eggs, and eaten much less meat in the past 30 years, because of the enormous amounts of sugar they consume, they have become more obese than at any time in history.
A 'juice glass', that came with a standard set of glassware in the 60s held under 3 ounces of juice. Along with portion sizes, table ware has become bigger, your morning juice glass now holds 7 or 8 ounces. You're drinking the equivalent of up to 12 oranges each morning.
Coffee- Flavored coffee drinks (don't think I can name brands) have from 50-70 grams of sugar per large serving. 70 grams is the average that goes into a whole decorated roll cake here in Japan...in one cup of coffee! Add in a muffin for breakfast, a snack in the afternoon (never mind dessert after dinner) and it's easy to see that the average American eats over 200g of sugar a day, one cup of sugar. These daily multiple spikes in blood sugar and resultant insulin surges are hell on the body.
Baked goods-muffins are so huge now that they have an average of 48 grams of sugar each, 12 tablespoons.
Here's a link to Sugar Stacks, a site where you can see, in the number of sugar cubes, how much sugar is in different foods.

Cutting out only fat isn't going to do it.

Samantha, some comments have been deleted by the mods...one in caps saying it could only happen in Japan because the Japanese are naive. I was answering 2-3 comments saying that only the Japanese could be stupid enough to fall for this, a couple of them quite ranty.

Fat is not bad for you. It was only after Americans started the low fat craze that everybody ballooned. The people who claim that her high-fat food gave her diabetes don't know what they're talking about. Even more ridiculous is that line in the article-
Now meat gives you diabetes? A high-protein low-carb diet is optimal for many people. Our grandmothers and grandfathers ate fresh baked bread (no HFC) in moderation, eggs almost daily, bacon and other meats, but the heart attack rate in the US didn't begin to rise until the 60s, when people started to eat a lot of sugar. The article slams cream, butter, and meat, when the culprit is carbs and sugar. Obese people get a fatty liver from sugar that's as bad as what you get from alcohol. Another thing that is alarming, and points away from fat as sole cause of heart attacks is the number of heart attacks in people with low cholesterol. Low cholesterol is seen in approximately 50% of those who have heart attacks, and recent studies with (famous statin) got results of 3 people per hundred with a heart attack on placebo, and 2 on Famous Statin. 100 people have to take FS for 3 years to save one person from a heart attack. Not exactly an eye-popping success rate.
Anyone interested can look up the Drs Eads and Gary Taubes' work on low carb dieting. There is also a doc in Kakogawa (Hyogo-ken) who is taking diabetics off insulin with a similar plan (his rationale being, why oh why allow a diabetic person any white rice at all, let alone dishes of fruit, it's the same as spooning sugar into your mouth, and these people are diabetics!
In the 60s and 70s there was nearly equal evidence for sugar and fat as the main cause of heart attacks, and based on not a helluva lot (in part because the body's cholesterol making mechanisms were not yet fully understood) fat was named the bad guy, and egg restrictions etc began.

They're opened with fake names and seals, and closed right after the scam, by the time people realize they were duped it's too late. You can register any seal as your official banking seal, it needn't be your jistuin.

As I said 'that are rife on this board', meaning not only this thread. A day when such a comment is not made is rare.
Do you mean the scam itself could only happen here, or that amount of money? This is happening in the US, it's called the 'Family Member Impersonation Scam'. You can see several examples from the US, in the link I posted. The amounts in the US cases are less, the highest amount I've seen mentioned is two or three thousand dollars.

That's an older example but you can find many more recent ones. Like in Japan, they use multiple people and recorded backgrounds to make the call seem real. Recorded background (people bustling around a police station, or sirens at an accident scene) also help cover differences in the voices. They also switch the phone back and forth between the people playing the different parts really quickly and don't give the elderly time to think .

Really everybody....the 'only in Japan' comments just show how narrow-minded people can be. Why not try to look something up? I suppose though, that the 'only in Japan' and 'those stupid Japanese' type comments so rife on this board make you feel like your home country is superior or something, but you just look extremely uninformed.

All joking aside, the coverage of the Superbowl by the news networks showed some of the pettiness that has crept into US society....it's absolutely a given that you're excited that your team wins, but some of the comments by Giants fans were along the lines of 'Yeah! We won, Boston sucks!' and 'Screw you, Boston!' I'm sure Pats fans would have been equally as tacky had they won. Be happy your team won, you don't have to insult the other team.
