You're welcome, Ranger_Miffy2 and Lunchbox. I don't know about a graph like you refer to, Lunchbox, but the Japan Quake Map has a 'Daily Energy Release' graph that's interesting.

Too damned hot! Obon was miserable this year, our cemetery has no trees, it was awful....and now here I go again traipsing off to the cemetery for Ohigan and it's still this hot. The dog is refusing walks!

In the US especially, food portions have been increasing for 20 years or more. The average muffin is more than double the size a muffin was in the 70s. Food packages themselves are larger, there's now a 52-ounce bag of M&Ms! Paying a few more cents to double the size of your meal is another way in which people have become accustomed to eating more and more food at a sitting.
Only about 3% of obese people have a thyroid or other hormonal or glandular problem that makes them gain weight, the rest are overeating, or eating too much junk.
Darren, do you think that people can get too fat by the effects of corn syrup even if they don't overeat(the corn syrup affecting metabolism) , or do you think it's a cumulative effect, all the corn syrup they take in from various sources adding up to too many calories?
There's a doctor in Kakogawa who has taken his diabetes patients off carbohydrates and many can quit insulin. They eat low-carb fusuma bread instead of bread and rice. High-GI fruits and veggies are also restricted. He has been very successful in treating diabetes with a low-carb diet. Americans eat huge amounts of potatoes, the Japanese eat huge amounts of rice. Americans, in addition, eat a lot of sweet candy and ice cream. That obesity is on the rise shouldn't be a surprise.

It is no longer always two controllers. There was an incident in the US in March-
"2 planes land at Washington airport without controller help
Two planes landed safely early Wednesday morning at Washington's Reagan National Airport after they were unable to reach anyone at the airport's air traffic control tower, according to the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The FAA would not comment on a media report that the airport controller had fallen asleep. NTSB spokesman Peter Knudson said, "All we know is the controller was unresponsive and we want to know why."
The situation began at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday when an American Airlines plane attempted to call the tower to get clearance to land and got no answer, Knudson said. The plane had been in contact with a regional air traffic control facility, and a controller at that facility advised the pilot that he, too had been unable to contact anyone at the tower, according to a recording of air control traffic at the website liveatc.net."
Scarier is this guy who made a bed on the floor to purposely sleep-

Seems to be a problem in many countries, not enough workers and/or shifts that are too long.

He was supposed to be clairvoyant and know ahead of time that this man would put his foot in it, and not appoint him?
This happens every time a new PM is elected.....he's God's gift to the world until elected, and not one week in they start with 'where did he get his campaign money from' and savaging his choices of cabinet ministers. Why not investigate this stuff BEFORE you elect someone!? Novel idea, eh?

If you have a blood alcohol level of over the legal 0.03 when pulled over for a Breathalizer test, you'll test negative the next day, but you'll still be guilty of drunk driving, no?

All out of his imagination. This is a huge insult to anyone in the quake area. People are, in anything, drawing closer. Weddings are being held in the shelters, and I've seen too many parents grieving the loss of family members to believe that those left behind would encourage others to kill themselves. This is awful.
If he has evidence that anything like this is happening, perhaps he has the right to film it (although I would still find it callous). But this is fiction! It's nothing but his idea of what could happen. It's unnecessarily hurtful. What an ego.

The number after the boat name is the length. The Ponam 45 is 45 ft. etc.
The 12 is undoubtedly for cruising, not sleeping. It might sleep 4 (can't find that info though). In many of these boats, you can lower the dining table to bench height and then use cushions on it to sleep.

That is the right price....the advertising blurb for it online says
eh!? Still doesn't seem right....I assume the '35' means it's a 35-footer? That's a pretty high price for a boat that size.

Yes, and Ty Neilson also gave a good example of the bizarre conversations that can take place...'gaijin' doesn't mean only 'foreigner' but I think anyone who has light colored hair and blue eyes, and that's why Japanese throw fits when you call them 'gaijin' in a foreign country. It's really funny, my in-laws did the 'ukkai' bit too. They visited us when we lived in Zurich, and we took them to London. 'Wow, lots of gaijin!!' :-D We pointed out that THEY were the 'gaijin', FIL had a good laugh about it (he was always open-minded).
