This guy is not allegedly guilty of rape, he is allegedly guilty of theft. He ate deserts that were in the display without paying for them.

Wow. That ranks right up there with "the tramp was wearing a miniskirt, so she deserved it." Just because a woman is a…

"is unlikely to have been the culprit!" (the original Japanese is 真犯人と思われない人 "hanin to omowarenai hito." = "is thought not to be the culprit")

Timtak, omowarenai is more accurately translated as "cannot be considered as the culprit." re vs. ra. It's a pretty unambiguous statement.

Make it simple - in the spirit of the original Olympic games, just even the playing field and have all the competitors compete in the buff.

Added bonus - more people would actually watch.

After the infamous sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway in March 1995, blame for the 1994 attack was shifted to the cult Aum Shinkiryo. The police chief, on behalf of the police department and media, publicly apologized to Kono.

The article makes it sound like the police immediately apologized…

There is a rather simple analogy that might make this case easier to understand for some people.

Drinking and driving is like waving a loaded gun around and firing at random. If you are lucky, you don't hit anyone or anything. If you're unlucky, you injure or kill a person,…

Hmmm... I've seen clinics advertising for doctors on Daijob for as high as 18 million yen annual salary... a far cry from a 300,000 yen per month cap. Perhaps the 300,000 yen cap is a per-patient non-surgical procedure payment cap?

This is amazing... this was on appeal by the prosecution, as the original sentences were 3 years suspended for 4 years, and 14 months suspended for three. The first judge (district court) handed down that slap on the wrist... and the high court judge didn't add much.

    The prosecution have…
