Professional athletes and entertainers are paid based on "performance". Attorneys probably contribute too much money to politicians, for the democrats to target.Anyway attorneys have been problematic since Shakespeare's day.

Womanforwomen, I am not sure this concept of not talking to neighbors is unique to Japan. It is much more global. People relocate more frequently than before. Also the internet keeps people holed up at home. However these love hotels are definitely unique to Japan.
