It is also interesting to read about this:

"I asked my husband, 'Why is he living in tents?'" she said. "And he said, 'Maybe that is how they like to live.'"
It's good to see justice finally done. Feel sorry for her mother and stepfather (who was previously accused of committing this crime) who had to go through this for 18 years. I can't imagine how much pain and stress they must have gone through for so long.

Sick joke, but I would think the person using the toilet seat, would have the common sense to (a) check the seat first, and (b) put something on it (e.g. toilet paper). I know I always do. I never want my bare bottom to come in direct contact with any public toilet seat in the first place.

Yes, so sad to the victims, and I hope they rest in peace. However, this is a good example where it pays to use your common sense and not let curiosity get the best of you.

herefornow, read my quote again: "Congrats to him and all the runners who completed it. "
I simply said that ALL runners in this marathon, from every country should be congratulated. How can you not agree that runners from all the world should not be respected?

Excellent point. Congrats to him and all the runners who completed it. I'm sure all the haters on this thread are just jealous that they can't even finish a marathon, much less compete in one. IMHO, at least the marathon is a real sport, unlike that racewalking stuff.

You mean to tell me, that if you suddenly happened to see two people in plainclothes shooting at each other, you could honestly tell who is the perpetrator and who is the innocent civilian gun-owner? Ha, right.

Paranoia and pride are the key factors here. The guy who thought it was in his right to bring a gun (much less an assault weapon), obviously was paranoid that he had to protect himself in the oft-chance that someone would start shooting their gun at this convention center. He is probably the type who also believes that he will likely encounter a terrorist hijacking on an airplane, so he would probably demand that he should be able to carry weapons on board a plane as well.
I really would like to tell this bozo that I am an American citizen, and like most, don't feel there is a justifiable need to carry one with me 24/7. Yes, there is the slim possibility that I may encounter a situation where someone is suddenly firing off a gun. However, as much as I would fear that perpetrator, I would just as much fear an innocent citizen holding a gun as well, since I can't assume that they have been properly trained to handle a gun. Yes, guns don't kill, but in untrained hands, they also don't protect well.

Of course it creates a "chilling effect". Most Americans are not used to seeing people brazenly carrying guns around in public. I know I'm not, and I'm glad for it.
Excellent point, smithinjapan. I can imagine that a scenario like that could happen. As more and more people feel comfortable with their "right" to carry a gun around, they will start to feel to relaxed with it. Imagine if just one of them unholsters it accidentally and another gun-toting citizen sees it and misinterprets it as a hostile act. He or she then unholsters their weapon, ... Of course, they will all claim that they have the right to use their guns because they had to "protect" themselves from the other citizen with a gun. Fear and paranoia begets more fear and paranoia.

I totally agree, pawatan. Anywhere you go in the world, there will be your fair share of elitist country club golf courses where the general public will find it hard to afford. Then there will be the affordable public links which more people can go to, but just have to deal with some waiting for starting times. I know in California, that there are about 10% of the golf courses which would be affordable for most people.

I have to disagree with you on this point. China only looks at the here and now when it comes to sports programs and venues. Take a look at Yao Ming and how because they were selfish in demanding that he play for their national team, while playing in the NBA, his career is now in jeopardy (and at still a young age). Also, look at what has become of their billion-dollar Olympic venues: all of them are being left unused and wasted. All that money spent for a few weeks of fun.

Good point biglittleman. Golf courses in Japan and Korea are just way too expensive. Also, they are nonexistent in places like China and Taiwan. Asia has to make more of an effort to promote the sport of golf if they want its popularity to surge.

Good point. Markets like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and China just aren't doing enough to market their players. Seems to me that the Korean and Japanese ladies outshine their male counterparts.

Wow! What a finish to an interesting PGA Championship. Congratulations to Yang. He was absolutely clutch when it mattered. Overall, it was a big upset, as Tiger is usually able to hold off challenges like that; especially when having the lead going into the final round.
Also, it was a nice overall tournament for Ryo Ishikawa, who finished at +8 and tied for 56th. It was his first PGA Championship and he is still only 17, so he will only get stronger and better.

9.58 is absolutely awesome. Congrats to Usain Bolt on breaking the world record yet again. Watching it on TV, it looks like Bolt isn't even running hard, but with his height and long strides, he just makes it look easy.

Excellent show. I learn a lot of Kanji from watching it (for now, I can usually recognize the first 4-5 questions). The historical questions are also quite difficult, but interesting. This show definitely beats that mindless Hexagon crap.

I don't understand why you would want to see this crap of film in the first place. Me, I prefer to see something more compelling.

Very impressive that Date Krumm was able to take a player 20 years her junior to three sets. Good for her and I love her spirit. Reminds me of George Foreman.

At least they are expressing themselves in a way that isn't harming anyone. Harmless and certainly not violent in anyway.

Good point. There have been several stories coming out where Good Samaritans have either been punished, or sued for their good deeds. I remember one where a man saved a woman from a car in a flood, but was sued for causing some damage to her arm, from saving her. That is totally whacked if you ask me.

Sounds just like the war waged between a bunch of cancer patients in the U.S. and big companies such as Philip Morris and RJ Reynolds. Frankly, it is a tough battle, but one that I hope will push towards the side of the nonsmoker. One way to stop this image of smoking is to ban it completely from movies. It is appalling that tobacco continues to be featured in movies, especially by Hollywood.
