Contador may be a great rider, but any team who employs him will end up with a selfish ego who is not a team player.

As well as every rider on Team Astana. That team has a whole bunch of egos on it.

I'm also hoping no one gives into the demands of NK, for once. If everything goes according to original script, NK will demand more money in aid in exchange for "total disarmament" yet again. We pay more money to them, and all's well until they need more, and so they will start launching more "test missiles", and the cycle starts over again. The only way to break this viscious cycle is to NOT pay NK anything.

Sad story. My condolences to woman. No matter how "coldly" you may feel a person treats you, it certainly doesn't warrant warrant murder.

The writer seems to think that all mentally ill people should be locked up in inpatient care. Then he/she has the gall to say that Japan doesn't understand mental illness.

Excellent point, JenniferKim! Seeing these kinds of hypocrisies are quite surprising. But then again, if you visit JT long enough ...

If I've learned anything about handling the police in my 40+ years, it's to always stroke their egos. Always. Always. Always.

Good advice, Taka. It's something that should be done when encountering police anywhere in the world.

why the Japanese have to wait nine months longer than the citizens of Kazakhstan to watch a thoroughly good film.

Good film? You're the type that probably thinks "Transformers 2" should be nominated for an Oscar.

You'd think Japan was the only country to have this opportunity.

Uh, pukey2. The article and others on this website about the eclipse say nothing about "Japan was the only country to have this opportunity". All news media outlets here were reporting from places like India and Shanghai.

Not for nothing, I believe more the police than that of Gates. He got hostile with them, of course depending on which report you want to believe. No, he used what a politician would use when being pulled over for a broken tail light. he is the one that abused power.

Well, I'm believing in both stories to some extent. Yes, Gates probably abused his power by stating "You don't know who you are messing with". The police then abused their power to disregard identifying themselves (We are the police, and we don't have to identify ourselves to you). Remember, it is the public's right to ask police for proper identification as well. Abuse of power goes both ways.

I'm betting that you can't distinguish between the various pronunciation patterns inherent in Mandarin Chinese. Believe me, it is a difficult language to understand, much less master. The complexities with the pronunciation is something to behold. Then again, I haven't even mentioned Cantonese.

Being loud and tumultuous always makes a police pause.

Then I guess it gives the police every right to arrest you if you were found to be "tumultuous", for example, having a BBQ party on your own property. Heck, in the States, I've seen disorderly drunks, yelling obscenities at police, not being arrested and questioned like this. All they are given is a stern warning and sent home.

Point is, until the results of this case are made clear, the clear definition of what constitutes "loud and tumultuous" behavior is vague at best, and thus an excuse. At what point did Gates' behavior become loud and tumultuous? Did he spit in their faces? Were neighbors complaining? Did he strike or punch at the cops? Was Gates in anyway a threat to the police or anyone else? We won't know until proven in a court of law.

One thing I really do not like is someone telling me, “You don’t know who you’re messing with”.

The unfortunate thing is, until it is proven in a court of law, that Gates said this, is a matter of "He said ..."

One thing that is not mentioned in this article is that Gates had just come back from a trip to China and had an infection which inhibited his breathing; which would make it difficult for him to "raise his voice" as the police has claimed he did.

the guy had already caused problems

You're right, nandakandamanda. Both Gates and the cops were causing some problems for each other. Things got out of hand on both sides. I guess until a thorough investigation is done, and we hear both sides of the story, we won't know who started what, and if proper protocol was followed by both parties.

The point is, we shouldn't condemn both the cops, nor Gates for being guilty until proven innocent. Then again, Gates will probably make his side of the story look bad for the cops, while the cops will probably make their side of the story look good for themselves. The unfortunate consequence is that we may never know the true story.

Counter said he spoke to Gates, who told him police continued to question him after he showed them his license and Harvard identification.

Well, what's good with identification if it isn't going to be accepted as legal? Oh, that's right... IDs should be considered fake unless thoroughly proven to be legal. Suspects should be considered guilty until proven innocent. I thought it should be the other way around?

Nakamura should learn some respect from Tomas Rosicky (captain of Czech and now at Arsenal).

Then again, if Tomas Rosicky is so great and loyal, then why hasn't he remained with his old club, Sparta Prague? Why did he go off to Borussia, and then Arsenal? In fact, didn't he remain with Sparta for only three years? Truly there must be more loyal players than that.

Stop whinging about 'badge kissing' and treating him like a lying scheming no-good. He is doing what every other modern football player does, going where the money is!

Good point. The only ones who are not doing any "badge-kissing" are the non-stars. From the likes of Ronaldo, Zidane, Henry, and Beckham, there aren't any football stars who don't change teams nowadays. Yes it's sad, but the only ones who stay put with one team for a long time are those who are not very good and thus not in demand. It's the same in every major team sports in the world. I just can't see how this is an isolated event.

yoko, I don't respect or trust any player who kisses the badge of every different club that he plays for, just to try and prove his loyalty to that clubs supporters.

Well, I've seen so many star players do such a thing. Cristian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, and Del Piero to name just a few. And last time I checked, They have all switched teams at one time or another; kissing a whole slew of badges.
