Although it may be true that events after 9/11 warranted certain extreme measures (as in the form of "warrantless wiretaps"), it makes no sense to abuse constitutional civil liberties such as the right to free speech and to openly criticize the government. Bush ended up being the type of President that supported the "right to bear arms" over the "right to free speech". And you know you are in trouble when you end up sacrificing one freedom for the proliferation of another.

There's an even better solution to that: Pool all teams into one single pool and let them play each other at least once. So, if there are 16 teams, they each play 15 games. The best overall record wins. If there is a tie, base it on best RSF vs. RSA ratio. That would be absolutely fair. End of story.

I'm really looking forward to this tournament. I just hope they get some competent umpires this time, that won't be budged by some Dead Presidents.

USARonin likes throwing these red herrings when he don't even know what he's talking about. This article is about a man shooting another IN A MOVIE THEATER. Now, USARonin likes to point out that if you commit a crime on FEDERAL PROPERTY, you can receive the death penalty, even if it is in a state that does not support it. So, what USARonin would like all of us to believe is that this Pennsylvanian MOVIE THEATER is located on FEDERAL PROPERTY. How many of you out there actually believe that? Yes, this man could face the death penalty if he had killed someone, but it is because the state of Pennsylvania supports the death penalty, NOT because of Federal Property laws.
Because you don't like facing the facts. In my original post, I stated that not all fifty states have the death penalty, because according to USARonin, all fifty does. So what that amounts to is that if someone were to shoot and kill someone else in a movie theater, no matter which state they are in, they can receive the death penalty. WRONG! If that happened in say North Dakota, the worst you'll get is life imprisonment. It is why they haven't had any executions, nor prisoners on death row since 1976. Again, do your research, USARonin!

Yup, relying on blood types, astrology, palm reading, numerology, and birthdates are not very reliable sources for studying human behavior.
Posted in: Blood type is a good tool to understand different human behaviors. Most Japanese have some knowledge of each blood type and its trait so blood type often becomes a good conversation piece.

"Commit a number of differin' crimes on Federal property in any one of the fifty, and the perpetrator may receive the death penalty.
No need for me to check your link, 'cause you didn't take in to account US law and federal property."
I have a question USARonin, why do you mention federal property and the death penalty? United Artists Riverview Stadium is not located on federal property. Yes, Pennsylvania has the death penalty, but for argument's sake, if this crime was committed in a movie theater in say North Dakota, he wouldn't be given the death penalty because it doesn't exist in North Dakota, and the theater is not located on federal property. Are you saying that all movie theaters are located on federal property?

I agree with you northlondon. I've done a lot of long-distance running myself, and it sure beats the hell out of all those fad diets I see around. Heck, when I played baseball, my coach used to make us run for three miles a day. It really helped to build our stamina and stay longer in the game.

USARonin. Please do your research again. Not all fifty states have the death penalty. Hawaii for one doesn’t have it and there are several others that don’t either. You can check the Death Penalty Information Center for more information. Here, I’ll even provide the webpage for you:

I agree with that point too. The gun may have not been all at fault, but it didn't help at all that he had one in the first place. Guns and whackos don't mix. And to all you pro-gun lobbyists out there, yes, maybe having a gun for protection may protect you, provided that you are well-trained in using it and are well-versed in keeping it safely locked up. However, most law-abiding citizens I know don't own one and will never want to. It is just too damn scary to carry one and there is a great chance that it will do more harm to you than to protect you.

To VoXman, and all posters like him, stay on topic. The point I do agree with is that this shoe-thrower, Muntadhar, has been arrested and is rightfully being kept in a prison. What I don't agree with, is that torture is an acceptable form of treatment. This article clearly states that a confirmed judge has stated that enough evidence shows that an investigation should be done as to why he has sustained multiple bruises and torture. I for one, do not accept such actions, and I would hope that others would not too. Guilty of throwing shoes he is, but he does not deserve to be treated like a dog.

Congratulations to Mao. Nakano Yukari didn't do so well in her free skate and fell a couple of times, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway, since Mao is the only one who nailed the triple axel (twice).

Go Yukari Nakano! I really want to see her win. There's been a known rumor that she often gets shafted by judges because she doesn't get the sponsors like Mao and Miki Ando do. But I really like her style. Unlike Miki Ando (who is just a crybaby), Nakano goes out there and fights, and never cries. She even has a much better smile when skating, than the lost look I see on Ando's face, or sometimes perplexed look of Mao's. And to add, Nakano has the most awesome donut spin I have ever seen. Go Nakano!

"...scam of the highest degree"
I agree. Yukari Nakano should have won. She landed all her jumps and was superior in every aspect to Mao. But like always, the judges deem her not as "cute" as Mao.

I saw the short program last night and am watching the free tonight. Yukari Nakano's my favorite, but it always seems she gets shafted. She had a flawless routine tonight, but got such a shitty score. Then again, I'm no skating judge.

Why only mention Japan, Jackie? The French, British, Aussie, and Chinese media outlets were also at it again. I saw a Chinese website where a poll was asking how much skin color played a part in this election. A whopping majority said it did! Wow! Go figure!

That's right, rjd jr. It is a wonderful moment in time. For once in so many years, there is hope in the air. The fact that our children can witness that a man of color can ascend to the highest office in the land. It is a bold statement that even a country such as the U.S., which has had a history of racism, can change. Like Martin Luther King helped to bring more equality and rights to those of color, when very little existed before him; Obama can also bring about even more changes to come in the future. Of course, this is not the only change I believe Obama can bring about. There is also the matter of the economy and uniting the world (which has been so alienated under 8 years of Bush).

Quoted from yahoo news:
"Nov. 4, 2008, was the day when American politics shifted on its axis.
The ascent of an African-American to the presidency — a victory by a 47-year-old man who was born when segregation was still the law of the land across much of this nation — is a moment so powerful and so obvious that its symbolism needs no commentary."

Not only the Japanese, but also the Brits, Americans, and the rest of the world. I saw it on CNN. They had reactions from media outlets in Moscow, Britain, reactions from Chicago, Arizona, New York, and Los Angeles, and everyone that was spoken to brought race to the forefront as an issue. Why do you ask? Because you can't deny that Obama becoming the first African-American elected to the presidency is historic. Not only the Japanese recognize this, but the whole world does as well. CNN and other media outlets were also showing and playing up the fact that his father's roots are deep in Kenya and how Kenyans were so "proud" to have Obama elected as the next U.S. president. Why would CNN do that? Why bring up the past? Because they want to bring up the topic. An American media outlet wants to bring up the topic. You can't deny it.

How is this redundant? It's like stating what you said: " I expect their will be more flops and disappointments. " is also redundant, since when someone flops, another gets disappointed. And by the way, if you are correcting my grammar, then look no further than your use of the word "their". You should have written "there".
