Of course it wouldn't. By nature, crime tends toward high income, low output. When legalized, it will be highly taxed both ways, in deep competition, and would be too much for it to be worthy of doing for criminals.

They will simply find something else and make a new base of operations. And there is a lot more than drugs that can make a quick income and is illegal.

The article never mentioned if the father did anything illegal... This "violence" may have been just yelling and throwing things around. If he did not do anything illegal, that would explain why the cops had no grounds for interfering.

It's true that American trains are pretty bad. However, America is just too big to put trains in any more than a local area (such as the northeast).

Personal transportation and planes become more cost effective.

So this woman was not only standing there all day smoking, but she was concealing a knife the whole time too?

You who believe that piracy is not high on the DS has really been in the dark. It is the easiest to pirate and it is quite widespread. It's on an easy to attain medium which gives a lot of control upon booting to the user.

I figure the new 3DS will be attached to an account and will take away much of that user control. The control has always been unnecessary and only has given them problems anyway.

Lol @ the 300 meter car chase... It didn't mention whether or not he himself was in the car at the time of the chase...

The reason is because people are blindly moved by mainstream news media. All people hear are the problems and the bad cases that some people are responsible for.

How often do you think news media would cover the good teachers and any progression in this area of teaching?

Yeah, I would like one of you to tell me that you've never jumped on furniture, much less beds, as a kid. Get off your high horse and recognize this as a simple freak accident.

I believe extinct mammoths and neanderthals are extinct for a good reason.

Let's see whom we currently blame for those... Oh, that's right! Humans! Is it not fine to bring back what we ourselves brought destruction to?

Uh, this story provides almost no information so we go with rampant speculation.

Yeah, but that seems to be the pastime of people on this site. Nothing new.

I see that some may blame children for driving their parents off the deep end. And then I see people blaming the parents for not teaching their children to behave correctly.

Where is the point that the parent is taught how to teach a child correctly? How many parents have been through life with at least one younger sibling, or any siblings at all to learn from? How many of their parents offered help or support?

What I am trying to say is that it is an issue of society. Without a basis on family support, it will turn out for the worst. This poor family probably was on the bad end of several bad relationships where this support and learning was not available.

I found that many girls in Japan are obsessed with the gap between their legs that result from very little fat and muscle. It starts to look quite bad when that gap looks like it's wide enough to fit another one of their stick legs.

They need to promote a healthy look instead.

I've "walked around with a knife" for 40+ years. Wonderful almost-all-purpose tool and, in a pinch, potential defensive weapon. Everybody should carry one, even if it's only one of those little Swiss Army Knives with the built-in sissors and toothpick. A knife and a means of producing fire are the original basic survival tools and still serve well today. Never be without them.

Any knife long enough to be so useful as that is illegal in Japan.

Even if a device was not made to create heat, many battery operated machines can create a fire in a contained space. Better to just put the batteries in another container.

This is similar to the oil sufficiency of the US, and asking Americans to stop driving cars. Yeah good luck with that. At least Japan here has an excuse - there's simply not much land and you can't ask people to stop eating like you can ask them to stop burning millions of barrels of oil.

I failed to see any excuse... Oil is necessary in modern America. There is no way around it other than being shot back to the iron age.

They aren't asking Japan to stop eating. They are asking them to limit the eating of certain things, especially those of which cannot maintain a healthy population.

The girl’s father Takayuki, 22, and his second son, 4, suffered from smoke inhalation and are in a serious condition in hospital, police said Wednesday morning.

Seriously, how many responses can I count that said something stupid along the lines of "how can you leave your child home alone?". Unless this article was updated with new info, I find it rather strange that the father would have suffered from smoke inhalation SOMEWHERE ELSE while the children are suffering home alone...

Now.... where were the guardians that allowed this tomfoolery to go on to begin with?

Stop blaming every incident on parents. Kids have the ability to walk home in Japan with no problem. And there is nothing wrong with that. This was just an unfortunate incident.

It is still good to know that even a 10 year old boy knows how to be a hero even when his life is in danger. May he be remembered.
