I also find it strange that he heard a scream. Was this the girl or a bystander? It's exceedingly rare for a child so young to commit suicide as they usually don't have the mental ability to consider that an option. However, accidents with children falling are far more common. And the screaming by the girl would be explained as well.

I think the issue was more about the women being bothered than there being danger for the train. I mean, a conductor can only do so much if there is a problem, it takes a good while to stop the train and if someone gets in the way, the only thing he can do is report how much splat the person made on the train... it's not like he was driving a truck.

Why the heck was he using a flash? .... IDIOT.

That flashed through my mind too...

Exactly, he wouldn't have time to swerve, or as the last resort, make the train jump over the poor kitty.

Your awesome sarcasm reflects my point 8)

Really sad - and we see this kind of accidents happening a few times a year...

Yeah, this is a norm of the world though. Nothing new, nothing special, and there is nothing we can do to stop them. We only only be careful.

To get my anger out, I would like to scream and yell at the father. Why did he leave them and go fishing. Was he selfishly trying to enjoy the holiday on his own. Well, I really don't know what went on and what the facts are.

This is an absolutely normal activity. I mean, they might have switched later on and let the wife go shopping when it was the dad's turn to play. Those who blindly place blame are fools.

I often find Japanese blogs rather mundane. They are like a journal of events. The only ones that interest me are the ones that overlap with my interests and even those are much like someone just talking about what they did, not about the subject matter.

In blogs in English, I find people often tend to branch out into being purely entertaining. They will exaggerate and ad lib to really make it funny or interesting. This can be life events or reviews or whatever. Of course, on the other end of the spectrum are the emos with strange empty poetry and sob stories... I don't even want to go there.

I wonder who was paying for her phone at the time. It doesn't say. It may have been excess usage driving up the parent's bill. Or it may have been her bill and the argument was over her simply wasting too much time on the phone as opposed to other duties.

And yet again, Japan is proving to be a country full of lunatics who can't control their emotions.

Your generalization is pretty extreme. If Japan is full of lunatics, the world is overflowing. You have to open your eyes and look at the other 99% of the people around you.

So, what makes a 22 year old girl so messed up she has to kill her father for scolding her about use of her mobile phone? He must have been a real a-hole!

It's hard to even think of something to say about this... are you siding with the crazy woman who can't have enough of her phone? A woman who is still living with her parents? This doesn't even call for a yelling, much less a stabbing, unless there is far more to this than we know (and there may have been).

"Con: smacks of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley where the government anesthetizes the masses to the point where everyone works, takes their drug, spends their money and keeps smiling"

Minority Report anyone? If certain drugs are allowed on the market, I doubt they will introduce something worse. They may even be improved health-wise by allowing production studies that would make for healthier usage.

Another stupid comment made by someone who probably wasn't even there. Maybe he was having some type of medical condition, maybe not, but a poor young girl just lost both of her parents. No need for such harsh words or rush to judgement.

Agreed. I've even come to expect the thoughtless comment every time an event like this happens. There are so many things that could have happened.

K-Cars are just cheap, well built, economic on fuel consumption but are a death trap.

I am not sure how many cars can take a head on collision safely. Even the safest common vehicles have fatalities in head on collisions.

The greatest victims are perhaps the surviving children of the couple (17 year old was just the oldest). I hope the have family or friends willing to take them in as their own. I've heard of way too many unfortunate circumstances of neglect from a fostering family.

"He was quoted by police as saying he did it because he felt frustrated after things started going badly at work."

But why is the "random" target always women and children?

"Using the child porn excuser logic, we now need to produce mangas about throwing keek, to stop men like this doing ti in real life."

I don't think we should even joke about this. It is Japan after all, probably already been done...

While this may help bring down the prices, this will also take it's toll on the production of good video games. I am in no way affected by the economy so I still buy games regularly. I feel for those less fortunate.

"More people out of the video games addiction, the better."

I don't see how this is related. I play video games all the time and buy them every now and then. I am more concerned about the truly lifeless activities like watching TV and movies. Those are the laziest things people can do; your hands are free enough for a bucket of popcorn or a bag of chips. However, the spot-light was taken away by video games because old people disliking the new stuff wanted their old time favorite past-time to look better.

"Kids should be out playing sports, keeping fit and strong. Ban video games for the under 18,s unless educational. Hope the game co0mpanies go broke."

I am guessing you are way over the hill... We are in an age of electronics and late nights. Try pitching some balls after 8pm. Also, the great majority of gamers are NOT fat. A recent study shows that the average video gamer in America has 25.2 BMI, lower than the national average in America. I, even as an avid gamer, jog 8 miles every other day. Days in between are spent at the gym weight lifting. My BMI is 18. Think about that...

Also, what if I said the same thing about books, TV, radio, and movies? BAN them all for those under 18. Unless they are educational...

BTW, what's so "educational" about football? I think video games have that beat in terms of education.

This is NOT going to help the hilarious stereotype I hear in Japan that all Americans have guns all the time like we are living in the Old West. In fact, in my 25 years in the US, I've NEVER seen a real gun in person aside from behind the counter of a sports store. And I live in "Sportsman's Paradise"!

I can't believe JT (prob just a translation of Japanese news) distinguishes the 16 "younger sister" as a younger sister. Unless there is some step-sister thing going on, they are the same age! And who would do this to their own daughter and to their twin? This is crazy.

Perhaps just another person in Japan not knowing how to vent properly. People have to learn to get some friends, lay back and chill every once in a while.

I am somewhat for it. It has to be well regulated/taxed/kept in order. Some blindly call for the complete eradication of all drugs... I find those people as bad as those for the Prohibition. Some drugs are safer and have less effects than alcohol, but retain the good feeling (this is from psychology study, not personal experience).

There will be good and bad from this. One of the main drugs in question is usually cannabis. This is currently circulated underground. It is the driving force of some crime syndicates. It makes very little money for the economy.

If it were legal, the crime involving that drug would lower. However, people may misinterpret this and think other drugs are also legal. Or they may just push on toward another illegal drug. Legalizing would bring a lot of official revenue to the government (high tax). And once it get legalized, there may be a large influx of people suddenly wanting to try it out, which may lead to people getting bored of it or giving it the same reputation as cigarettes. However, it may also push people to try out other drugs.

The outcome will only be known when/if it happens.

While I don't agree with the man, I do not believe it is a crime to say stuff, even if it did or did not happen! This is a violation of our modern idea of free speech in developed countries. This reminds me of when people were punished for saying the world was not flat or that the earth was not the center of the universe. If he believes it is true, then so be it. If someone decided to go all conspiracy theorist and said that is was the US government that took down the twin towers or that the two bombs in Japan were just some bad accident, they should be free to do so.

The court said don't do X and he did X. Simple.

Only a fool would think the courts are always right. Yeah, not following the law will get you in trouble, but think of how often a person has been thrown in jail or worse for something we take for granted now.

Japan is definitely behind the times. They still have reform school. Japan should get with it.

I think it's better than juvi. Reform schools (should) focus more on learning rather than punishment.

The fact that the minors can't get in trouble for this is troubling. I believe they should be just as responsible for a crime they are willingly doing. I certainly believe the doctor did wrong, but the girl isn't exactly white as snow...

Simple: If she is under age then she is not responsible for her actions. He should have known better.

This is one of those unfortunate easy "truths" that people like to spout. Kids are retarded until magically the whole world is revealed to them at age 18 (20?) and become capable of doing wrong.

However, it is understandable. People have no way to prove things one way or another so we set rules, rules where individual circumstances are too troublesome to go through each time. "Minors" have the ability to scheme and do wrong, but we have been shaped by the government to think otherwise. Many 22 year olds have the same mindset as any teen, yet they are not given that same benefit of the doubt.

Still it continues to irk me that people believe the convenient justice system and the magic of "turning of age." 18 (20?) is way too late for some kids, way too early for others; I don't even believe that's a good average. It's just the law and has little to do with what they knew better or not.

This goes beyond my comprehension. Weird and random. Strangely, the weird stories we get from Japan news is sorta what draws me to reading these. Other countries... same ol' murders or violence. This place... random!

WTH? Again, may we PLEASE see a re-evaluation of the Japanese laws that prohibit bystanders from intervening when they see a crime in progress? I should hope that SOMEONE would have jumped on this looney tune after he assaulted the first girl, if only they didn't have to worry about being prosecuted

I could not agree more! I don't know if I'd bother caring about the stupid laws if I witnessed that. I'd take him down and confess Japanese style, "It was a good idea at the time. / It happened before I knew it"

wow this tough guy puts rambo to shame, unarmed 6 and 7 year old girls.

So, let that be a lesson to everyone. If you sleep on the road some trout will run you over without a second thought and no remorse. Cool!

If I ran some idiot sleeping in the middle of the road at night where it was probably not well lit since it was in a park... I'd feel little remorse for a guy practically committing suicide. Right out of the gene pool.

How fast was she going if she killed him?

If you are simply talking about killing a person, the speed doesn't matter much when it is a car vs a sleeping man on the ground. She could have even been traveling a sound 15 mph (24 kph) and it would still have been fatal.

If this man was in a full suit or business attire, he'd have been all the harder to see since there would be little contrast.

If only she had stopped... probably would have turned out in her favor.

It doesn't matter what the outcome is, a mistake is a mistake. It everything turns out ok, it is a mistake... if it turns into a disaster, it's still a mistake.

Kids do stupid things and learn from mistakes... it's part of growing up. MOST boys have endangered someone's life with their antics at some point in their teenage life, either with driving, making dangerous dares, doing something that they thought would be good at the time, etc. If you don't realize this either you are too old to remember, you are not a guy, or you are just dense. I sure as hell had my moments when I was a teenager...

This kid should be dealt with strictly, but nothing more than that. Remove privileges or put him on some kind of community service (do they have that in Japan?). Nothing more.
