I expected as much to happen. I am not mad at republicans, however, for their decisions and neither is President Obama. I will give him credit for his character if anything. He is at least trying to keep his word. I fear however, that his big problem is probably his own party who refuse to play ball with the president and his new rules.

Yeah, he did. But he did so on principle. Republicans generally hate mass amounts of spending and want to see atleast 40% of the bill be done in Tax cuts. Everyone generally agrees that the bill will create more jobs, no doubt, but the right is concerned that it will come to slow. Also, there is a big fear that once the jobs created are cut back on, there won't be a huge private sector base to fall back on. A legitimate concern. One way or the other though, at least Obama is trying to keep good on some of his promises. I ain't naive enough to believe he will keep them all, he is a politician after all. It seems that he is actually getting a headache from his fellow Dems. Pelosi was peeved when Obama cut out the 225 million for some type of family care thing or something.

I think that this is a wise move by President Obama. Al Queda and the Taliban can feel their foundation rocking beneath their feet. In truth, they would have loved to have McCain in the office instead of Obama. They have been quoted as saying that a republican president would continue Bush's policy in the Middle East of Shoot First, Shoot Later, Shoot Some more, and then ask questions. With Obama going on Arabic TV and addressing the Middle East personally as a representative of mankind and not the head of a seemingly oppressive superpower, he has rocked the terrorist base even more. If they don't have the support of the people, then they are as good as dead.

I agree that there are numerous reasons for an abortion. I, reluctantly, would be in favor of a woman getting an abortion if her life was in jeopardy or she was raped and is now carrying the rapist's child(the latter is pretty rare given the fact that most women are given a rape kit and treated for VD and pregnancy when a rape occurs). However, an abortion simply for convenience is detestable. If one doesn't want a child, then take preventative measures to avoid having one. Don't lie on your back with your legs open, get pregnant, and decide to have an abortion because you didn't think that it could happen to you or it wasn't in the plan. That is just down right irresponsible and barbaric.

I agree. The time line that some right wingers are giving Obama is absurd and unfair. It took 8 years for the US to get where it is now and these guys are giving Obama a hard time for not undoing these things in less than 1 week. Luckily, however, their thoughts don't resonate with the majority of Americans who are willing to give President Obama two years at the least and his whole first term at the most to get things done.

Those definitions are just a way for people to ease their mind about the issue. I have spent enough time studying the sciences to know whats what. I can name the different stages of pregnancy from the time the egg is fertilized to birth. This still doesn't change the fact that I find the whole process rather disturbing. Regardless of what stage it is in when it is aborted, it doesn't change the fact that it would have eventually become human.

I voted for Obama because I thought his policies to be more in tune with the times, but this is and has always been one thing that I wish Dems. would leave alone. I find myself actually praising George Bush on this issue. I can't stand abortion. The mere thought of it sickens me to my stomach. What if the father of the child wants the baby? What then? Does the woman kill it anyway? She may be carrying it, but Scientifically, the baby is as much his as it is hers. I saw an interview with Obama about this very issue. As much as this issue pains me, I will have to say that I give him the benefit of the doubt because he seems to understand that if a woman really wants an abortion, she will find ways to get it done.

Ah, but lets not forget who started this massive spending crap...cough Bush cough Dick Cheney cough. I was shocked when the first bailout got passed to the greedy fat cats on Wall Street. Now it is just a slippery slope of cutting checks. Where is my check dammit!?
The big problem with this package is that it might move to slow to pick us up out of the recession. On that, I agree with the Republicans. On the other hand, if the recession is slated to end within 2 years anyway, it makes one question the point of trying to do something about it now. Perhaps Obama is trying to do what FDR did...Keep things from getting worse than they are.

Yes, it is about doing what is morally right, I agree. But, I was merely speaking on the possible effects that closing Gitmo could have since some on this board seem to think nothing good or beneficial can come from it.

Ah, nice to see some of these right wingers coming out of the wood work to rant.
Let me make this clear, I am not on the side of the far left or right. Rather I am a man who walks down the middle. Conservative on some issues and Liberal on others. I see this as a good move. If you look back in history, you will see that benevolence rules over malice any day. Take Darius the great as an example. Hatred breeds more hatred and two wrongs don't make a right.
This maybe a PR move by the President, and I myself believe that it was a little hasty. However, the overall goodwill that it brings with it overshadows the negatives. With more goodwill, Obama gets more power and influence to get some of our allies back and to make it harder for our allies to say no to his requests.

How soon we forget the likes of Andrew Johnson, James Buchanan, and Cleveland's Second term. Even bush got more than 48 hours before he was pelted with tomatoes and eggs. Give it a rest.
