"Arabs see hope in Obama"
poor smithinjapan thinks the thread is about technology:"Hahaha... not even close, especially since much of American technology is borrowed from Japan and hardly created in its own country."
it will be centuries before canada, australia, england, germany or france elect an obama-like figure to lead their nations.
thus, the arab world still looks to America and beseeches its new president to help undo the wrongs europe did them.

his speaking style will be an easy target. the fake folksy tone he insults 'bitter' and 'clingy' white people with and the equally fake 'ivy league but black like you' schtick he pulls in places like philadelphia and detroit.
his conservative colleagues at harvard law dinner parties played a game in which every time obama said 'folks' you had to take a drink.

"An Arab news network blared U.S. election coverage in a Cairo hair salon, and the barbers and beauticians watched the images of Barack Obama’s victory in amazement."
you could easily remove cairo and substitute ottawa, canberra, wellington, london, paris, berlin, rome, madrid etc and this would still apply.
they are all decades, centuries actually, behind the United States of America.

if japanese (and pro-obama gaijin) think having more young and unemployed Americans turning up on these shores seeking gainful employment then yes, obama is good for japan.

i guess what the reactionary euros here are indirectly complaining about is how with this obama chap winning the presidency of the the most powerful nation on earth and in all of history the minorities in their countries are going to be expecting the same should possible in any western nation calling itself a democracy .
once again, America raises the bar...
