I sat through this film today. Oh dear. Not very good, I'm afraid.

Yes I can go for a walk every day - and do. But I can't go water-skiing every day, or save the world from a horde of Zombies, or be james Bond every day.
It's not an either/or question, Mr. Chester. It is possible to have a full and varied social life, take part in athletic activities and have a muck-about on the Wii as well.
I'd love to see this bloke going away on holiday. "But I can't go to the beach - I'm driving a car".

But it is culture. (Fingers in ears) Lalalalalalalallalalalalala Ican't hear you lalalalalalalala. It is culture.
That concludes this week's seminar in Japanese debating skills.

Ken was in Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, too, but that really was arsegravy of the the very weakest calibre.

I tried eating one of these things. I had to spend the next ten minutes looking for some dogdirt to take the taste away. And spicy? Spicy like a fingernail.

How very innovative. I wonder if he could master the skills required for such demanding work. Can he eat food, or watch other people do so? Can he laugh and clap when something asinine is done or said? Can he nod agreement at all times from a small box in the corner of the screen?
Unless his agent is sure he's up to the challenge of such arduous, skilful work, he shouldn't risk the immutable dignity of his client by putting him into the elite of japanese entertainment superstars.

Molenir - "It" in this article is the failure of the bill to gain sufficient support to be enacted. Because the Republicans voted it down. How is that Obama's fault?

Woman - no it isn't. It's the outsiders (nice feudal turn of phrase there) making a documentary about what the Taiji fishermen do, and the Taiji fishermen are so proud of their great culture that they don't want any of their countrymen to know about it.

Love that way of thinking. It's perfectly OK for ultra-nationalists to prevent anyone from seeing an award-winning documentary, because it has the "wrong" set of values.
Think about this for a minute: is Ric O'Barry talking about compelling anyone to watch this film? No.
This is supposed to be a democracy, wherein citizens are free to make informed judgements. But because knee-jerk victims decide to call this film "Japan-bashing" (a very lazy argument indeed), they have the right to prevent any other taxpayer from choosing whether or not to watch it.
Now does that sound like anyone imposing a set of views?

Cool Biz is a step in the right direction, but until someone can persuade the bloodless spinsters who infest so many offices here that you don't have to swaddle yourselves in blankets when the temperature drops below 28 for the simple reason that IT IS NOT COLD, then there is going to be nothing but sweating blokes and nothing being done.
Hey maybe that's it - maybe the ladies get a kick out of being surrounded by sweaty men?

I'm going, if we're ever offered the opportunity to view an Oscar-winning film and make up our own minds about it.
Trouble is, it looks like the powers that be don't trust us to reach the right decision when given the information.
Don't look at that, don't think about it. Japan Bashing, poor lickle japan, aww boo hoo.
Grow up. Face criticism like adults, not like the kid in the park who takes his football home when he starts losing.

What a surprise - one-trick pony on the way out. If only all the buffoons who clot up TV screens had such a limited shelf life. Counting to three with a silly voice, or being overweight is not an inexhaustible laugh riot.

I love this proud tradition, which is so chest-puffin', tear-jerkin' traditional that a) nobody knew about it until the barbarians made this film and b) has to be carried out under media blackout and cover of tarpaulin.
Why would we want TV shows extolling this great tradition, when we can watch people cooking omelette every night and clapping?

Mod - let's get this clear.
Have plans to distribute the movie been dropped (and therefore it cannot be seen in Tokyo, or has only one cinema decided not to show it?
Please clarify.

Remember the line from South Park:
Matthew Broderick: "My wife is a beautiful woman and I know most people would agree with me."
Interviewer: "How come a transvestite donkey witch is standing next to you, and why is it wearing a dress?"
