As an avid SF fan for many years, I fully support the ideas of SETI and its search for ET. The question of SETI's search and ET's search for us is another question I wonder about. By calculating the possibility of there being ETs in the billions on planets everywhere in the universe, why haven't we been contacted already? Certainly, sighting of UFOs have not turned up any true contacts but just stories. The so called Goldylocks zones of planets may be so numerous that we can't imagine how many there may be. If there are ETs on those planets who have highly evolved as we have and even beyond us, why have they not contacted us already. Why must we be the first to contact them? Wouldn't they be thinking the same thing?

Well that's the way the osembe crumbles. I imagine the theaters will be empty as usual. I hope they don't dub it into Japanese.

Rather late but wouldn't paper milk cartons that I see all over the place been more appropriate for these kids? I suppose they've now gone to them. No use crying over spilled milk.

I've heard that many hit and run accidents were because the driver was drinking and believes that if he sobers up the next day, he won't be charged very much. Some even wait until they sober up, then turn themselves in.

About 70% of the movies playing are of Japanese origin now. Many US ones are dubbed which takes time. Kadokawa and associates want to squeeze all they can out of the imports. Movie theaters as we know charge a lot here. The Avengers hasn't even been seen on tv commercials yet. They are playing it safe but they are Japanese and they are great delayers as we all know.

The author is probably refering to TV or a PC. Getting interested in what's on the tube or PC may give the brain a wake up jolt which is to avoid going to sleep.

A discussion on why the bears were not tranquilized rather than shoot to kill orders by hunters was take up by several Japanese this morning. Many said there were no tranquilizer guns available or the city/prefecture couldn't afford them. Many did not even think about how poorly the bears were kept or cared less. Isn't there an ASPCA like organization that monitors these poorly caged up animals here?

Not that these "Picasso burgers” are all bad. It's just going to McD and getting a cheese1/4 lb. taking it home, putting lettuce, tomatoe, mayo and sliced raw onion with some mustard, ketchup and a little relish on the bun. My only complaint is that the buns are often too small. I need to find a Wendy's near me to try one out for kicks.

Not always do they have both English/Japanese versions. It depends on the type "they" believe Japanese viewers would go to see.

Yeah. Dubbing English into Japanese is just great for the Japanese. Hope they keep an English version around for the foreigners here.

It's certainly true that there are wild drivers of all sorts here in Japan. Scooters, motorcycles and vehicles of all sorts. As a scooter rider and car driver, I see all sorts of dangerous moves on the road evey day. However, it seems like a Japanese standard to avoid checking if the person hit on the road could be helped or not. And by turning oneself over to the cops later, you can avoid punishment or some sort. If the truck driver thought he'd hit someone, why didn't he stop to confirm whether the person needed an ambulance? All that being said, Japanese traffic is conciderably heavier than in the US generally. There are good drivers here and the worst as in every country. There are more traffic lights than may be necessary and this can in itself cause frustration to drivers who want to make the light before it changes. One more point to think about. I wonder if anyone who had witnessed the accident called the cops to report the truck barrelling away from the scene.

Traffic control is mostly relegated to the motorcycle cops. Those on foot will only stop a bicycle or two a day to look like they are doing their job. It's mostly a gesture to expose themselves to the public making them look busy. They love to ride around in their patrol cars flashing their red lights and using taxpayers gasoline which costs them nil. On the whole, they are probably nice guys and that's about it.
