Cletus, you're right. But the thumb-downers here are only hungry for blood-vengence and have no concept of justice or the rule of law.

What should also be noted about Foreign Aid is that the US has long given aid(YOUR tax dollars) to numerous brutal dictatorships, as well as to Israel, playing both ends against the middle. Those supported dictatorships include: Egypt(under Mubarek and still), Syria, Libya, Iraq(under Hussein), Iran(under the Shah), several Central American regimes as well, such as under Pinochet.
So Foreign Aid has in fact bank-rolled all those dictatorships. Is it any wonder the blowback of 9-11 happened? That doesn't justify it, of course, but there was even ample warning.

It was an extrajudicial killing. That's an internationally recognized crime. Was he guilty? Probably. The US used to represent good things, as written in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, but has strayed very far from the precepts that made it great. Herve, you are very correct about the Rule of Law. Since AUMF and PATRIOT Act were passed, the US has rapidly descended the slippery-slope into tyranny. It's really the biggest tragedy of all.

It's not really that the yen is strong, but that the USD and Euro are so weak due to currency manipulation/devaluation by the repeated QE and continued printing of paper money, which is not really so different from outright counterfeiting. This only benefits those who get the fresh currency hot off the press. By the time it gets into people's hands, it's already lost more value. FIAT does just mean Fix It Again Tony.

Japan needs to step up to the plate to provide its own autonomous self-defense again. Time to wean off the US teat. The fact remains that the US can ill-afford its current obligations, not to mention the pending war with Iran. The phrase "not worth a Continental" will make a resurgence .

The Tokyo bureaucrats have never given a rip on issues that affect local residents anywhere, much like the DC bureaucrats. It's a result of highly centralized government. Thuggery.
The Okinawans have long protested the continued occupation, and will continue to do so. The Tokyo bureaucrats continue to turn a deaf ear.
Realign the bases, to Guam or Alaska.

All the haters here need to get off their high horses. The young man made some mistakes, one of which may have been enlisting in the first place. I said MAY have been. The first confirmed mistake was his apparent choice of friends, namely the one who allegedly stole something, putting this young man on the hook. It all went downhill from there for him. As forgiving as some of the posters here have been is the tip of the iceberg he got from USMC. It's no wonder he had self-destructive thoughts. Had he sought help, he would have still been stigmatized. The best mistake he made was NOT being successful at taking his life.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

What I think is interesting is that despite the so-called "mainstream" media doing everything they can to marginalize or outright ignore Ron Paul, his support base has grown significantly. Just compare his numbers from 2008 to this time. And he's the only candidate that appeals to voters regardless of their party affiliation. Jon Stewart very rightly mocked the media(ALL OF THEM) after the 'coverage' of the Iowa caucus. Sadly, a large portion of the electorate only know what the MSM tells them.

@herefornow Your request for numbers is duly noted. Why don't you take that survey for action yourself. Start by asking those who are directly affected by the bases in question. Pretty sure the Okinawans wouldn't mind bending your ear. The Philippines made it clear years ago, and they haven't been overrun by the Chinese. While you're at it, ask the Iraqis and the Afgans. Why doesn't the US have a base in Israel to defend them? Isn't Israel under threat of attack? My main point is that the US can't afford the global empire. In addition, the action is unnecessary. Each nation is responsible for their own defense. The Soviets were bankrupted by their occupations, as were numerous empires before them. If it's your desire that the US empire should go the way of the other empires, then just continue as is. When I say "Yankees go home ", don't think it's hateful because it's quite the opposite. I hope the US turns itself around and is restored to its former greatness, the Land of Liberty, as intended by the Founders. I'm pro-American as the original Patriots were, not as the recent administrations(since at least Wilson) have "searching abroad for monsters to destroy". Restore Liberty.

Yankees go home! That seems to be the consensus of citizens/residents of the various nations with a significant US military presence. Transfer them to Guam, Alaska, or Anytown USA to defend the "homeland". If you look at the Philippines, they did the right thing for themselves by not renewing the SOFA. The US can no longer afford so many occupation bases in other countries, and they are generally unwelcome by the populations.

Good on the woman! Part of the problem with newer card these days, especially in US/CAN is the infinite regulations. All the extra mandatory equipment adds a lot of weight to the cars and hampers fuel economy. Back in 1985, I bought a Chevy Sprint(made by Suzuki). It was about the size of Nissan March or Ford Focus. With its 3-cylinder normally aspirated engine and reasonable driving technique I easily got over 50mpg. Hands down the best value for the money.

Whichever establishment candidate gets selected is irrelevant. The survival of the US ( and EU for that matter ) rests on economic policies. Unless the masses wean themselves off the socialist teat programs, the economies will continue their downward spiral. As Margaret Thatcher once said, Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money. Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, and Obama only know how to spend others' money. Say NO to all of them.

Hate to break it to you, folks, but Viking68 is correct on this. Don't take my word, or any bloggers' word, but rather take the time to read some scientific reports. If INJESTED it is a concern, as in foods, but unless one spends A LOT of time licking the concrete there's effectively no risk. The workers mixing and pouring the concrete, however, may have inhaled particles.
