In Korea the kids kill themselves because they're excessively pushed to study and achieve academically.

In Japan the kids kill themselves because they're being bullied.

In both cases, it's so sad and tragic.

But of course it was for the greater good. I mean he's a Kennedy; his future in politics had to be saved at any cost for the good of the country... : )

I hope you were being facetious.

Teddy Kennedy ... remembered for the 'dream he kept alive' ... and given a pass for the woman he left to die in his submerged car ...

They now go after bar staff for serving people they know are going to drink and drive why not apply the same sort of logic to this scenario and go after the pachinko parlours.

Yes, because the bar staff KNOWS that the person has drunk too much.

But how does the pachinko parlor staff know that one of the players has left a baby outside in the car?

Another one! What a wonderful thing Pachinko is.

I think pachinko is stupid ... but blaming pachinko for the mother's horribly irresponsible behavior is ridiculous.

What if it had been a supermarket parking lot? Does that mean we should speak out against grocery shopping?

The person in the audience who asked about Obama tags is an idiot.

We should be focusing on Obama's weak foreign policy, and his disastrous economic and social policies.

Idiotic comments like this "tags" thing only give him an out and let him use it as a distraction.

I challenge all those on here who criticize the man to show me someone who is NOT flawed or made some mistakes

I have never left anyone to suffocate to death while submerged in the back seat of my car, especially while waiting for hours and hours to bother getting help. And then used my powerful family connections to escape legal justice for it.

Nor have I enabled the slaughter of millions of unborn babies with my legislative votes.

And yet still some Rightists on here -- despite the majority of the Republican party paying tribute -- take the time to try and find ways to undermine the man's career, and insult his person. Amazing.

You are so right. Shame on us for mentioning his culpability in a young woman's death, or his enabling of the slaughter of unborn babies, or his drunkenness, or his philandering, or any of the other things that would have killed his political career if he had been a conservative Republican. Or a non-Kennedy.

Fact is, this man rode his family coattails all through his career. The otherwise good people of Massachusetts were idiotic for continuing to re-elect this man.

To get my anger out, I would like to scream and yell at the father. Why did he leave them and go fishing.

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone on this board blamed the father. Anti-male sexism is such an acceptable form of bias in our society.

270 people did not get to die with dignity, because of that bastard.

Americans won't understand this, but showing "mercy" to this man opens a path to dialogue and closure. Guilty or not, Scotland has chosen to show some great kindness to this man. Acting out of feelings of revenge, anger or hate never benefits anybody. The world would be a much better place, if more people chose compassion and empathy, over revenge and anger.

It is not about anger or revenge.

It is about justice -- a word which, curiously, does not appear anywhere in your message.

For all these years in prison, he was fed and clothed and housed and kept alive. He was also given medical treatment.

For what he did, pal, that's "mercy" enough.

This man doesn't need our mercy anyway. He needs God's mercy now. He needs it a LOT. .

And why are guys expected to "score points" with the women in their lives? If a woman expects a man to "score points" with her, as if it's a frequent-flyer program with sex as the reward, then she's not really a woman. She's a little girl inhabiting an adult female body. She's even a prostitute of sorts.

So, women can be corporate CEOs and space-shuttle pilots and hold high political office and even command armies -- but we are too "girly" to deal with a little bug in the house?

This whole idea that men have to deal with the bugs, while the women cower on the sofa and go "eek!", is incredibly sexist. Toward BOTH genders.

Religious clothing and jewelry should not be banned unless there is a clear, pressing public need to do so. For instance, if a woman wears a burqa and it's thus impossible to identify her on a driver's license or other form of ID. Only in such cases should a person be told that they have to TEMPORARILY remove the clothing or jewelry.

Posted in: In some countries, there is a ban on adults and children wearing religious clothing and symbols such as burqas, veils, head scarves, skullcaps, turbans and crucifixes in public places like schools, recreational facilities and so on. What's your stance?

If people are allowed to trade in species such as bluefin tuna, then there is a financial incentive to make sure the species doesn't die out.

Take a look at the list of animals that are owned by humans -- such as cows, chickens, sheep, and so on. Ever wonder why none of these animals is, or ever will be, on the endangered-species list?

another student had asked if the U.S. and the West felt a need to apologize to the people of Congo for colonialism and post-colonial interference.

Good point. In the interest of avoiding "post-colonial interference," maybe we should stop sending billions of dollars in aid to Africa.

Especially since most of that money never seems to help anybody out of poverty -- it's used instead by the "leaders" to build themselves palaces and buy themselves new fleets of Benzes.

She is secretary of state now -- our country's top diplomat. She should not be so testy when answering questions by university students in another country. She should grow up and remember that, as our country's top diplomat, it's not just about her or her feelings. The whole Obama administration seems to be reminded, in fact, that it's not just about themselves and their own feelings.

If you don't like Japan's attitude toward homosexuality, you can always go home. It's an exercise in cultural arrogance to try to remake Japan into a Western image ... even when it comes to something "politically correct" like homosexuality.

I hope she’s not as fat as the other one was; then maybe I’ll have a fighting chance.

Is it just me? Or is the author who champions "acceptance" and "open-mindedness" displaying an intolerant attitude toward "fat" people?

I just love how pro-gay people demand tolerance from others, while refusing to extend it to others.
