You said: "This is why there are eco-terrorists and those who cheer them on as heroes. Do you really need somone to explain "legal authority" to you?"
No I'd like to show that you understand what you are saying and/or implying. Also, that you glean the irony of of what you said when you consider legal vs. illegal actions by nation states.

what do you mean by legal authority Ossan? Can you give an example? Would the legal authority that the US exerted to bomb Iraq back to the stone age be the kind of authority you mean?
Elsewhere I noted that Bethune's plight is likely to make him a martyr in many people's eyes. A rather weak reply by one contributor was to equate martyrdom with Jihad-ism ( and doing so calling the mythical figure Jesus a jihad-ist).
The poorly considered comments of the whale-slaughter supporters here are quite laughable.

The question is interesting though isn't it? why do SO MANY NJs in Japan (including those of us with Permanent Residency, or those returned home after years in Japan) feel the need to constantly put down all things Japan. And isn't it interesting that it grows the more time one spends here (there)?
I suspect that it is a reaction to the CONSTANT us vs. them attitude the Japanese media bombard the public with. The indoctrinated xenophobia, the desire to see bullies and prideful have their fall.

@hobbys, Glenn Inwood is a long time PR guy - much disliked in his native land and recently caught impersonating a NZ government official in Oz. His profession is PR - that means that he lies for a living. Stunning as his audience are mostly GenXers who for the most part are immune to PR being the generation most exposed to it as the art grew.
Hilarious that they sprayed themselves and then tried to shift blame... care to think again on the who rammed who debate? One side: known liars, the other side boat-rammed eco-warriors.

would love to have seen him put takanohana in his place in the dohyo... sumo seems so boring without him now... well done to the normal ranting from the stereotypical Japanese kicking him now he is gone.. how utterly normal of you.

I am sure that all of the kind hearted permanent residents living here in Japan would be happy to have their taxes increased to look after these precious keepers of Japan's old ways. And the great thing is that there is no need to ask them as in Japan they can be taxed without representation. Yay! more old people!

Sirgamble...really you're not an expert? Actually we mended the hull of an A-Class catamaran once by essentially 'gluing' it back together... or a high-tech version of. The problem is that the stresses involved require the kind of intrinsic strength found in single-molded sides, hulls, etc. Also weight becomes a factor when repairing them. But, yeah, you could glue it back together for puttering around the bay...
