That didn't sound racist, Frank. I do, however, disagree. You have no facts or figures to back up that statement, because it's patently untrue.
It's hard to figure out who's going to win. Obama has been an empty promise. Romney is an empty suit. I expect Ron Paul will be on the ballot, but who knows whose vote he'll split.

Agreed with all about about smartphone vs. camera. The article says little about the fantastic new DSLRs that have been introduced in the last couple of months. The Canon 5DMkIII is a fantastic camera that also does world-class video, and the new Nikon D800 is, from what I've read so far, good enough to make photographers think twice about dropping $40 or $50K on a medium-format digital.
The image sensors in smartphones will continue to improve, but size limitations on the sensors and lenses are going to be hard to overcome.

Paul, do you think people in Tokyo started spending more because these three shopping centers have opened? I can't see how. Do you think these shopping centers created jobs? Possibly, but only if the new structures house more businesses than the structures they replaced.
It's hard to imagine new shopping centers being anything but a zero-sum gain.

You know and I know that these engineers don't give a flip about China. They wanted work, couldn't find it in Japan, went where they could find it. That's all.

The latest reports say there are 3 winning tickets. I don't think there will be a problem with claiming the winnings in time.

I watched a good bit of his round on Saturday and was really impressed. He went through a long stretch of missing fairways as often as he hit them. No more - he's looking sharp. And his putting is just about back to where it was when he was making everything.
A telling moment yesterday was when he was teeing off on the 15th. Someone nearby (not in the gallery around the tee) yelled when Tiger was in the middle of his swing. He flinched, and the ball went way out of bounds. He ended up taking a double bogey on the hole. He was fuming as he walked up the fairway after teeing off again, but when he got to his ball, you could almost see him let it go. And he was fine after that. A year ago, he would have gone off the rails.
Having said all that, Sunday is when we'll know if he's really back.

Kiskipuich, if you go back and read the article, you'll see that this technology was developed by scientists in Slovakia and Spain. You're entitled to your opinion, but it loses some of its value when you use something completely irrelevant to try to support it.

Seeing the commercials on U.S. television for this movie, I still didn't have a clue what it was about. I haven't seen the movie, but I can say that the marketing didn't help.

It's easy to understand the constructors complaining about cost, but it's Formula One. If they can't afford it, they can go to another series with spec cars.

This is all well and good, but shouldn't the engine makers (GE, Rolls Royce, Pratt & Whitney) be leading the way? The aircraft companies don't make the engines, they buy them.

It sounds like most of the available jobs will be on the ground, edojin.
It was clear from the beginning that Tokyo Sky Tree would generate some jobs. I'll be interested to see if it costs any jobs at Tokyo Tower.

A survey is no more than an excuse for teachers and administrators to absolve themselves of all responsibility. "No bullying was reported, so we knew nothing about it!"
The fact is, if the teachers and administrators have any involvement with their students, they already know who the bullies are. Either they're too cowardly to do anything about it, or they tacitly condone it.

The article mentions early on Taniguchi-san's soul searching about whether or not to go on with manga. It eventually brings out his decision to go on, but doesn't tell us if he's doing anything differently after the triple disaster, or if he's carrying on with the same subject matter. I would have liked to have heard about this, as it would tell us even more about the man. (Sorry, JT, I know this is an AFP article - their reporter could have done a better job.)

@LoveNot: there is no formal immunity for members of Congress. They are technically living under the same laws as the rest of the public here in the States. Realistically, however, it's unusual for members of Congress to be arrested for anything.
They went into this on the same terms as Mr. Clooney - they expected to be arrested.
There's nothing wrong with peaceful protest. But, as mentioned in the story, the police had set up a limit for the protesters. They warned the protesters 3 times not to cross the line, the protesters crossed it, they were arrested. This is not unusual in the U.S. - protesters sometimes deliberately defy the police in order to get arrested and call attention to their cause. This is no different than in most other civilized countries.
