I've been lucky enough to visit Himeji and Matsumoto. After that, visiting a place like Nagoya or Osaka is best thought of as a trip to a castle-shaped museum.

Most people here in the States believe that the death penalty is called for in at least some cases. For someone like this, who terrorized a region over a period of time and killed completely random victims, there certainly is no sense of mercy or compassion or forgiveness. Society wanted its pound of flesh, and it got it last night.
Those of you who don't believe in the use of the death penalty: I don't agree with you, but I can see the point you're making. I will always believe there's a place for it, when used judiciously. I can't think of a more appropriate scenario for its use than in this case.

$100 million seems like a lot to pay for the opportunity to have the drivers call your tires "rubbish".
Agreed, DXXJP - the Abu Dhabi facility looked like a fantasy track in a racing video game. Spectacular.

The Phils were very much in this series until Damon stole second, then third. That play has "game over" written all over it.

I'm not at all happy that the Phillies got beat last night, but that's a separate issue...
Kudos to the umps for going to the replay and making the right call on that home run. I have to wonder, though... who decided it was OK to set up a camera that intruded on the field of play?

@Sarge: The Yankees are great, and so are the Phils. This should be a fantastic series.

For those who missed it, ANA will be operating a modern Boeing 767 in the old livery. They won't be digging up 707's and DC-6's.

No company that's already on the web will abandon their latin-alphabet URL. But they will have to register their native alphabet URL. This will be a bonanza for registrars.

Asimo is cool, but it's been around for quite a few years now. I'm waiting for the next step in its evolution.

Funny, Conde Nast must have forgotten to ask me about the fine business hotel in Kayabacho where I stay when I'm in Tokyo. Right on top of Kayabacho-no-eki, a block from a Lawson's, right around the corner from a great udon joint. Fridge in every room, high-speed internet, Kirin Ichiban for 250 a can out of the vending machine by the elevators!
Oh yeah - and about 1/5 the price of a bare-bones cheap room at the Ritz Carlton. So I can spend my money on travel and sightseeing, instead of a place where I spend maybe 9 hours a day, 7 of them while asleep.

The average size of Honda cars may not have increased in Japan. In the U.S., we've only recently added the Fit and the re-designed Insight. Yes, both are small, but the average size of Honda models in the U.S. has definitely increased.
I've been driving Hondas for 20 years and have seen them increase in size (while I have not). I love my RSX, but I think my next go-round will be something more along the lines of a Fit - small, practical, and (marginally) sporty.

Mr. Brown clearly has the technical chops to paint anything that comes into his head. That he chose to put bondage gear on a teddy bear and a swastika on a loli-goth tells me that he believes sensationalism is the only way he'll get attention. That his chosen style leans more toward basic illustration may just confirm that opinion.

Personally, I wish Honda models weren't increasing in size year after year. They're giving up their legacy of efficiency (and gas mileage, by the way). My '92 Civic Si hatchback got 40 mpg on the highway. That was with a 126 horsepower 1.6 liter engine and no hybrid technology. It was also screaming quick, handled like a go-kart and didn't break - I had exactly one problem in the 5 years I owned it, and that was fixed under warranty.
My '02 Acura RSX Type-S has all the above attributes, with a 2.0 liter, 200 horsepower engine, but it gets 32 mpg on the highway. In 10 years, what is essentially the same underlying model has gained 500 pounds. The current Honda/Acura models are getting bigger every time I look.
I have no illusions of Honda reversing course with its current models, but I hope they'll consider giving us some more compact and efficient new models, and soon.

No biggie. I'd be willing to bet that most of the people bitching about the delays have waited longer in line for a roller coaster.
@memyselfI: "I hope someone will create a new mass transit system." Well, if one of the best mass transit systems in the world ain't good enough for ya, maybe you should consider working from home.
