@Frungy: Movies made in weeks? Seems to me that it takes weeks just to render all the frames, to say nothing of how long it takes to design and (virtually) construct everything that makes up those frames. None of these animated movies are simple endeavors.
I don't think there's a cabal of Hollywood producers plotting to eliminate the need for actors, as you seem to suggest. The paying public still likes seeing movie stars.

I think westerner hit the nail on the head. While it would be nice to do something creative with this situation, the realities of time, money and equipment hold sway. Although the Skylifter idea sounds very reasonable - an aircraft like that could do a lot of good, and pretty quickly at that.

Ignoring all the hyperbole from both sides for the moment, I think this stattement from TEPCO is the best thing they've done since 3.11. This is the first time they've sounded like adults speaking to adults.

Even if both ladies are comfortable with so familiar a greeting, I'm surprised the IHA allowed it to take place in front of the cameras.

@fds: They could do these concerts anywhere, but to stage them in Japan means a lot both symbolically and financially. Getting people who have money to spend in support of people who have lost everything will bolster everyone's spirits.
Once Fukushima is sealed off and radiation is no longer a threat, I hope concerts like this will be staged in Sendai.

If reactors 5 and 6 are undamaged, it would be nuts to abandon them. Two reasons: these things cost a fortune to build, and Japan needs all the electricity it can get. If you're nervous about it, I imagine they would be happy to build a 20 meter wall around it.

It's an apt comparison. Hopefully, when the city of Fukushima recovers, they'll build a shrine to these workers.

Thank goodness for Japan's sense of community involvement, and for their general good behavior. I believe they'll handle this crisis better than most countries would.

Alphawolf, some people are interested in history, even if what they learn can't really be applied to present-day life. Sometimes knowledge is its own reward.

Luckily, I haven't had to use taxis too often in Tokyo. Haven't had any problems, either. Himeji, on the other hand... I gave the driver the address and a map. He was so far off that even I knew we were going the wrong way, and I'd never been in town before. He knocked down the fare and helped with my bags, though.

@BurakuminDes: you've seen the Bose noise-canceling headphones? This works on the same concept, but with only particular sounds made by the camera itself.
@haruka: this has nothing to do with stopping the camera from making noise. It's about preventing the camera from recording those noises when making a movie.

With a wide-angle lens like the one he's using (and it may even be a full-frame fisheye), depth of field isn't so much an issue. Focus to 10 feet at f/8 and everything's in focus.
