I'm surprised no one else has noticed that the frame of the vehicle appears to be painted with the same lacquer they use all over Buddhist temples.

Those are some big freakin' bows. Fitting, I suppose, if they're aiming at targets 60 meters away. I wonder how many hit the target?

Um, folks? Since their defeat, they are no longer called "Imperial Stormtroopers". They are now known as the "Galactic Self-Defense Force", or GSDF.

Without feeding the trolls on the right or left... Mr. Obama was doing what presidents have always done, going back to the Civil War. Whether the troops voted for him or not, it's still a pretty big deal to meet the president. And the fact that it's a great photo op for the president is lost on no one.

A side note: In addition to her late husband's parents, Maryville, TN has a small Japanese population connected to a few Japanese-owned manufacturing facilities. Hotaru-san will have plenty of support when she comes home to Tennessee.

Meaning what? Watergate was exposed by a ton of investigative journalism. Deep Throat didn't just dump a truckload of documents at the doorstep of the Washington Post.
I personally don't think Wikileaks is guilty of anything, but the people who gave them this information are guilty as hell. Nor do I think that Wikileaks has anything to do with journalism. They're just providing a billboard on which to paste up what is supposed to be classified information.

No argument that the Cold War is over. Still, a surprising comment given the current state of affairs in Korea.
Posted in: It's time to reset the alliance. The Japan-U.S. relationship was put together as a product of the Cold War. The Cold War is over.

I don't believe this was heavily Photoshopped. But there's a good chance that the photographer set the camera's white balance to "Incandescent", which renders daylight (however much or little of it there is) very blue. Or, he altered the colors in Photoshop. ;-)
Lovely image.

My favorite customer service in Japan is at the post office. When I'm in Tokyo, I buy woodblock prints wherever I find them. Oftentimes, that means they won't be shipped back to the States by the seller. I walk to the nearest post office, and the young ladies behind the counter will cheerfully go out of their way to cut down a box into a sturdy flat pack that's perfect for my needs. Not just in Tokyo, either - I've found the same level of service in Matsumoto and other places. Just wonderful.
