Universal Hetalth Care is necessary, morally right, ethnically right and economically sensible

you sure you wanted to say "ethnically" and not "ethically"?

I hope that if she gets the post she works an agenda not on her own, but for the president and the country, if she is selfish enough to push her own agenda, then she has nothing to do with the cabinet and better stay at the senate

I think it is hardly for Japan to be a "drug heaven", but this article raises the alarm of the increase of drug use (like marijuana) in young people... but i think that the mayor problem is drinking, not smoking (how many drunks are in Japan?), although a smoker like myself recognizes the harm in smoking cigarrettes (I don't smoke weed, since i'm allergic) I consider drinking more harmful than tobacco, how many accidents for driving drunk?, and the cirrosis (I don't know the name in English) is not a pretty sight....

see where you're coming from, and appreciate the moderate tone, but the answer's no. Most of us probably realize that the continents within the same part of the hemisphere (between east/west, that is) are the Americas.

Sorry, I got lost. But I was pointing out that the "mistake" made by Palin can be made by the U.S. people whe they say "America" when they are really saying "The U.S. of America", to level up the speeches... Geographically, one cannot forgive a VP candidate saying that of course,it is a thing taught in 3-4th year or elementary school

Palin's father is a high school science teacher. And by most accounts I have read a very good one. Do you honestly believe that his daughter doesn't know where Africa is and that it is not a country but a continent?

After all these years that Americans called themselves Americans and they call the U.S. "America" (either both Republicans and Democrats) It is not surprising that someone thinks Africa as a country...

I'm American too you know?, The whole continent is called America, not only the U.S. So, go easy on Palin for that, most of you think of America as a country don't you?

In my local newspaper it said that Palin was considering running for presidency on 2012... I didn't like her not because she is a republican but because she made an embarrasment of women with her dumb comments during the campaign (I'm not saying that she was dumb or idiot, but her speeches and comments certainly were)Now with this article I don´t know is she for real or it is just plain naive.

I even knew a girl in college whose sister was literally killed by her father for doing such a thing and of course he took off back to Pakistan where he won't be charged for anything.

Yeah, but it is not only because the abortion thing, fathers kill their daughters if they leave their husbands...

Embroynic stem cell research should be allowed but let's not kid ourselves. There are huge ethical questions to consider and I'm not talking about abortion or Christian ethics. This research could also lead to some very disturbing and profound impacts in the future. Designer kids maybe if you can manipulate the genetic code in stem cells for starters?

As Sci-Fi this may sound it is incredibly possible. I realized that when hypoallergenic cats started to be sold over the internet...

As for the research itself, I'm not still clear what it is my position about that, I'm pro scientific development, but also I have a strong hold of "ethics" from my catholic upbringing. I'd rather they research on umbilical cords and placenta rather the embryos... but as i'm not a biologyst I cannot give further opinion

“This will also be America’s first wartime presidential transition in four decades,” he said. “We’re in a struggle against violent extremists determined to attack us, and they would like nothing more than to exploit this period of change to harm the American people.”

Talk about fear... always the old speech of Bush

Cleo, you did not answer the question. "He got more votes" doesn't say why he's qualified to be president. It just says those people want him to be president. Tell me, what makes Obama qualified? Being a community agonizer and spending three years in the Senate does not qualify a person to be the commander in chief of the most powerful military in the world.

AHHHH!!! but your question was What makes Obama THINK that he's qualified...

If he has the support of the houses, and other leaders of the world, of course he thinks that. As to your "real" question... What would make anyone a good president? Your ideas of a good president are biased towards the republican ideals, but the U.S. proved to have more simpathies for the democrats this time, so the U.S. people wanted a president that would listen to more liberal ideals than conservative ones.

What makes Obama and his supporters think he is qualified to be president of the United States? It's a simple question. The fact that his ideals were supported by more than 50% of the people of the U.S., and the fact that he also has the support of other countries from Europe and Latin America

Why is the Japanese media so obsessed with the racial angle of this election ?

You know I was watching the coverage at the gym today and probably the first 5 or 6 video images of people celebrating were filled exclusively with black people. I didn't know if it had just happened that way or if they were really playing up the race angle.

I noticed that too, especially black people who were crying..., It was annoying in a certain way that I cannot explain well

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said the incumbent’s invisibility is by design—because “the Republican Party wanted to make this election about John McCain.”

    A little late doesn't it?

John McCain lost precious time attacking Obama, spreading stupid thinks like "consorting with terrorists" and stuff like that, so he himself lost this election. Hurrah for Obama!, (I've always been towards the democrats) Cheers!

If I were Pro-Mccain I would use the "association" with Ayers differently. There are many points to use that would have overturned in favor of McCain. But I'm not, so I'm glad that McCain, Palin and their advisors screwed up!!!

    About polls

and gore and kerry ahead of President Bush in 2000 and 2004.

Gore was ahead, (i was there) if you counted the total votes without considering the electoral system, the majirity went to Gore

It is sad that drug use (and abuse) seems so common nowadays that we tend to trivialize it, lately, scandals of drugs and alcohol by lindsay lohan, amy winterhouse (i don't recall her name well) make us think that using drugs and alcohol is "normal". Well It is not, I feel sorry for the guy that is using drugs, but I consider a good policy to cancel the show, traditionalist and "conservative" and old-fashioned as it may seems, we have to punish the use of drugs, not encourage it. Even if it hurts his admirers. The guy should go into rehab.

But after 2004, I have very little faith in the intelligence and judgement of the American voter. Afterall Bush was elected twice and has nearly wiped the nation off the map with bad leadership. But then again the flyover states seem to like the whole down home charm of useless politicians.

    I couldn't agree more

Early education? No way! I think it's harmful rather than stimulating, because you force the child to focus on learning something (kanjis, letters, etc) IMHO, I think it's better to have the child play with different toys, explore anything, listen music and go to zoos, museums and entertainment parks, it is the neural conections that make the child intelligent, and you don't have to forget the development of social skills...
